[Junkyard]

Colin's Post:
He smiled thinly, "Not familiar with the classics, are we? Renfield was Dracula's enthralled henchman in the Bram Stoker novel... I think they're called most commonly called 'ghouls', though. Humans, enhanced by vampire blood; quite dangerous as they are often faster, stronger and more durable than normal humans, and largely indistinguishable from the general populace."

'Ah, the slaves. Best to simply put them down. Doing 'em a favour.'

Colin's Post:
He grinned, "Very well, I used the older description, which still prevails as a working model. I guess I just prefer the poetic language of it to the more sterile scientific terminology."

'Yeah, as long as you don't try to work anything out using it.'

Colin's Post:
He grinned, "The Boston Tea Party famously dumped a whole shipload of tea into the harbour. Not the proper way to make tea, and Americans still haven't figured out the proper serving instructions, it seems."

'That's only an issue if you actually want to drink the stuff.'

Colin's Post:
He nodded, "Actually, one thing - if you can spare a handgun? You've still got mine, and I haven't had the time to procure a backup yet."

'Finished it 'couple of days back. Simply not been able to return it yet.'

[Serge's Adventure]

Serge's Post:
"Ahhh, but you see, that's what the radio was made for. Listen to your favorite background noise sitcom while you try not to crash." Serge countered.

'But... that means I can't listen to Pat Robertson telling me why everything in the world is the Work of Satan and that I should lock all the doors and hide under the bed with the Good Book. Or a hundred. For the Rapture.' Nicole complained, seemingly upset by this.

Serge's Post:
"Onto the next round of 'Stupid or not stupid'." Serge announced flipping through his sketchbook, landing on a picture and showing it to Nicole. The picture depicted a man pulling a baseball cap over his head trying to conceal his face in a crowd. The problem was that due to his neon clothing and rather large muscles he was quite easy to pick out from the crowd. Although the people in the crowd didn't seem to be too bothered or even acknowledge the man in the slightest.

"The Marvel Baseball Cap! The baseball cap that, when worn, causes people to completely ignore your existence. Also can be called the loner cap."

'I would say that's stupid, 'cept the fact I've got a coat which does that.'

Serge's Post:
"Well that's just silly. Our powers being widespread is only good for us. If more people believed that they could do the extraordinary then we wouldn't have such a tough time doing it it in front of them"

A short silence, then a chuckle from Nicole. 'Ooh, goodie. So we'll go back to Hermetics flaming folk who don't grovel deep enough, Choristers calling "the wrath of the Lord" on unbelievers and public sacrifices to "spirits" while the rest of humanity returns to the dung ages. That's even worse than I was originally thinking... and was what kicked off the Union in the first place.' ending with a little sigh.

'Though you're missing the most important point. Folk already have the power to do amazing things. It's called science. A fairly intelligent mundie, with a bit of kit and training can move mountains, travel at hundreds of miles per hour, save people from death and so on. That is their magick. "Magic" which has saved my own hide repeatedly.' Nicole's ardency clear, as well as making it obvious she considered this a good thing.

[This does raise the question: how aware are 'mystic' mages of the 'technomancer Paradox breaks'?]

[Chicago]

"I wouldn't ask that of you, I will do it myself of course."

Crexia nodded approvingly at that.
"Very well Sodalis."

"Ah, I met many people last time I was here, I must have mixed that up. He still might be a good contact since I worked with him and he is Mercere, so he will know if my wishes would be welcomed."

Crexia nodded and she gave you Jerome's phone number.
"You can also try knocking at his door, his room is on the third floor, in the right corridor, tenth room to the left."
She explained.

He nodded, following along seeming well enough, at least until her spell wore off. He glanced around her room casually and then took a seat. "Thank you."

Crexia's office was large, before a domed window where a massive desk with a marble top, most of the walls where full of book shelves full of old tomes, though here and there where paintings or pictures on the walls, thick carpets was on the floor and in the other end of the room where a sitting group, it was to this that Crexia brought a fine crystal glass with brandy.
"Allow me to refresh my wards then and we can talk."
The archmage suggested as she handed you the glass.

[Junkyard]

'Looks like you've just volunteered to be the one who calls 'em out to us, then.' she replied, looking to Trina.

"Oh hurrah lucky me."
Trina said nervously.

'Look... you two can decide the little details-' looking at Bruce and Colin '-but gotta get my gear and the reinforcements. I'll bring along a few bottles of oil and shit back with me. If you can think of anything else needed, well you've got my cell. I can give at least a part-ride to the nearest outdoors store or whatever for the flare-guns as long as it ain't too far out of my way.' addressing the last sentence to the homeless trio.

Trina nodded.
"Thank for the ride."
She said.
"I will go for the flares and the others can get the inhabitants out of the fire sone."
She added.
"We will take care of the rest."
Bruce commented.
"Okey I am ready to go."
Trina said.

He nodded, then pondered, "You know, rose quartz is not particularly valuable, to my knowledge - but if you like, I can probably offer a better price than a pawn shop would. That is, if you trust a Mage with a sympathetic link to yourself..."

"Yeah I know but it is set in silver and look real nice, just need some cleaning up. What is a sympathetic link though?"
The blond girl said and she looked confused.
"I just see it as a warm dinner when I really need one."

He smiled thinly, "In this life? Only about as far as what would be most accurately described as the shadow of the city. Things look... different there, but recognizable. It's a strange dimension where you travel by association rather than fixed landmarks."

"Yeah shit that is so cool, what was that like?"
The girl asked her eyes wide.

He shrugged, "It does help if you can sense them - as I said, if you can't see them, they can often not see you, either... but a prayer could work. I'll ask it how, hm, supplicants would address it, so it could respond to them."

"Praying to a giant trash monster and a pine cone dog, well I guess that is no more odd than what some pray to. Have you ever talked with spirits?"
She said looking a bit confused still.

He nodded, "That settles that, then - we'll have to be on the lookout for potentially multiple cars."

Trina nodded at that.

He grinned, "The Boston Tea Party famously dumped a whole shipload of tea into the harbour. Not the proper way to make tea, and Americans still haven't figured out the proper serving instructions, it seems."

Trina just gave you a even look still not really getting the joke.
"I prefer coffee to tea anyway."

He nodded, "I'll be over in a few and work on the quick and dirty enchantments."

Bruce grunted at that as he headed over to his work area to gt things done.

He smiled thinly, "Ah, I hope I'm not interrupting afternoon tea? In any case, you know the junkyard Mr. King has his forge in? We're about to partake in some pesticide - the Chief will probably come by soon enough, and we'll probably need to isolate the area from police interference and the like... but more practically, do you think you could quickly scrounge up some frames for glasses and send them over? We need them to ensure everyone present has the necessary combination of night-vision and other useful features against a particular sort of parasite. Also, I'll be getting a few aerial photos of the place, too; I'll send them to your phone so you can print them out for the Chief, if that's alright?"

"No I had just put on some soup I felt a bit peckish."
Narim said.
"Hum...glasses, any kind of glasses? Yes sure I can do that, where would you like them delivered and offcourse I could print out the pictures and get them to the Chief. Is there anything else you need?"

(OOC: Yeah I think the teenagers just tagged along over to the forge.)

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]

He nodded, "Essentially so. That he later made a family only serves to strengthen his ties to the Traditions."

Bruce nodded at that.

He nodded, "Sounds very much like fiercely territorial animals. I'd wager Sir David Attenborough would have a field day. Or Steve Irwin, rest his soul..."

"Well considering what happened to Irving I have a feeling he would be impaled, and while impaled on a unicorn horn might be a interesting thing to put on a tombstone...it is still not good."
The Orphan said an frowned.

He frowned, "I thought as much..."

"Paradox fucks them up royally."
Bruce grunted.
"It is sad really."

He nodded to Bruce, "A respectable stance."

Again Bruce nodded at that.

"Yeah yeah. Same as everyone else." Serge said with a sigh, dropping the topic.

"Well it seams some of those who are here are game but for most our minds are rather private."
The large man commented.

"Anything can be made a learning experience. For examples, your deaths would be a good learning experience as to what happens to people who dare try and use force against me....or any child really. My mentor's not a fan of corporal punishment."

"Not even if we pay her in cake? Colin makes some really good cake, and some of them have funny names."
Bruce said he did not manage to stay serious any longer.

[Investigating Avatar Restoration, Cita's apartment]

He nodded, "She's a brave girl, but I won't fault her if offering such evidence at someone else's trial scares her too much... Still, if it's safe, it would spare her the same discomfort later."

"Indeed we can ask her if Dr Lee give his okey but not pressure her, it have to be her choice."
Cita agreed.

[Going to the Library]

"That...that's what I said." Serge said with an equally confused look on his face. "The connections between people. Sure I didn't say 'things' or 'magickal' as well, but I meant it. We're all connected in the grand scheme of things but forced into thinking that we're apart. By breaking through that illusion, either with strong emotions, relevant symbolism, or through personal attachments, you can connect yourself with anything in reality and work to influence it in your own way."

"I study that type of magick too you know."

Kyle looked at you for a moment then he nodded.
"Yeah you are right, and when it all boils down I guess Correspondence as in symbolic and between pepole and places work on the same concept."
The young mage agreed.
"Well thank you for finding the book for me."

"Neat-o" Serge said taking the book and glossing over it's contents, not really expecting to find anything he could understand.

The book had a rather Hermetic explination of things and went into details about Cabbalistic symbolism and aspects of spirits and other entities, it did have some cool drawings of prime bolts though, how they where supposed to look if it was done right.

(OOC: That depends, a technomancer would know, and some other magi would know as well, most know that technology are magick that became accepted into the Consensus but the details is another matter.)

[Adley and Nicole go to Beefbarn]

'If apologising, I would say those words. If attempting to do that empathy-sympathy thing, something like "that sucks" or "know how that is". If wanting to show I am listening, will ask a little question on a point raised before. I don't do filler crap.' the large woman replied.

"I'm not about to pry into things, especially when you've shown reluctance in discussing your past, so I won't ask questions about it unless it seems that you want to talk about it more. So, out of the other choices, I'll choose 'that sucks,' however that is not meant for all circumstances. What's a good way to say 'that sucks' politely? And please don't say 'that blows.'

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]

"True."

He nodded, "I know Master Telar can... reattach Avatar fragments to injured Avatars, but from what I have seen, it is neither painless nor easy. Well, the pain part can be ameliorated with some ephemeral sedatives, fortunately, but the point remains - and I do not know if anyone at all is able to track down all the severed pieces of a flayed Avatar, even if they were there when it happened. Perhaps if a Spirit Master somehow managed to collect the fragments as the ritual took place, but even that sounds too dangerous and unreliable."

"Hm...I would say possible but very challenging and some parts of it may not be easily recovered, no. However, it might be possible to use one part of a shard to draw the others, or the person to the other shards...using their arcane links, spiritual ars and correspondence ars," he said, as if thinking aloud as he spoke.

"Kinda hard to fix a roof that was never broken in the first place." Serge said grinning. "But Jane and I created this dragon so he's bound to be polite."

"Puff the very politely mannered dragon, lived by the chantry...and frolicked in the late fall mist in a land called Boston city..." he said in a singsong voice.

He grinned, "I may trust my luck far, but there are limits..."

He smiled.

He smiled wryly, "You know, most people would at least pause at the mention of him being a demolitions specialist..."

He shrugged. "Then we'll have something interesting to talk about while he does his new profession."

He nodded, "I'll see what I can hammer out... No rush, I presume?"

"Well...it's for Beatrice, perhaps for Halloween or is that too soon"

[Chicago]

Crexia nodded and she gave you Jerome's phone number.
"You can also try knocking at his door, his room is on the third floor, in the right corridor, tenth room to the left."
She explained.

"Thank you, ma'am."

"Thank you, Lady Crexia," he said, taking the glass. He looked at some of the pictures on the walls and the books, then sipped the brandy. He pulled his notes that he'd taken on the book together and then sat there trying to calm down from the whirlwind of events.

"Puff the very politely mannered dragon, lived by the chantry...and frolicked in the late fall mist in a land called Boston city..." he said in a singsong voice.

Bruce gave a chuckle at that.
"Yeah we need a very polite, well mannered dragon."
The Artificer said sounding amused.

[Chicago]

"Thank you, ma'am."

Crexia nodded at that.

"Thank you, Lady Crexia," he said, taking the glass. He looked at some of the pictures on the walls and the books, then sipped the brandy. He pulled his notes that he'd taken on the book together and then sat there trying to calm down from the whirlwind of events.

The pictures was mostly of pepole, in clothes from different area, those who Crexia had loved though the ages, her apprentices, Cabalmates and friends. On the table stood a picture of a pretty young woman with clond hair flying in the wind as she posed for the camera next to an old boat. The picture was in a silver frame and clearly had a place of honor in the office.

Crexia stood and she muttered in Latin as her hands went through the sigils of Rego and Vim. You could feel the Ward setting into place and then the archmage came over to you and sat down in one of the other chair.
"Then we can talk Mr Roth Hicks."
She said.
"How can I help you."

However, it might be possible to use one part of a shard to draw the others, or the person to the other shards...using their arcane links, spiritual ars and correspondence ars," he said, as if thinking aloud as he spoke.
Colin pondered, "That's... hm, you should suggest that to Master Telar; she might have a few insights into the viability of that approach - even if it sounds a touch Frankensteinian."

Anja wrote:"Well considering what happened to Irving I have a feeling he would be impaled, and while impaled on a unicorn horn might be a interesting thing to put on a tombstone...it is still not good."
The Orphan said an frowned.
He shook his head, "Remember, Irwin died out of his element - he could not move properly in water, and that's why he died like that; on land, I think he'd be able to observe and get sufficiently clear of an angry unicorn; he might even have been able to calm it down..."

Jeremy wrote:"I prefer bait but your the boss." the young damsel said with a smirk.
He grinned, "But with a bowl of trapped gummies, would that not be baitception?"

Anja wrote:"Well it seams some of those who are here are game but for most our minds are rather private."
The large man commented.
He nodded, "I've had... people rummage in my mind before, to help by invitation. So long as there is trust to not go snooping around in there, I could accept a light poke to give me a thought. But if someone tried to intrude on memories, they just might find they've bitten over more than they can chew."

Jeremy wrote:"Kinda hard to fix a roof that was never broken in the first place." Serge said grinning. "But Jane and I created this dragon so he's bound to be polite."

The Artificer said sounding amused.
He grinned, "Sounds good to me - perhaps you should go on stage, Adley; I imagine your vocal performances would wow the audiences, especially without a microphone."

Jeremy wrote:"Strangely enough it did not pop-up. Girls were to busy talking with the animals." Serge said with a smile. "It did pop-up while we were playing pictionary."
He scratched his scars, "So that's why I felt an odd itch during the battle... Whoever came up with my name for a game of Pictionary, anyway?"

Jeremy wrote:"Anything can be made a learning experience. For examples, your deaths would be a good learning experience as to what happens to people who dare try and use force against me....or any child really. My mentor's not a fan of corporal punishment."

He grinned, "Well, then, we have a plan - I provide the cake, and Bruce provides the object lesson for the rest of us."

S7trif3 wrote:He shrugged. "Then we'll have something interesting to talk about while he does his new profession."
He nodded, "Just keep in mind he's a Sleeper, to the best of my knowledge - might be unwise to, ah, 'talk shop' with him, as such."

S7trif3 wrote:"Well...it's for Beatrice, perhaps for Halloween or is that too soon"
He nodded, "Christmas or Halloween makes little difference, especially for mathematicians. Oct 31 equals Dec 25, after all... but so long as I can get started after this week, there's plenty of time to have it ready."

[Abandoned Junkyard]
Anja wrote:"Yeah I know but it is set in silver and look real nice, just need some cleaning up. What is a sympathetic link though?"

In any case, silver is my game, as they say, so if you swing by in a crisis, I will offer you a good, honest price for the necklace."

Anja wrote:"Yeah shit that is so cool, what was that like?"
The girl asked her eyes wide.
He thought back, "Police stations look like medieval fortresses, or perhaps like some sci-fi battle station, depending on the district... huge chain supermarkets might look like a cornucopia out of myth, overflowing with food and drink... it's all associations; the shadow of a place is where you'll see all the details and feelings about the place that can't be expressed in mundane concrete and brickwork..."

Anja wrote:"Praying to a giant trash monster and a pine cone dog, well I guess that is no more odd than what some pray to. Have you ever talked with spirits?"
She said looking a bit confused still.
He nodded, "A few, yes - some are quite pleasant to speak with, even if you might have difficulty understanding what they're telling you. The difficult thing is that they usually can't manifest unless you can give them a suitable offering. For a Mage, a bit of Quintessence - the magical building blocks of everything - is an easy go-to option, but for anyone else, well... that's why the gods of old often had very specific offerings they demanded from their followers."

Nicole wrote:'Ah, the slaves. Best to simply put them down. Doing 'em a favour.'
He nodded, "They don't burn as easily, though, and don't have the same fear of fire."

Nicole wrote:'Yeah, as long as you don't try to work anything out using it.'
He grinned, "So long as it works, why complain about the terminology?"

Nicole wrote:'That's only an issue if you actually want to drink the stuff.'
Anja wrote:Trina just gave you a even look still not really getting the joke.
"I prefer coffee to tea anyway."
He looked exasperated for a moment, "Drinking tea is rather the point of it. I am surrounded by savages..."
Then he grinned, "Well, to each their own - a good cup of coffee can be quite a pleasant pick-me-up, too."

Anja wrote:Trina nodded at that.

Anja wrote:"No I had just put on some soup I felt a bit peckish."

Post by Anja Rebekka Schultze on Fri Oct 12, 2018 2:18 pm

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]

He shook his head, "Remember, Irwin died out of his element - he could not move properly in water, and that's why he died like that; on land, I think he'd be able to observe and get sufficiently clear of an angry unicorn; he might even have been able to calm it down..."

"Perhaps so, I would pay good money to see that though."
Bruce said with a slight grin.

He nodded, "I've had... people rummage in my mind before, to help by invitation. So long as there is trust to not go snooping around in there, I could accept a light poke to give me a thought. But if someone tried to intrude on memories, they just might find they've bitten over more than they can chew."

"Well I do not have many traumatic memories to trap snoopers with unless my mom talking with my first girl I had a crush on in third grade counts."
The Artificer said wryly.
"Still I would like to keep people out of my mind if I can."

He grinned, "Sounds good to me - perhaps you should go on stage, Adley; I imagine your vocal performances would wow the audiences, especially without a microphone."

"Now there is another thing I would pay good money to see."
Bruce said wryly.

He grinned, "Well, then, we have a plan - I provide the cake, and Bruce provides the object lesson for the rest of us."

"Indeed so Colin we are a Cabal we have to cooperate after all."
Bruce joked.

[Abandoned Junkyard]

He smiled and handed her a business card, "A sympathetic link is something that can be used to make targeting you with magic easier - strong links would be things like blood samples or hair, or personal items you've treasured and loved for a long time, like a favourite doll from your childhood, and weaker links would be something you've worn on occasion, or an envelope with your name and address on it. In any case, silver is my game, as they say, so if you swing by in a crisis, I will offer you a good, honest price for the necklace."

The girl took the card and looked at it.
"Someone demanding favors gave the necklace to me, perhaps he felt bad, I kept it just to sell it."
She said.
"I understand what you mean now but it should be fine, getting to your store though might be hard, this is a bus ride away and bus rides cost money I usually don't have but you can look at it here if you wish."
She said as she pulled a necklace out of her pocked, it was a carved rose quarts cabochon in the form of several roses, it was set in an ornate silver setting and placed on a long chain, the necklace might be from the 1920's. The blond gil handed you the necklace.
"Do you think I could get a hot meal or two for this?"

"Wow that is so cool. I would love to see that."
The young girl exclaimed.

"What do you mean manifesting? Like in everyone can see them?"
The blond girl asked.
"But yeah praying to them will work? Can you then ask them to do things for you?"

He looked exasperated for a moment, "Drinking tea is rather the point of it. I am surrounded by savages..."
Then he grinned, "Well, to each their own - a good cup of coffee can be quite a pleasant pick-me-up, too."

"Most of the time I can not really bother with what I drink, if I can get something warm to drink or a full belly, I do not have the luxury of identifying with a drink."
Trina commented darkly.

He smiled, "I'll make sure there's a bit of gear for you to get a better view in the dark."

"Oh that makes me feel so much better."
Trina said and rolled her eyes.

He nodded, "Good, then. Rendezvous here in... an hour fifty or thereabouts? That should be just before sunset?"

Trina nodded at that.
"Lead the way to your car."
The young girl you had showed spirits to said.

He nodded, "The lenses themselves are unimportant - I just need the frames. You can track my location through my phone when you have them; just send me a text first so I can make sure to be out of sight of Sleepers. Beyond that, no, I think keeping Sleepers away from the area after things start going down will be sufficient, though I'll defer to the Chief on that account."

"I will make sure the police are off your back and I will see if I can find your glasses and send you a message."
The Virtual Adept said.
"An yes if you are going to get yourself into trouble you should probably consult with Jeffry about this as well."
He advices.

Colin's Post:
He grinned, "So long as it works, why complain about the terminology?"

'You think I'm stupid or something? Know your game, me.' eyes narrowing a little as the large woman looked at Colin.

Colin's Post:
He nodded, "Good, then. Rendezvous here in... an hour fifty or thereabouts? That should be just before sunset?"

'Will get back as soon as. Make sure any folk coming back here with me are ready and waiting.'

Anja's Post:
Trina nodded.
"Thank for the ride."
She said.
"I will go for the flares and the others can get the inhabitants out of the fire sone."
She added.
"We will take care of the rest."
Bruce commented.
"Okey I am ready to go."
Trina said.

A nod to this, a moment's pause to see if anyone had anything to add, and then Nicole headed back towards her car.

[RI Roadtrip]

Adley's Post:
"I'm not about to pry into things, especially when you've shown reluctance in discussing your past, so I won't ask questions about it unless it seems that you want to talk about it more. So, out of the other choices, I'll choose 'that sucks,' however that is not meant for all circumstances. What's a good way to say 'that sucks' politely? And please don't say 'that blows.'

'"That's bad, terrible thing"... go and find a dictionary or something.' Nicole replied, giving a little shrug.

[I always thought "science is just accepted 'magick'" was one of those things pretty high on the Arete ranking; that at lower levels the scientist [esp Technocrats] believed there was a concrete division between the two [which is why technomancers find it much more difficult to let go of Instruments]. However, this may be an issue of differing versions of MtA; 2nd is more 'sciency magick' while 3rd/4th firms up the 'science not magick!' definition. At least that's how I read it. But... doesn't that mean that many 'mystical' mages would find it very difficult to understand the difference between say a techno-shaman and a technomancer?]

[FYI message; sent PM, Great One. But no hurry on it.]

There was no one who said anything, you and Karin got to the car.
"We do not have allot of time."
The girl said as she glanced at the sky nervously and got in.

(OOC: It have nothing to do with Arete it is a lore issue, do you know the history of magick or not It is a edition question for in some editions there are more widesprea lore understanding than in others. If you play 3 ed, you have the PC Cabal and theymight know two more mages, then they will not know this but when you have a huge interconected Mage society then yes most will know this. The Technocrazy do not know it as often as it is a secret only revealed to upper level opperatives and they do not think it is magick at all but that sleeper technology came for them but which are not accepted. A Traditionalist Technomancer would know. And most do not know the differences between various Paradigms especially since techically speaking a Techno shaman is a form of Technomancer.)

[Cabal Meeting]

Anja wrote:He grinned, "But with a bowl of trapped gummies, would that not be baitception?"

Serge narrowed his eyes towards Colin and said, "Oh my gosh. We need to go deeper."

Anja wrote:"Not even if we pay her in cake? Colin makes some really good cake, and some of them have funny names."
Bruce said he did not manage to stay serious any longer.
Colin wrote:He grinned, "Well, then, we have a plan - I provide the cake, and Bruce provides the object lesson for the rest of us."

"Really? What's its name? How can a cake have a funny name?" Serge asked curiously, his interests turning towards the cake.

Anja wrote:"Puff the very politely mannered dragon, lived by the chantry...and frolicked in the late fall mist in a land called Boston city..." he said in a singsong voice.

"We named the dragon 'draconis' but Puff is such a good name as well." Serge said, enjoying Adley's light-hearted demeanor.

Anja wrote:He grinned, "Sounds good to me - perhaps you should go on stage, Adley; I imagine your vocal performances would wow the audiences, especially without a microphone."

"Yes! Come on Adley. Sing Bohemian Rhapsody! Let that fiery passion light up your voice and sing like the Disney Princess I may or may not have drawn you as!" Serge said urging the flambeau to embrace his inner singer.

Colin wrote:He scratched his scars, "So that's why I felt an odd itch during the battle... Whoever came up with my name for a game of Pictionary, anyway?"

"I'm not sure. One of the girls put your name into the pile but the problem was that some of the players didn't know who you were so it was a rather poor choice. It was likely either Rosa or Jane, since they knew you the best." Serge said, his face showing no signs of change or deception.

[Going to the Library]

Anja wrote:Kyle looked at you for a moment then he nodded.
"Yeah you are right, and when it all boils down I guess Correspondence as in symbolic and between pepole and places work on the same concept."
The young mage agreed.
"Well thank you for finding the book for me."

"No problem. Who knows, when we both get good enough, we can have a teleport battle through the chantry." Serge said with a smile.

Anja wrote:The book had a rather Hermetic explination of things and went into details about Cabbalistic symbolism and aspects of spirits and other entities, it did have some cool drawings of prime bolts though, how they where supposed to look if it was done right.

"Wouldn't mind firing some of those out of my eyes." Serge said with a chuckle, memorizing the picture for future use and then showing Kyle the picture of the Prime bolts.

"Here, you can have a look at one of my books." he said handing Kyle one of the books on mental magick.

[Serge's Adventure]

Nicole wrote:'But... that means I can't listen to Pat Robertson telling me why everything in the world is the Work of Satan and that I should lock all the doors and hide under the bed with the Good Book. Or a hundred. For the Rapture.' Nicole complained, seemingly upset by this.

"Didn't expect you to be such a big televangelist fan." Serge said sarcastically. "So do you just have normal hate for televangelists or you got some personal beef with them or what?"

Nicole wrote:'I would say that's stupid, 'cept the fact I've got a coat which does that.'

"Is it enchanted or just a really plain coat? Because if it's the former than you gotta show it to me." Serge said, his interest piqued.

Nicole wrote:A short silence, then a chuckle from Nicole.

"First you complain about the state of the world now. Then you complain about the state of the world back then. The world's always got it's problems throughout history. It's demon cults and Nazi's. It's corrupt politicians and tyrant kings. Is what happened in the past any reason we should just completely cut off one aspect of the world in the present?" Serge asked, curious as to the Etherites response.

Nicole wrote:'Though you're missing the most important point.

"I'm not gonna argue against that...mostly cause it's true...sort of." Serge said with a shrug. "But why can't we have both? Why has science got to be the only 'magick' available to everyone? If people believed in both science and magick, or just considered the impossible to be possible, we could do so much more. Both science and magick could be improved and save even more asses together."

"Really? What's its name? How can a cake have a funny name?" Serge asked curiously, his interests turning towards the cake.

"Well a few months ago Colin invited the Cabal for dinner and for dessert we had his spotted dick."
Bruce said and grinned.
"It was most delicious."
He added and he grinned wider.

[Going to the Library]

"No problem. Who knows, when we both get good enough, we can have a teleport battle through the chantry." Serge said with a smile.

"That sounds rather, no scratch that extremely dangerous so pass. My first spell was a teleportation though, back when I first Awakened, but I have not been able to do that after the first time though."
Kyle commented.

"Wouldn't mind firing some of those out of my eyes." Serge said with a chuckle, memorizing the picture for future use and then showing Kyle the picture of the Prime bolts.

"Here, you can have a look at one of my books." he said handing Kyle one of the books on mental magick.

"Why out of the eyes? Would it not be easier to make the primal flame in your hands?"
Kyle asked as he accepted the book you where handing him and he read the title and then flipped it open.
"You want to learn more mental magick?"

Serge chuckled immaturely at the vulgur joke. "Well that certainly puts a new spin on the whole 'bribing her with cake' now doesn't it. I can see why it would be irresistible."

[Going to the Library]

Anja wrote:"That sounds rather, no scratch that extremely dangerous so pass. My first spell was a teleportation though, back when I first Awakened, but I have not been able to do that after the first time though."
Kyle commented.

"First thing I did was enter a dream. Actually I got trapped in a dream." Serge replied.

"Anyways if teleporting was your first spell your probably destined to be able to do it again. And when you do you can fulfill your life long dream of dissapearing like batman."

Anja wrote:"Why out of the eyes? Would it not be easier to make the primal flame in your hands?"
Kyle asked as he accepted the book you where handing him and he read the title and then flipped it open.
"

"Everyone does it from there hands. Doing it from eyes would so much cooler." Serge said pointing at his eyeballs for emphasis. "Both are vulgur as fuck so you might as well do it the cool way."

Anja wrote:"You want to learn more mental magick?

"Yeah. Wanna see if I can get to the next level. It would make me an Adept which sounds so much cooler than a Disciple. But I think that's a little lower on the magick christmas list." he replied.

"Wanna first learn how to control the flow of karma and fate, Entropy magick basically. Then maybe Time magick so that Ryan's glare stops appearing in my dreams, and then life magick? Maybe Prime? Although I do want to try and improve enforcing my will onto the real world, so maybe Matter. I could go Full Metal Alchemist after studying that type of stuff....

After listing his rather extensive wish list, Serge just chuckled and said, "Basically I'm indecisive and want to learn everything. How about you? Anything your keen on learning?"

Serge chuckled immaturely at the vulgur joke. "Well that certainly puts a new spin on the whole 'bribing her with cake' now doesn't it. I can see why it would be irresistible."

"See I might get to chase you around the Chantry with a whip still."
Bruce said and he chuckled.

[Going to the Library]

"First thing I did was enter a dream. Actually I got trapped in a dream." Serge replied.

"Anyways if teleporting was your first spell your probably destined to be able to do it again. And when you do you can fulfill your life long dream of dissapearing like batman."

"Yeah probably, it have been fire magick I have focused on but yes I will probably be able to learn teleportation and such as well."
Kyle said then he sigh.
"If I get to keep my magick that is."
He commented darkly.
"Ehm...yeah well anyway you got trapped in a dream?"
He asked and he raised an eyebrow.

"Everyone does it from there hands. Doing it from eyes would so much cooler." Serge said pointing at his eyeballs for emphasis. "Both are vulgur as fuck so you might as well do it the cool way."

"Well whatever dos it for you go for it."
Kyle said and he grinned at it.

"Yeah. Wanna see if I can get to the next level. It would make me an Adept which sounds so much cooler than a Disciple. But I think that's a little lower on the magick christmas list." he replied.

"That is quite a wish list."
Kyle said and he smiled a little.
"Yeah I would love to learn all kinds of magick as well, perhaps starting with more fire magick, learning some more about the relation between spaces, some about controlling luck and fate."
The young mage said.
"And yeah Adepts are higher ranked than Deciples, so it would mean you would be more powerful."
The boy said.
"But yeah I am focusing on fire magick and learning hand gestures for now."

[Adley and Nicole go to Beefbarn]

'"That's bad, terrible thing"... go and find a dictionary or something.' Nicole replied, giving a little shrug.

"You were the one who wanted to educate me about connotations," he said, with a shrug. "Anyway, when's the last time you saw the Bruins?"

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]

Colin pondered, "That's... hm, you should suggest that to Master Telar; she might have a few insights into the viability of that approach - even if it sounds a touch Frankensteinian."

"I'm not meaning to draw many different avatar pieces into one whole but rather the parts that once were together before they were broken. But it may not be possible to get them all, and I am sure there would be numerous complications. I'll ask her, then."

"Really? What's its name? How can a cake have a funny name?" Serge asked curiously, his interests turning towards the cake.

"Oh, no..."

"Well a few months ago Colin invited the Cabal for dinner and for dessert we had his spotted dick."
Bruce said and grinned.
"It was most delicious."
He added and he grinned wider.

"And there it is," he said, facepalming. "I would say I saw that coming but that would sound incredibly rude, given the vulgar context."

"Not even going to comment...let's leave the whips and chains for another day, hrm?"

Bruce gave a chuckle at that.
"Yeah we need a very polite, well mannered dragon."
The Artificer said sounding amused.
He grinned, "Sounds good to me - perhaps you should go on stage, Adley; I imagine your vocal performances would wow the audiences, especially without a microphone."
"Now there is another thing I would pay good money to see."
Bruce said wryly.
"We named the dragon 'draconis' but Puff is such a good name as well." Serge said, enjoying Adley's light-hearted demeanor.

"Ah, no thank you I prefer my audiences in school where they do not usually throw tomatoes or if they do I can kick them out of class."

"Yes! Come on Adley. Sing Bohemian Rhapsody! Let that fiery passion light up your voice and sing like the Disney Princess I may or may not have drawn you as!" Serge said urging the flambeau to embrace his inner singer.

"Wait, what did you say?" he said, looking at Serge. He blinked at him, then narrowed his eyes. "No one can sing that as well as Freddy Mercury..."

He nodded, "Just keep in mind he's a Sleeper, to the best of my knowledge - might be unwise to, ah, 'talk shop' with him, as such."
[Chicago]

"Ah, well then I will try to be discrete."

He nodded, "Christmas or Halloween makes little difference, especially for mathematicians. Oct 31 equals Dec 25, after all... but so long as I can get started after this week, there's plenty of time to have it ready."

"I don't follow that logic, but thank you. Yes, after this week is certainly fine."

You could feel the Ward setting into place and then the archmage came over to you and sat down in one of the other chair.
"Then we can talk Mr Roth Hicks."
She said.
"How can I help you."

He offered her the notes he had written. There were page annotations, quotes on the relevant parts and all speculations as he had tried to make sense of the dense tome. "I know that you wrote this book. Probably, I am not quite ready to understand it, but I have a these questions remaining. Or perhaps you would be willing to discuss some of what you had experienced. I know I have other important tasks to attend to as well but there is something in that book that speaks to me. It's just that I don't understand what it is trying to tell me yet."

Anja's Post:
There was no one who said anything, you and Karin got to the car.
"We do not have allot of time."
The girl said as she glanced at the sky nervously and got in.

'Let's hope the targets are running late then.' Nicole quipped, unlocking the sedan and pulling off her tool-belt. 'Just put that stuff on the seat behind you.' grabbing what appeared to be a gym bag from the passenger seat and lobbing it to the rear of the car.

['Karin' is the other girl, right? She'd not been named until this point, I think]

[Serge's Adventure]

Serge's Post:
"Didn't expect you to be such a big televangelist fan." Serge said sarcastically. "So do you just have normal hate for televangelists or you got some personal beef with them or what?"

'Putting aside the fact most are sexist hypocrites, and the fact they pretty much see everything as "sinful"...' Nicole retorted, her annoyance for this group on the par with hipsters.

'Religious charities utterly suck. Often, what they offer is no fucking help at all - "oh, we'll pray", no, what the guy needs is medicine, not prayer - or actually damaging, like the "abstinence only" sex ed shit. The few times when they do something actually helpful they are so condescending and self-righteous that it's awful for the one who needs the shit. "Welcome to the Christian Shelter - please leave all remaining shreds of self-respect at the door".' Though Serge had guessed right; it did sound personal.

Serge's Post:
"Is it enchanted or just a really plain coat? Because if it's the former than you gotta show it to me." Serge said, his interest piqued.

'I'll dig it out when we get back.'

Serge's Post:
"First you complain about the state of the world now. Then you complain about the state of the world back then. The world's always got it's problems throughout history. It's demon cults and Nazi's. It's corrupt politicians and tyrant kings. Is what happened in the past any reason we should just completely cut off one aspect of the world in the present?" If people believed in both science and magick, or just considered the impossible to be possible, we could do so much more. Both science and magick could be improved and save even more asses together."

'Magick is power. Folks who have power normally end up ruling over folk who don't have it. Them folk then use the power to make sure they remain in power forever. We saw this with kings and priests, we have that now with capitalists. Allowing mages to come out into the open will lead to them to trying to take over the mundie world. Then there will be wars. Think... how bad the Fallen last month could have been if it had been fought in the open, with both sides with tanks, planes and waves of infantry as well as their magick?'

[RI Roadtrip]

Adley's Post:
"You were the one who wanted to educate me about connotations," he said, with a shrug. "Anyway, when's the last time you saw the Bruins?"

'There's many other options. Just pointing out that.' she replied. On his question, the large woman frowned for a moment. 'Not sure... remember it was just after Cianci got indited.'

OOC: I [respectfully!] disagree with you on this one. Mainly 'cos if all non-Union technomancers "knew" that "science is just accepted magick" it would quite literally break their Paradigms even before they got anywhere. I bundled this into Arete and not Lores, Occult etc as the former represents true *understanding* of the nature of magick - it's this which allows mages to perform greater and greater feats, and at higher levels to realise that the supposedly-needed Instruments are not needed, that it's the mage's power and will *alone* which performed said Effects [which would explain why technomancers can't ditch Instruments until much higher and Technocrats not at all - for the former find it hard to accept 'the Science came from you!' [and the 'how can it be Science then?' question afterwards] while the Union's side-stepped said question by denying it's existence entirely.

From my reading of it, the "techno-mage" [let's say a Hermetic of Thig] is *not* a technomancer for they do not deny that they're working magick. The tech they're using are merely tools which to do magick with. The technomancer, on the other hand believes that it's the tools doing Science. On the surface, they look very similar - but underneath, quite different in mentality. [Call a Dreamspeaker Spirit-Smith who works with  hand-built Awakened electronics a 'technomancer' at your peril!]

But as ever, that's how I read it.

Bruce chuckled at that.

"Not even going to comment...let's leave the whips and chains for another day, hrm?"

"Spoilsport, but very well."
The Orphan said sounding amused.

[Chicago]

He offered her the notes he had written. There were page annotations, quotes on the relevant parts and all speculations as he had tried to make sense of the dense tome. "I know that you wrote this book. Probably, I am not quite ready to understand it, but I have a these questions remaining. Or perhaps you would be willing to discuss some of what you had experienced. I know I have other important tasks to attend to as well but there is something in that book that speaks to me. It's just that I don't understand what it is trying to tell me yet."

"It is a book about the Umbra, it's nature, layers and creation as well as theories on the development of natural realms and the Well of Souls so there are quite a few topics to get into."
The Archmage said then she smiled a little.
"I can spare some time...hum...can I ask how you came over my book?"
She asked as she read over your notes.
"It seams you might be interested in the symbolic nature of much of the Umbra., and perhaps theories about the Well of Souls..."

[Junkyard]

'Let's hope the targets are running late then.' Nicole quipped, unlocking the sedan and pulling off her tool-belt. 'Just put that stuff on the seat behind you.' grabbing what appeared to be a gym bag from the passenger seat and lobbing it to the rear of the car.

The girl put the stuff in the seat where directed and got in.
"Yeah let us hope so."
She commented nervously.

(OOC: Yes she is the blond girl, she was named once.)
(OOC 2: Technocrats do not think of it as magick but they do know that Enlightened science is not the same as regular science and that what Englitened science create will eventually be accepted and become regularly accepted science. Traditionalist Technomancer know it is magick they just see it as science they are not stupid they know that what they do with their laser gun are the same as the Hermetic do with a hand gestures they just think the others do it in a wrong way.

Arete have nothing to do with understanding magick, it have to do with understanding reality and themselves, it is enlightenment plain and simple, understanding Paradigms of other mages have nothing to do with understanding reality, it is Lore and Occult. Remember Mage is based on real life occultism and our beliefs, where greater understanding and enlightenment will lead you to no longer need the treater and tools and crutches but knowing that there are others who practice differently than you are not part of that. Yes Technomanvers find it harder to let go of their tools as their whoel pat is so tied up with them, but that do nto mean they do not understand that what they do is not the same as sleeper scientists do.

Technomancer is simply a catch all term for any mage using mudern technology as part of their magick, yes a House Thig member are a Technomancer one do not need to deny that one is working magick to be a technomancer, if you read the Tradition splats for example 1 edition and Revised Sons of Ether Tradition book it is made very clear they know they practice magick they just do it in a scientific way using fringe science for their Paradigms. It is very rare for a Traditionalist Technoancer to not know that what they do is the same as what other Traditionalists know they might call it Science just like a Chorister will call it Singing, but they know they are doing the same thing, that is pretty clear from the fluff. A Dreamspeaker Techno Shaman is a Technomancer, whatever or not he will like the term that vary as it is a laden word since it is used about the Union and ex Union groups but it do not change the fact, he is working techno magick.

There is one section I think it is in the Sons of Ether book but it might be in one of the others where a Etherite is complaining about his experiences joining into a Verbena celebration, it is clear he think that the way they practice is wrong, dangerous and messy but he still know they are doing the same thing as him in another Paradigem. No Technomancer think that a sleeper could just pick up their tools and work them that they are just doing regular science.)

Anja's Post:

She commented nervously.

Nicole clambered in to the car herself, switching on the engine, killing the stereo and pulling off once the girl had made herself comfortable.

'Okay. Any ideas on nearest place to get flares?'

OOC: I think I see the fundamental issue here...

With the definition of 'technomancer', I follow the 4th definition [Core, p39]:

Mystics, who openly embrace what they’re doing as magick or faith.
Technomancers, who define what they’re doing in terms of arcane or advanced science.

If Traditionalist Technomancers 'know it is magick'... erm, please help, as I'm caught between two statements which cancel each other out!

Oddly enough, after re-reading the Etherite book fluff you mentioned, I got a different message. Much of it was a "that makes no sense" - which was to be expected, as if they understood the 'target's' paradigm through their own lens they'd be able to pull it off themselves. Which dove-tails perfectly to the Etherite Merit 'Scientific Mystic' in Revised - where somehow, the technomancer has managed to shoehorn a 'mystical' aspect into their own paradigm.

Still hold Arete has a part to play in understanding magick; not other's paradigms, but their own - via their increased understanding of reality and themselves. That allows refinement of their beliefs, the questioning of previous assumptions - which leads to greater abilities [as represented as greater feats of magick].

[Cabal Meeting]

Anja wrote:"See I might get to chase you around the Chantry with a whip still."
Bruce said and he chuckled.

"Well, hope you have fun while you do it." Serge said with a smirk.

Adley wrote:"Wait, what did you say?" he said, looking at Serge. He blinked at him, then narrowed his eyes. "No one can sing that as well as Freddy Mercury..."

"Nothing!" Serge said quickly, re-evaluating why he had said that in the first place. He figured that Beatrice might've had shown him the picture.

"You don't need to sing it as well....just better! Or worse. Honestly I just wanna see that performance. With the pyrotechnics in the background, shooting flames into the air!"

[Going to the Library]

Anja wrote:"Yeah probably, it have been fire magick I have focused on but yes I will probably be able to learn teleportation and such as well."
Kyle said then he sigh.
"If I get to keep my magick that is."
He commented darkly.
"Ehm...yeah well anyway you got trapped in a dream?"
He asked and he raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah. Worked to hard on a project and passed out. And when I mean worked too hard, I really do mean hard. Woke up in a forest and just wondered around for a bit. Slowly I realized that the forest was created by my own mind as was the entire world I woke up in." Serge explained.

"Sadly, I still had some dark shit within my mind that decided to attack me while I was exploring. Thankfully my mentor pulled me out in the last second. She always did have good dramatic timing." he said thinking about that moment fondly.

Anja wrote:"That is quite a wish list."

"Planning on doing some cool pyromancy are ya." Serge teased pulling open the fate manipulation book and taking a quick skim while continuing to talk with Kyle. "With those combination of skills, you might be able to recreate the floo network from Harry Potter. You know, the whole 'travelling by fireplaces' thing they do. Wouldn't be surprised if some mage already copied that. Or if J.K copied it from a mage..."

[Serge's Adventure]

Nicole wrote:'Putting aside the fact most are sexist hypocrites, and the fact they pretty much see everything as "sinful"...' Nicole retorted, her annoyance for this group on the par with hipsters.

"So pretty standard reddit hate. Lot's of people seem to share those sentiments." Serge replied although it was clear he didn't mean that in a condescending way. "Although you seem..rather heated when talking about them. But that's probably a topic for another day. If we keep talking about the stuff you hate it'll just ruin your day."

Nicole wrote:'I'll dig it out when we get back.'

"Why does everyone have cooler shit than I do..." Serge said with a sigh sauntering along the sidewalk.

Nicole wrote:'Magick is power.

"There'll be wars and fights regardless of what happens. And we'll always find a way to make them more terrible regardless of which side of the coin is in power. Chlorine gas and Machine Guns vs Flesh-eating Curses and Zombie Armies. Let's flip it around shall we. We could also used magick to protect people you know? Protect people from diseases that don't need millions of dollars in research and the big thumbs-up from pharmaceutical companies when they realize the cure they made years ago can finally make a profit." Serge pointed out.

"But I guess that's just a bit more bias from me. People not believing in magick screws with me in ways that I can't really explain. And I have it the easiest. Can't imagine what the disbelief does to other people. Well....actually I can, I've seen what happens."

[Cabal meeting]

"You don't need to sing it as well....just better! Or worse. Honestly I just wanna see that performance. With the pyrotechnics in the background, shooting flames into the air."

"Disney princess?" he raised an eyebrow. Then he said, "No one can sing that song better than Freddy Mercury," he said with a smile.

[Adley and Nicole go to Beefbarn]

'There's many other options. Just pointing out that.' she replied. On his question, the large woman frowned for a moment. 'Not sure... remember it was just after Cianci got indited.'

"That was a while ago, 2000? He ran again after he got out of prison. But we still get to thank him for having a local team again, I guess.  We've been making it to playoffs since 2012, but we keep getting knocked out."

[Chicago]

"It is a book about the Umbra, it's nature, layers and creation as well as theories on the development of natural realms and the Well of Souls so there are quite a few topics to get into." The Archmage said then she smiled a little.

"Yes, perhaps my queries will narrow the focus somewhat."

"I can spare some time...hum...can I ask how you came over my book?" She asked as she read over your notes. "It seams you might be interested in the symbolic nature of much of the Umbra., and perhaps theories about the Well of Souls..."

"Yes. I understand somewhat the nature of travelling in the umbra that distance is relational, and so the symbolic nature of it is very important. I know here are different areas and ways to get through them, but I admit to feeling lost when I tried to delve further," he said, sounding agreeable.

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]
S7trif3 wrote:"I'm not meaning to draw many different avatar pieces into one whole but rather the parts that once were together before they were broken. But it may not be possible to get them all, and I am sure there would be numerous complications. I'll ask her, then."
Colin nodded, "Sounds like it would be a risky proposition, at least - I can think of quite a few ways that could lead to stray fragments getting up in everyone's... business."

Anja wrote:"Well I do not have many traumatic memories to trap snoopers with unless my mom talking with my first girl I had a crush on in third grade counts."
The Artificer said wryly.
"Still I would like to keep people out of my mind if I can."
He nodded, "Well, if your mother talked with the girl in question right in front of you, I would say that's perhaps less traumatic and more awkward for any mind reader to look at... Not something you'd necessarily want to share like that, in any case."

Jeremy wrote:Serge narrowed his eyes towards Colin and said, "Oh my gosh. We need to go deeper."
He nodded, "But what would you use to bait gummy bears?"

Anja wrote:"Now there is another thing I would pay good money to see."
Bruce said wryly.
S7trif3 wrote:"Ah, no thank you I prefer my audiences in school where they do not usually throw tomatoes or if they do I can kick them out of class."
He nodded with a small, wry smile, "Fair point, though they do say you should sing like no-one is listening, and dance like no-one is watching..."

Jeremy wrote:"Yes! Come on Adley. Sing Bohemian Rhapsody! Let that fiery passion light up your voice and sing like the Disney Princess I may or may not have drawn you as!" Serge said urging the flambeau to embrace his inner singer.
S7trif3 wrote:"Wait, what did you say?" he said, looking at Serge. He blinked at him, then narrowed his eyes. "No one can sing that as well as Freddy Mercury..."
Jeremy wrote:"Nothing!" Serge said quickly, re-evaluating why he had said that in the first place. He figured that Beatrice might've had shown him the picture.

"You don't need to sing it as well....just better! Or worse. Honestly I just wanna see that performance. With the pyrotechnics in the background, shooting flames into the air!"
S7trif3 wrote:"Disney princess?" he raised an eyebrow. Then he said, "No one can sing that song better than Freddy Mercury," he said with a smile.
He nodded, "I've got to agree with Adley here - there's no topping Mercury's performance. Which reminds me, Kanye West needs a round of strep throat or somesuch infection; could someone remind me to consult Master Nassa about arranging that later?"

Anja wrote:"Indeed so Colin we are a Cabal we have to cooperate after all."
Bruce joked.
He nodded, "Coordination and delegating responsibilities, that's how we get things done."

Jeremy wrote:"Really? What's its name? How can a cake have a funny name?" Serge asked curiously, his interests turning towards the cake.
S7trif3 wrote:"Oh, no..."
Anja wrote:"Well a few months ago Colin invited the Cabal for dinner and for dessert we had his spotted dick."
Bruce said and grinned.
"It was most delicious."
He added and he grinned wider.
S7trif3 wrote:"And there it is," he said, facepalming. "I would say I saw that coming but that would sound incredibly rude, given the vulgar context."
Anja wrote:Bruce chuckled at that.
He grinned, "Well, spotted dick is a pudding, not a cake, but all the same... besides, you should see some of the dinner dishes."

Jeremy wrote:Serge chuckled immaturely at the vulgur joke. "Well that certainly puts a new spin on the whole 'bribing her with cake' now doesn't it. I can see why it would be irresistible."
Anja wrote:"See I might get to chase you around the Chantry with a whip still."
Bruce said and he chuckled.
S7trif3 wrote:"Not even going to comment...let's leave the whips and chains for another day, hrm?"
Anja wrote:"Spoilsport, but very well."
The Orphan said sounding amused.
Jeremy wrote:"Well, hope you have fun while you do it." Serge said with a smirk.
He grinned broadly, "Well, I suppose if Bruce doesn't get to run you around the Chantry with whips and chains, you could always create an illusion of him doing so..."

Jeremy wrote:"We named the dragon 'draconis' but Puff is such a good name as well." Serge said, enjoying Adley's light-hearted demeanor.
He arched an eyebrow, "You named the dragon 'Dragon', just in a different language... Isn't that rather like naming a cat 'Felis'?"

Jeremy wrote:"I'm not sure. One of the girls put your name into the pile but the problem was that some of the players didn't know who you were so it was a rather poor choice. It was likely either Rosa or Jane, since they knew you the best." Serge said, his face showing no signs of change or deception.
He narrowed his eyes a little and held Serge's gaze for several long seconds, "I see... And they thought it would be a good idea to write the name of a person they knew some of the others present probably didn't know that well... Perhaps I should ask them who they think put my name in the hat, too?"

S7trif3 wrote:"I don't follow that logic, but thank you. Yes, after this week is certainly fine."
He grinned, "It's a mathematical pun - 31 in Octal, or base eight, is 25 in Decimal, or base ten."

[Abandoned Junkyard]
Anja wrote:The girl took the card and looked at it.
He looked at the necklace with a slight frown, "I would say this could be worth some fifty to sixty dollars, easily... possibly more owing to the complexity of the piece. Tell you what, if you ever need to pawn it, just call me, and I'll come over with sixty dollars for it... We can come to an agreement as to how long I'll hold on to it in case you wish to redeem it later. Does that sound good?"

Anja wrote:"Wow that is so cool. I would love to see that."
The young girl exclaimed.
He smiled, "It might be possible to arrange something, someday..."

Anja wrote:"What do you mean manifesting? Like in everyone can see them?"
The blond girl asked.
"But yeah praying to them will work? Can you then ask them to do things for you?"
He nodded, "Taking on physical form, entering the set of dimensions we inhabit. And yes, that's generally the purpose of prayer; to ask for intervention. Well, that, and praise."

Nicole wrote:'You think I'm stupid or something? Know your game, me.' eyes narrowing a little as the large woman looked at Colin.
He arched an eyebrow, looking at Nicole with a slightly puzzled expression for a moment, then he nodded, "Your distaste for the mystical approach runs a little deeper than it merely being unscientific, doesn't it? Alright, how about this - we drop the point of contention until the immediate crisis is dealt with, then we sit down and discuss the issue at some length over a beer or two. Deal?"

Anja wrote:"Most of the time I can not really bother with what I drink, if I can get something warm to drink or a full belly, I do not have the luxury of identifying with a drink."
Trina commented darkly.
He frowned, then nodded, "Ah, sorry, I guess that's my more privileged circumstances shining through... You're right, though; getting to banter over preference is rather a luxury..."

Anja wrote:"Oh that makes me feel so much better."
Trina said and rolled her eyes.
He smiled, "Don't worry too much - we'll do what we can to make sure our spotter is protected from all angles, so all you have to do is keep an eye out for people and vehicles you recognize as belonging to the parasites."

Nicole wrote:'Will get back as soon as. Make sure any folk coming back here with me are ready and waiting.'
He nodded, "The Chief's gathering some intel and troops already, and I'll coordinate a bit more with one of the Deacons."

Anja wrote:"I will make sure the police are off your back and I will see if I can find your glasses and send you a message."
The Virtual Adept said.
"An yes if you are going to get yourself into trouble you should probably consult with Jeffry about this as well."
He advices.
He grinned, "Already spoke with him; he should be quite busy picking the team for the mission... and gathering a bit of intel."

((OOC: Yeah, I'd lean toward there being a general understanding between mystics and technomancers in the Traditions that "Same thing, different methods" is the status quo. And while Sleepers can perform science, it takes an Awakened Mage to perform Science! - whether we're talking about Union next-generation technology or an Etherite contraption. So while science works for everyone, Science! is as accessible to the common man as Magic. ))

[Junkyard]

He looked at the necklace with a slight frown, "I would say this could be worth some fifty to sixty dollars, easily... possibly more owing to the complexity of the piece. Tell you what, if you ever need to pawn it, just call me, and I'll come over with sixty dollars for it... We can come to an agreement as to how long I'll hold on to it in case you wish to redeem it later. Does that sound good?"

"Sixty dollars...really?"
The girl's eyes widened.
"I could eat for a long time for that if I am careful...ehm sure I will do so"
She said as she regarded you.
"Thanks man."

He smiled, "It might be possible to arrange something, someday..."

"That would be pretty cool, you mages are lucky."
Karin said and smiled.

He nodded, "Taking on physical form, entering the set of dimensions we inhabit. And yes, that's generally the purpose of prayer; to ask for intervention. Well, that, and praise."

"Then I will do that I will pray to the spirits here and leave them little gifts and see what happens."
The blond girl declared.

He frowned, then nodded, "Ah, sorry, I guess that's my more privileged circumstances shining through... You're right, though; getting to banter over preference is rather a luxury..."

Trina gave you a bit of a look then they sigh and nodded.
"Yeah..."

He smiled, "Don't worry too much - we'll do what we can to make sure our spotter is protected from all angles, so all you have to do is keep an eye out for people and vehicles you recognize as belonging to the parasites."

"Yeah...I will do it, I am just not happy abut it, but if I get eaten all up for dinner I am coming back and haunting your grandmother in the shower."
Trina declared glumly.

He grinned, "Already spoke with him; he should be quite busy picking the team for the mission... and gathering a bit of intel."

"Very well then, I will see what I can do on my end."
Narim said and you heard the sound of soup being poured in a bowl and then him sitting down with his computer.

Nicole clambered in to the car herself, switching on the engine, killing the stereo and pulling off once the girl had made herself comfortable.

'Okay. Any ideas on nearest place to get flares?'

"There is a sports supply store five minutes away from here they might have it, they sell all soft of tents and outdoor type things, they might have flares."
The young teenager suggested.

[Cabal Meeting]

He nodded, "Well, if your mother talked with the girl in question right in front of you, I would say that's perhaps less traumatic and more awkward for any mind reader to look at... Not something you'd necessarily want to share like that, in any case."

"Yeah no not really a memory to share and yes my mother talked to Stephanie Baker right in front of me, I wanted to isapair into the floor."
Bruce said with a slight smile.
"Thing is my life have been pretty good, the regular ups and downs off course but pretty good there is very little trauma there, I have been lucky, very lucky."

He nodded, "Coordination and delegating responsibilities, that's how we get things done."

"Indeed so."
Bruce said and he nodded in agreement.

He grinned, "Well, spotted dick is a pudding, not a cake, but all the same... besides, you should see some of the dinner dishes."

"To me if it have bread it is cake, pudding is like chocolate pudding an such, all jiggely."
Bruce declared.
"But you probably know best."

"Well, hope you have fun while you do it." Serge said with a smirk.

"Off course I will have fun."
Bruce said and grinned.

[Going to the Library]

"Your Mentor is quite awesome it seams."
Kyle said.
"I had no Mentor not really, but I had my dad he taught me what he could and he is great. I was in a car accident when I was just a little kid, we crashed and then I was safely outside the car, my parents did not get seriously hurt, they had to go to the hospital but got better quickly but the ambulance people found me in the grass on the side of the road not a scratch on me, I teleported as we crashed."

"I think Rowlings are probably a mage, my dad say that allot of artists who just get sudden inspiration and who are brilliant with their work are mages and many of them don't even know it as they never develop magick but their Avatars give them inspirations."
Kyle said then he smiled.
"And that would be a cool teleportation spell.

[Chicago]

"Yes, perhaps my queries will narrow the focus somewhat."

Crexia smiled softly.
"Yes well it took me several decades to write that book, so if I just picked a topic to talk about we might be here for a while."
She said sounding a bit amused.

Yes. I understand somewhat the nature of travelling in the umbra that distance is relational, and so the symbolic nature of it is very important. I know here are different areas and ways to get through them, but I admit to feeling lost when I tried to delve further," he said, sounding agreeable.

"It have to do with the nature of existence, I do not usually discuss the tree of life as it came into Hermetic thought long after my apprenticeship, but let me try to use that to explain, walking the Umbra is like walking up the tree, you go from manifested reality, into more and more unrefined concepts, you will walk the paths of ideas, concepts and eventually back to Kether itself, and there, at Kether sits the Well of Souls, the heart and beginning of our creation."
The old mage explained.

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]

Colin nodded, "Sounds like it would be a risky proposition, at least - I can think of quite a few ways that could lead to stray fragments getting up in everyone's... business."

"Definitely not without risk."

He nodded with a small, wry smile, "Fair point, though they do say you should sing like no-one is listening, and dance like no-one is watching..."

"I don't dance. I don't know how, so no one should ever have to bear witness to that at least."

He nodded, "I've got to agree with Adley here - there's no topping Mercury's performance. Which reminds me, Kanye West needs a round of strep throat or somesuch infection; could someone remind me to consult Master Nassa about arranging that later?"

Adley gave a blank look - he knew who Freddy Mercury was, not not Kayne West, or at least why he should suffer a Verbena's wrath.

"I'm not sure. One of the girls put your name into the pile but the problem was that some of the players didn't know who you were so it was a rather poor choice. It was likely either Rosa or Jane, since they knew you the best." Serge said, his face showing no signs of change or deception.
He narrowed his eyes a little and held Serge's gaze for several long seconds, "I see... And they thought it would be a good idea to write the name of a person they knew some of the others present probably didn't know that well... Perhaps I should ask them who they think put my name in the hat, too?"

"And now you know why I am so meticulous not to write anything down or leave it behind afterward..."

He grinned, "It's a mathematical pun - 31 in Octal, or base eight, is 25 in Decimal, or base ten."

"Ah, see? I am not as good at math as you, I wouldn't have understood that at all without the explanation."

[Chicago]

Crexia smiled softly.
"Yes well it took me several decades to write that book, so if I just picked a topic to talk about we might be here for a while."
She said sounding a bit amused.

He drank some of the brandy and then suddenly asked, "If he went...somewhere better than he might have, is it possible that at the end of my mortal life I would see him again? I suppose not, as I'm not Roman..." Then he shook his head. "It's an amazing book, and you have so many tales to tell I'm sure to have learned so much..."

The old mage explained

"That...sounds like a dangerous journey. One of my cabalmates spoke of a place in the umbra that was pure dynamic creation..."

Post by Jeremy Silverstein on Sat Oct 13, 2018 9:14 am

[Cabal Meeting]

Colin wrote:He nodded, "But what would you use to bait gummy bears?"

"...Gummy Honey." Serge said trying to maintain a serious look on his face.

Adley wrote:"Disney princess?" he raised an eyebrow.

"Beatrice will probably tell you when she's better. But of course...if she forgets too, there's no reason to inquire about it. Just something I did to help brighten her mood." Serge said trying to dissuade from any further revelation on the picture.

Adley wrote:Then he said, "No one can sing that song better than Freddy Mercury," he said with a smile.
Colin wrote:He nodded, "I've got to agree with Adley here - there's no topping Mercury's performance. Which reminds me, Kanye West needs a round of strep throat or somesuch infection; could someone remind me to consult Master Nassa about arranging that later?"

Serge tried to think of a response when a realization came to him. "Wait....I'm not sure if I've ever actually seen Freddy Mercury perform in real life. He was dead long before I was born and I was never into music in the first place. I just know, like, one of his songs and that one rap battle he did with Frank Sinatra."

Colin wrote:He grinned broadly, "Well, I suppose if Bruce doesn't get to run you around the Chantry with whips and chains, you could always create an illusion of him doing so..."

"And then get yelled at by everyone for screwing around with their heads. Yeah, probably not going to happen." Serge said with a sigh. "And if it was for my own personal benefit I'd probably just illusion him into a ferocious black knight stalking me to the ends of the earth. Or as a clown named beepo. Either or.

Colin wrote:He arched an eyebrow, "You named the dragon 'Dragon', just in a different language... Isn't that rather like naming a cat 'Felis'?"

"I'm pretty certain a lot of people do that." Serge said trying to think back. "Plus latin names just sounds cooler so I'm cool with it."

Colin wrote:He narrowed his eyes a little and held Serge's gaze for several long seconds, "I see... And they thought it would be a good idea to write the name of a person they knew some of the others present probably didn't know that well... Perhaps I should ask them who they think put my name in the hat, too?"

Serge shrugged at that, once again not showing any signs of flinching even under the Orphans watchful eye. "Sure thing. You could solve the mystery. My money's on Jane. She might've been to young to realize."

[Going to the Library]

Anja wrote:"Your Mentor is quite awesome it seams."

"I remember that story." Serge said with a smirk. "You told me that the first time we met. Still wild though. The legend of the teleporting baby."

A brief chuckle at that before continuing, "Your dad sounds pretty awesome as well."

Anja wrote:"I think Rowlings are probably a mage, my dad say that allot of artists who just get sudden inspiration and who are brilliant with their work are mages and many of them don't even know it as they never develop magick but their Avatars give them inspirations."
Kyle said then he smiled.
"And that would be a cool teleportation spell.

"You know what teleportation spell I've always wanted to create. Batman Teleport!" Serge said gesturing widely with his hands for emphasis.

"Essentially you send a mental pulse to everyone around you that causes them to look away from you for a brief moment. You teleport in that brief moment and when the people look back it's like you just vanished. One last mental pulse would cause everyone to believe that your just really slick and just left while they had their backs turn. Would still be vulgar but would let you teleport in a crowded area while still maintaining the law of shade and having no witnesses."

Re: Little Moments Between Steptember and November, Meetings and Endings IC Thread 30

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]

"And then get yelled at by everyone for screwing around with their heads. Yeah, probably not going to happen." Serge said with a sigh. "And if it was for my own personal benefit I'd probably just illusion him into a ferocious black knight stalking me to the ends of the earth. Or as a clown named beepo. Either or.

"See you can whip yourself into shape just make yourself a nice illusion."
Bruce said sounding amused.
"Or you know find some fun form of exercise. I like jogging but if it is not for you then you will never keep it up, what about those computer games you can control by moving around in front of a camera?"
He suggested.

[Chicago]

He drank some of the brandy and then suddenly asked, "If he went...somewhere better than he might have, is it possible that at the end of my mortal life I would see him again? I suppose not, as I'm not Roman..." Then he shook his head. "It's an amazing book, and you have so many tales to tell I'm sure to have learned so much..."

Crexia regarded you then she sigh and said.
"There are many underworlds, and generally like in all things belief play a big role here and we go after death to the place we believe we will, or where we are connected to, as a Hermetic you are more likely to end up in a Greco Roman underworld than for example the Christian haven unless that is your personal faith."
The old Hermetic said.
"There are ways for a mage to decide where we go after death though, you might not be able to cast such magick yet but I can loan you a book which will tell you how if you should decide you want to see your friend again in the afterlife."

"That...sounds like a dangerous journey.

"Yes it was, but it was also quite rewarding, I saw wonderful sights."
The archmage said and smiled.

One of my cabalmates spoke of a place in the umbra that was pure dynamic creation..."

"Ah yes Flux, that is what it is called, it is a realm full of potential, never ending change. It is the realm Stasis forgot. If we look at reality we find three core elements, creation, stability and entropy, we find it in the tree of life, we find it in most creation myths. Creation create but have no form, it is pure will to create, change and be, Stasis then give creation from and stabilize it, until it starts to decay and again become pure creation. Flux is just the creative element with none of the others, a most dangerous place."
The Archmage commented.
"Only Bygones and heavily Dynamic Umbroods make their home in Flux."

[Going to the Library]

"I remember that story." Serge said with a smirk. "You told me that the first time we met. Still wild though. The legend of the teleporting baby."

A brief chuckle at that before continuing, "Your dad sounds pretty awesome as well."

"I was three so I was not a baby I could remember even if I do not understand what happened at the time."
Kyle said then he smiled.
"Yeah my dad is pretty awesome, he is really good at stopping others from working magick."

"You know what teleportation spell I've always wanted to create. Batman Teleport!" Serge said gesturing widely with his hands for emphasis.

"But Batman never teleports he just shoots a grappling hook and off he go."
Kyle protested.

"Essentially you send a mental pulse to everyone around you that causes them to look away from you for a brief moment. You teleport in that brief and when the people look back it's like you just vanished. One last mental pulse would cause everyone to believe that your just really slick and just left while they had their backs turn. Would still be vulgar but would let you teleport in a crowded area while still maintaining the law of shade and having no witnesses."

"Yeah that works, that is a pretty cool spell actually and it would be practical."
The young mage agreed.
"I am sure you would be able to make it one day.

[Serge's Adventure]

Serge's Post:
"So pretty standard reddit hate. Lot's of people seem to share those sentiments." Serge replied although it was clear he didn't mean that in a condescending way. "Although you seem..rather heated when talking about them. But that's probably a topic for another day. If we keep talking about the stuff you hate it'll just ruin your day."

Nicole gave a little grunt to this. 'And guess who was the first ones to tell me about all this? Choristers.' ending with a smirk.

Serge's Post:
"Why does everyone have cooler shit than I do..." Serge said with a sigh sauntering along the sidewalk.

'Dunno. Perhaps your player decided you didn't need "fancy toys" on creation? Or didn't spot the merchant in the training level so didn't have the chance to buy any?' giving a smirk. 'I cheated and used my sneak-thief skills on the NPC's to get some good shit above my level.'

Serge's Post:
"There'll be wars and fights regardless of what happens. And we'll always find a way to make them more terrible regardless of which side of the coin is in power. Chlorine gas and Machine Guns vs Flesh-eating Curses and Zombie Armies. Let's flip it around shall we. We could also used magick to protect people you know? Protect people from diseases that don't need millions of dollars in research and the big thumbs-up from pharmaceutical companies when they realize the cure they made years ago can finally make a profit." Serge pointed out.

'If you start healing diseases without all those millions of bucks in research and expensive trademarked pills, think you'll get a horse's head in your bed from Big Pharma, not a thumbs up.' Nicole said thoughtfully, finishing her cigarette.

Serge's Post:
"But I guess that's just a bit more bias from me. People not believing in magick screws with me in ways that I can't really explain. And I have it the easiest. Can't imagine what the disbelief does to other people. Well....actually I can, I've seen what happens."

'And that's our dilemma. That while we may bitch about the Union going around imposing it's view on everyone... it does actually help us that this world is a scientific one.' she mused.

[Shall start wrapping this scene up; perhaps to move along to a 'Cava meets the big mechanic lady'?]

[RI Roadtrip]

Adley's Post:
"That was a while ago, 2000? He ran again after he got out of prison. But we still get to thank him for having a local team again, I guess. We've been making it to playoffs since 2012, but we keep getting knocked out."

'Heh, I've watched some the games on cable. Do you really think the rumours about Buddy using cops as goons to beat up those folk who dissed his mistress true?'

[Running out of topics... shall we fast-forward a bit?]

[Junkyard]

Colin's Post:
He arched an eyebrow, looking at Nicole with a slightly puzzled expression for a moment, then he nodded, "Your distaste for the mystical approach runs a little deeper than it merely being unscientific, doesn't it? Alright, how about this - we drop the point of contention until the immediate crisis is dealt with, then we sit down and discuss the issue at some length over a beer or two. Deal?"

'Oh, not that... but not the time for that topic.'

Anja's Post:
"There is a sports supply store five minutes away from here they might have it, they sell all soft of tents and outdoor type things, they might have flares."
The young teenager suggested.

A nod to this. 'Okay, direct me.' pulling out of the yard and re-joining the road.

[Unless the girl wants to chat... fast forward to store?]

[Junkyard]

A nod to this. 'Okay, direct me.' pulling out of the yard and re-joining the road.

The teenager did not say much during the short ride, she just sat wathing the street flow by as you drove an now and again gave directions. You came to stop in front of a sports good store which where located between a pizza hut and a gun shop. A tall black man with a boy of about twelve where on their way of the store with a tent they carried between them.
"I will look for flares and then hurry back then."
The teenager said on her way out of the car, she waited to see if you had something to say and if you did not then she hurried into the sport store sneaking past the man and his son and their tent.

(OOC: Do you want me to start the scene with Cava.)
