Yes then it probably either would be Static due to him making static things and restoring old pieces or most likely Dynamic. Well one dot in Resonance generally is just helpful, so are two dots...three however...and there have a tendency to become more than one dot over time. Smile

Considering the (short-lasting) lucky charms he makes, and the working he created for the ranking, definitely not Static.

I've been thinking a bit of Colin's Paradigm...
Seems reasonable that he doesn't really see Forces and Matter as two separate Spheres, and the same with Correspondence and Time.
Basically, Forces and Matter flow together as basic applied science - chemistry and physics, with materials and energy interacting to create new materials or different forms of energy - while Spacetime is simply the four basic dimensions in one package; length, width, depth and time as a single package of understanding. He'll acknowledge the separations as the Traditional ranking system is, of course, but he doesn't see the distinctions himself.

Sound good?

I agree that seam to fit Colin and are a good way to look at it for him, I would think many see it the same way even if the ranking system split it into four Spheres.

Naturally, he'll have varying degrees of understanding of the aspects of those "double-spheres", but that's hardly an unreasonable thing.

Well in most fields there are varying degrees of understanding so there is nothing wrong with that. I like his double spheres for part of his Paradigm.

Come to think of it, he just might pick up Spirit, as well - only he won't easily be able to deal with spirits, as such, but mainly see it as an extension of Correspondence and Time; another set of dimensions through which to travel. As he puts it, he can't figure out the magic of living things, but Umbral travel, that he can wrap his mind around.

...And at some point, he just might build himself a blue box, because it has a certain amount of style. Wink

Hum...Spirit as a part of Correspondence or an extension of it, quite interesting, he could become a very good Umbral traveler. And yes a blue box Umbra ship would be more than cute. Razz

If memory serves, the Techocracy has that sphere as "Dimensional Science", don't they? So essentially, the navigational aspect of it, rather than the ethereal being aspect of it.

Yes they do, they have for the most part cut spirits out of it and only deal with the Umbra and various levels of reality, though some see spirits as alien consciousnesses or elements of their own minds communicating with them. Yes they take a scientific approach to it. So yes a Void Engineer would have Dimensional Science, the study of Spirit as the Traditions see it are strictly forbidden and punishable by death or well re education in Room 101.

Question, though - if Colin gets that first dot in Spirit, would it be acceptable if he can't unsee spirits?
As in, his eyes, once opened to see spirits in the area, can't close again? Not to suggest that he can see the spirit world in its entirety all the time, overlapping the real world, just see those awakened spirits that are moving in his field of view like normal people...
In other words, if a spirit is on the other side of the wall, he can't sense it, but if it's in the same room, he sees it as though it were manifested. If it's on the other side of a window, he sees it, if it's hiding in the closet, he can't see it unless he opens the closet... Smile

Sure whatever works with his Paradigm, I have no problem with in effect then Spirit 1 always being on, that works.

I think it might be less about his Paradigm in this case, than with his ongoing attitude of "I don't understand how those things work".
He's got no problems with their existence, after all, he just can't seem to wrap his head around how he's supposed to control them. Wink

Well 1 dot in Spirit will not let Colin control or even touch spirits, he can see them and as such can try to ask for their help, but he can not enforce his will on them in any way, but of course through further degree a mage will learn to control, touch or even kill or create spirits and whole realms.

True - I just don't think Colin's going to work out the control bit, even at higher ranks in Spirit, Paradigm or not. Smile
Spirits are *people*, after all, and while he might talk to them, he's going to have issues with controlling them directly. Wink

Well some never learn one aspect of a Sphere and indeed the things a mage can do at the various dots are far more of a guideline rather than something that is hard and fast. He might go the path of making deals then and getting to know spirits and have them do favors for his while he do favors for them.

Oh, yeah, descriptions of Colin's pad and schedule...

Apartment:
Colin's apartment is meticulously tidy, with a substantial amount of books packed into bookshelves on most of the walls - cheap paperback fantasy novels, a few hardcover novels of various genres, including some older science fiction, but primarily fantasy, as well as numerous notebooks and a particularly old and valuable-looking set of books with Hermetic-looking covers. There's a small living room space with a table, couch, and a couple of chairs, as well as a dining table large enough for a half-dozen people. In the corner, there's a fairly expensive-looking PC with a dual-monitor setup and a complicated flight stick. The kitchen is likewise neatly arranged, with a fancy tea cabinet with lots of little drawers full of loose tea, clearly labeled with the particular variations within. Also in the living room, there's a small bar cabinet that would usually hold a bottle of Beefeater London Dry Gin and occasionally some stout ales or a bottle of red wine. Aside from the living room, there's a bathroom and two bedrooms, Anna's and Colin's. What most might take particular note of in the living room is the absence of a TV. Colin obviously doesn't watch much TV, preferring to dig into news either through the newspaper or online. (Being fairly adept at the internet does help him keep a finger on pop culture, giving him an understanding that his age might not suggest likely.)

Daily routine:
As for his daily schedule, he normally gets out of bed at six, goes for a quick run a few laps around the block, then returns for a shower and a hearty breakfast before heading to work, usually spending most of the workday in the downstairs workshop while his cashier tends the shop floor and does most of the customer relations. Most days, he and his cashier go out for lunch, arranging things so that they don't both leave the shop unattended at the same time - there've been many a good sale to a desperate husband getting a last-second birthday or wedding anniversary present on his lunch break. After work, he usually picks up some groceries, and every now and then, visits a favorite pub for a pint or two, before heading home to do some magical research or study.
Then usually around seven thirty in the evening, he eats dinner, made from scratch, and occasionally indulges in dessert.
After that, it's often some light reading or settling down before the computer to surf the internet a bit or play a few battles in an online flight simulator.

A small TV and a game console for Anna's room is on The List, though. Perhaps for Christmas...

Anna's small room is tidy, there is her bed there, a book shelf filled with what she is studying at the moment and a desk. The book shelf also hold several board games, the young mage like games. Further back is her closet. On her bed side table is her macle collection, a lamp and a book. Anna likes to draw and she have drawings she is particularly fond of taped up on the walls. There is also equipment for giving her oxygen in the corner as at times she need it during the night, other than that the room look suprisingly like any room belonging to a twelve year old girl, her favorite color is blue so the furniture and curtains are blue, there are no carpet though so the room is easier to keep clean.
