"Beatrice is a widderslainte?" Serge said tapping his chin with his pen as he tried to remember if he knew that information or not. "Well it doesn't really matter to me. The widderslainte I've met here have been pretty cool dudes. Hope she's doing all right now."
He nodded, "She's essentially the sweetest little dark angel you could imagine, though perhaps a little less anomalous than she's generally given credit for - we've met a few this past week who are... decidedly not the little bundles of evil they're assumed to be."

"My brother and her are not typical, in any way shape or form. So in general, it should matter. Widderslainte are not very often nice people. Beatrice is doing better than she was, thankfully."

"I've heard several stories of the cauls from the prisoners. They always seem to flinch when it's brought up. Can't believe anyone would willingly jump into one." Serge said with wide eyes as he glanced at Colin. "That's some hero level luck you got there Mr. Wainwright. Or maybe your just the chosen one."

"It's traumatic, as you might expect having yourself unbirthed from the universe via a portal into something that is Not."

"A Avatar used as a weapon, shit how is that even possible?"
Bruce said then he grunted.
"I get it that there is nothing that can be done for your Adley but it still suck."
He said and frowned again.

"They made an illicit pact with an evil spirit and essentially...spliced it, it was quite horrible. Even the avatar did not like what had happened to it, but the woman's reason for doing it was equally distressing. She did not wish to be gilguled."

He glanced over at Adley, pondering for a moment, "Let us just say there is reason to believe her motivations go well beyond the merely petty, but that the matter is sensitive. I would recommend looking up The Fragile Path - specifically, the Revelation of Akrites Salonikas the Seer. The honoured Quaesitors D'Angelo are twins... and much will be heard of them in the coming months and years, I believe."
"Unless we take their asses down before they have the chance to do any damage that is."
Bruce commented wryly.
"What do the Fragile Path have to do with this though is not that about a bunch of dead guys?"

"I'm not sure that's something we need to discuss, yet. But safe to say, it is likely not just a petty grudge."

The penmanship was a blocky but legible print, the kind usually seen in those who'd given up writing - and perhaps school in general -  by sixth grade. To his question, she gave a "go ahead" shrug, and said nothing.

He handed the note over to Colin.

'So you're all camped out right in the middle of a huge fucking minefield and you-' glaring at Adley for a moment '-have the front to lecture and shoot haughty looks at me? Oh, and trying to drag in the kid-' nodding towards Serge '-in blind too?' 'If this shit is as big as you're all treating it, you will reek of death and few will wanna go near you in fear it's catchy. Is that why the Chief asked a couple of out-of-towners to do this, hmm?' her body language making it clear a line had been crossed. 'Now, no stranger to shit, I ain't. I don't leave others in the lurch either. But quit the fucking charade and be honest - you need all the help you can get.'

"I'm not dragging any kids into this, he's an adult and can make his own choices about what he wants to do and I didn't paint any sort of wonderful picture about how it was going to be all sunshine and bunnies. We're telling you about what's going on, I wasn't trying to put one over on you about what was going on here. That's literally why we are here right now. There is no use in telling people about what's going on that don't want to be here. There's no charade but there is information that we're not going to give to just anyone, which would be for your benefit if you didn't want to join. I'm sure you understand what compartmentalizing information is about.  And lastly, if you were asked to do something by my pater, it was because he thought you seemed capable of doing that thing. It has nothing to do with you being out of towners. If you're implying in any way that my pater thinks one person, especially one that lives in this chantry, is expendable, then you have no idea how wrong you are." He was starting to get angrier, his patience nearing its end. " We probably do need help, but what we don't need is your attitude or the immense chip on your shoulder; maybe you should have left /that/ in Detroit too, while you were at it."

[Adley, Colin, Nicole, Tane and Serge] (Cabal meeting 10 in the morning Wednesday 30/9 2015)

'Erm... why is it looking at me like that?' clearly rattled by this development.

Jareth gave you another hungry look.

"You like the colors Mr. Owl? I'll let you have it if you tell Mr. Wainwright to accept me into the cabal." Serge said holding the drawing up so that Jareth could see all of the colors. He still maintained a good grip on it so and kept an eye on the mischievous owl Jareth making sure he wouldn't just take it all of a sudden.

The owl made a happy little sounds and pecked at the brightest of the colors turning his head all the way around like his kind did to have a better look.

He glanced up at Jareth and frowned, "Bugger if I know, he's never looked at people like that. Well, except Strawberry, but even so..."
He sighed and opened the bedroom door, pointing in there, "Alright, Jareth, in you go for a little bit."

Jareth looked disappointed for a moment he gave Nicole another hungry look and then pecked at the colors on Serge's drawing then he took off and flew into the bedroom setteling down on the parrot perch you had bought him and placed in there.

'Have I done anything to suggest I would do that?' Nicole replied, crossing her arms and looking over the group.

Bruce shrugged.
"Well there was how you acted around the vampires I am not saying I care much about that you treated the hedgie apprentice well, but I guess the question is what would you do if left alone with a vampire prisoner?"
He asked before preparing another cracker, eating it and washing it down with tea.

'Latin?' Nicole echoed, a little thrown at this. 'Not a word. What's the point in learning a language which died before Boston existed? Hell, even the Church has dumped it, and they love everything which is stupidly out of date.' the dismissive tone clear. 'Anyway, that's the fucking point of a crew - that we pool talents and specialise. I do the diplomacy when words fail.'

"I don't know any Latin either."
Bruce commented though Adley would know he had asked about the best book to learn some phrases of it to impress Nico.

'So you're all camped out right in the middle of a huge fucking minefield and you-' glaring at Adley for a moment '-have the front to lecture and shoot haughty looks at me? Oh, and trying to drag in the kid-' nodding towards Serge '-in blind too?'

"We are telling you both this information Miss Bouchard, clearly we are not trying to get anything to do anything blind, if we did we would have kept it a secret."
Bruce said now sounding a little bit annoyed that the honor of his Cabal was questioned.
"We are putting all the cards on the table in advance and while we have some issues this is a well established Cabal, those joining would get that a well established Cabal big enough to be a influence at the Chantry. I mean two of our members are the apprentices of two of the Deacons!"

He smiled wryly, "Essentially, yes, but I'd rather not advertise that particular ability. People might think I'm glad to do such things..."

"I am not going to spread the information but I have to admit to be a little jealous."
The Orphan said and grinned.

He smiled thinly, "And you are correct - we do need all the help we can get; but from the Cabal's perspective, we would like to know if you would prove an asset or liability before extending the invitation. And I think perhaps we've reached the point where we can vote on whether or not to formally invite you, unless there's any other questions anyone would like to ask of Miss Bouchard?"

"No I am good I mean she can fight, and she is a good mechanic that is useful."
Bruce said as he gulped the rest of his tea down.

"They made an illicit pact with an evil spirit and essentially...spliced it, it was quite horrible. Even the avatar did not like what had happened to it, but the woman's reason for doing it was equally distressing. She did not wish to be gilguled."

"That sounds really nasty, but why do that to herself no one want to be Gilgulled, but still damn!"
Bruce grunted.
"What happened to the host?"

"I'm not sure that's something we need to discuss, yet. But safe to say, it is likely not just a petty grudge."

The Orphan artificer just grunted at that and nodded.

"Yeah let me add something here, okey, first of all Master Morgan have never been anything but decent to anyone at the Chantry. I have seen him risk his life for several of us and he have never treated me or Colin like shit because we are Orphans, sure he can be old fashioned and a bit overly formal but he is a good man. Secondly he recommended you two to a Cabal, an established Cabal, usually new members to a Chantry will just be made Sentinels for a few years and that mean you work for the chantry to guard duty and all the shit jobs for a faction of the rights the full members have until you have proved himself, Master Morgan did none of that he recommended you to an established Cabal and good luck finding one of those that do not have any baggage."
Bruce commented and grunted.

(Colin's workshop)

He smiled, "Duly noted... I believe Drake mentioned, come December, that the chap is from... Sabbat, was that right? Not entirely sure about the factions, as such - that's not a clan like the Tremere or Malkavian, right?

"No Clans would be like our Traditions if we where all like some lines of Verbena and Dreamspeakers where it was inherited by blood and not instruction, factions are more like our own factions. The factions of the vampires do not really correspond to our own very well, but suffice to say the one that this man is of pride themselves on being vampires and living true to their nature. They are rather secretive though so I do not know allot about them other than them being at war with the faction you came into contact with in Chicago and they leave death and blood in their wake."
Kristina said.
"And yes he is Sabbat most likely."

And yes, I will be careful - I will finish up preparations for self defense, should it prove necessary, but i believe he will respect the rules of offered sanctuary."

"I do not know this man so I do not know how he would behave but make sure your gun is loaded, do not try to defend yourself with a stake unless you now exactly how to do it, staking a vampire who is fighting back is not easy, you are better of using a gun and magick."
Kristina advices.

He grinned slightly, "And say hello to the kids for me, would you?"

"I will Mr Wainwright, thank you."
The Verbena said and you could almost hear her smile.
"Anything else then?"

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]
Jeremy wrote:"You like the colors Mr.
Colin chuckled softly, "Jareth does not exactly speak... and it's not my place to decide alone, in any case."

Anja wrote:Jareth looked disappointed for a moment he gave Nicole another hungry look and then pecked at the colors on Serge's drawing then he took off and flew into the bedroom setteling down on the parrot perch you had bought him and placed in there.
He gently closed the door and nodded to Nicole, "I'm sorry he bothered you; I'll keep a mental note of it for the future... I'm curious as to why, though... you hardly seem like a timid rabbit, after all."

Jeremy wrote:"Ok that's the coolest description of an Avatar I've ever heard. A frag grenade avatar." Serge commented with a chuckle.
He smiled wryly, "Yes, well, she's not entirely too fond of being described as such..."

Anja wrote:"I am not going to spread the information but I have to admit to be a little jealous."
The Orphan said and grinned.
He grimaced, "If you only knew what you were jealous of, you might hide under your bed for a few years..."

S7trif3 wrote:"They made an illicit pact with an evil spirit and essentially...spliced it, it was quite horrible. Even the avatar did not like what had happened to it, but the woman's reason for doing it was equally distressing. She did not wish to be gilguled."

Bruce grunted.
"What happened to the host?"
He frowned, "We were able to separate the Avatar from the spirit of malice that turned her Avatar into an attack dog... and she was subsequently subdued and captured. It's... quite a bitter irony, since the only reason she joined the Fallen and mangled her Avatar like that was to avoid her Mentor's fate..."

Jeremy wrote:"The Fragile Path? I heard of that book. Never read it though. Wouldn't mind reading it. The adventure of the First cabal sound like an interesting read." Serge said beginning a new drawing in his notepad.
He nodded, "There's a very good copy in the library... the illustrations are rather... explicit, though."

S7trif3 wrote:He handed the note over to Colin.
He read the note, arched an eyebrow, and noted down the name and contact information smoothly in a far more elegant scrawl before handing the slip of paper back.

[Colin's shop, Monday, September 28th, 7 PM]

He pondered, "Hum, the fellow does not seem a bad sort, though - he took in a baby raven, and has kept it as a pet ever since, even cooking its meat on the veterinarian's orders following a digestion problem... He does not seem the needlessly violent or cruel sort from the brief conversation I had with him."

Anja wrote:"I do not know this man so I do not know how he would behave but make sure your gun is loaded, do not try to defend yourself with a stake unless you now exactly how to do it, staking a vampire who is fighting back is not easy, you are better of using a gun and magick."

He smiled wryly, "Let's just say I'll have a circle of primal fire ready, and I'll make sure to be inside it, while he'll have free access to the exit."

"I will Mr Wainwright, thank you."
The Verbena said and you could almost hear her smile.
"Anything else then?"
He smiled, "No, that will be all... I'll let you know what Mr. Ameli says, after he's left; probably just send a message. Good night."

[Nicole's apartment, 7PM Thursday, October 1st]
Nicole wrote:'Everything's dangerous. Could die from Blu-Tak, a cinema chair or a cat water bowl.' Nicole replied dismissively, starting to root around in the tool-box - it being as organised-looking as the room - and found a small flashlight and tested it. 'True, there's some folk who just can't be bothered with the hassle... but that usually means they don't actually want it that much.' using the flashlight to inspect the darker parts of the pistol.

'But what's up with your apprentice, then?'
Colin smiled thinly, "Anna was raised by a Prelate in a Labyrinth - the man tried to encourage viciousness by making her watch his recreational torture and lobotomy... the only thing that gave her was a crippling fear of needles, and of anything to do with the head. Which means no needles for her until she can come to terms with the possibility that not all needles are used to harm people."

Nicole wrote:'It's that "sunk cost" thing.' the Etherite replied, now performing the rest of the field strip Colin had started. 'Solid round, already had millions of decent rifles to use it... so why change? Only got ditched 'cos flanged rounds don't do large clips well and are touchy about magazine feeding.' levering out the barrel. 'And obsolete only means "something better is out there", not that it's now crap.' finishing off with the recoil spring.
He nodded, "Fair point - the Soviet Union was well known for pragmatism as such."

Nicole wrote:'Extractor full of crud, rusted barrel, worn springs, suspicious-looking plate.' Nicole commented. 'Pass me that rucksack by your feet.'
He arched an eyebrow, handing over the rucksack, "Now, I have had it regularly serviced, and I've maintained it to the best of my ability, so I rather doubt the rusted barrel claim... the rest does sound plausible."

[Adley, Colin, Nicole, Tane and Serge] (Cabal meeting 10 in the morning Wednesday 30/9 2015)

Colin chuckled softly, "Jareth does not exactly speak... and it's not my place to decide alone, in any case."

Jareth gave you a happy coo when you spoke his name and looked over at you.

He grimaced, "If you only knew what you were jealous of, you might hide under your bed for a few years..."

Bruce grunted at that.

"And now she will be....shit...I know she is a Nephanda and evil as can be but I sort of feel bad for her."
Bruce said and frowned.

(Colin's Workshop.)

Someone being kind to animals is a good sign but not a guarantee that this man means well but hopefully the meeting will go well and with no incident."
The Verbena said over the phone.

He smiled wryly, "Let's just say I'll have a circle of primal fire ready, and I'll make sure to be inside it, while he'll have free access to the exit."

"That should do it, vampires are not found of fire as you have observed."
Kristina said approvingly.

He smiled, "No, that will be all... I'll let you know what Mr. Ameli says, after he's left; probably just send a message. Good night."

"Very well have a good night Mr Wainwright and please say hello to Master Nassa, Beatrice and Miss Rozzo."
She said before hanging up on the call.

[Adley, Colin, Nicole, Tane and Serge] (Cabal meeting 10 in the morning Wednesday 30/9 2015)

Oh, the "everybody else is doing it, so should you" argument?' Nicole replied, arching an eyebrow. 'If I'm gonna expend energy in learning a language, it would he something useful like Chinese.'

"I don't speak Latin myself so it is hardly a requirement but there is little doubt that for a Traditionalist it is useful for a Traditionalist as there is allot of meetings among mages where everyone speaks Latin, so while it might not be useful in sleeper society it is useful among the Traditions."
Bruce said and shrugged.
"But it is up to you."

'He's capable of making his own choices, I know that. Just that he's new to all this kinda thing and don't you tell me that ain't exploited.' Nicole retorted. 'Amazingly enough, ask my own question, you have: if your teach has suggested me, don't that mean he thinks it's a good idea? That is unless you doubt his judgement?' giving Adley a raised eyebrow.

"No one around here have exploited Mr Yager, it was suggested you and him join our Cabal, which comes with benefits and drawbacks, the same as for any mage joining up with a new Chantry and a Cabal, he can walk away right now and have nothing more to do with us and like I said with his linage and the fact that he is sweet, polite and kind there are many who would take him in, I fail to see where the exploitation come into the picture?"
Bruce said and frowned.
"If anyone is in danger of being exploited it is you since you will have far less offers for placements, and hell the kid is nice and easy to like, I still think you have far more skills and potential though Miss Bouchard."

'If you're suggesting I'm from the "The Jack Bauer School of Interrogation", you're wrong.' sounding a little insulted.

"I am simply asking as I assume that is part of why Adley was originally skeptical though insulting his Mentor probably did not earn you allot of points with him, the concern that if you are ever in a position to do harm to a prisoner or Custos who are some sort of person or creature you dislike that you might not act appropriately. Mind I am making no claims I am simply asking what you would do in such a situation."
The Orphan explained.

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]
Nicole wrote:'Strawberry? Oh... that rat-changer.' Nicole replied, tone a little uncertain once the bird had left.
Colin nodded, "The wererat, yes. Rather adorable, really, but Jareth did look at her with a slightly puzzled, hungry look. Strawberry did not appreciate it, either..."

Nicole wrote:'Oh, the "everybody else is doing it, so should you" argument?' Nicole replied, arching an eyebrow. 'If I'm gonna expend energy in learning a language, it would he something useful like Chinese.'

Bruce said and shrugged.
"But it is up to you."
He smiled wryly, "More like an 'It's a useful thing, so you should at least consider it' argument. And frankly, Chinese is a good suggestion, too - even if Latin is a more practical second language in the Traditions. I might also suggest German, Spanish, Russian or Japanese as a useful choice, next to Chinese... It rather boils down to which you think will be more useful to you. In any case, it does help if you can follow a conversation... especially one where the ones conversing might think you don't understand what they are saying."

Nicole wrote:'He's capable of making his own choices, I know that.

'Go on, check with Smirnov. Or ask the Chief. I know you lot love doing backgrounds on folk. I stand on my previous. And from the sounds of it you're more likely to get me iced than the other way round.'
He stifled a chuckle, "Now, now, calm down, both of you. I think perhaps part of why you are so quick at each others' throats is that you are too much alike, even if you might not see it... But unless you can control your tempers a little, I might have to ask Chief Morgan to set up a pocket realm for you to engage in... teambuilding exercises. And I mean in the Flambeau House Meeting way."

[Colin's shop, Monday, September 28th, 7 PM]
Anja wrote:Someone being kind to animals is a good sign but not a guarantee that this man means well but hopefully the meeting will go well and with no incident."
The Verbena said over the phone.
Colin smiled wryly, "Considering you had him visiting in December in the future I saw, I think I can afford taking the risk."

Anja wrote:"That should do it, vampires are not found of fire as you have observed."
Kristina said approvingly.
He grimaced, "Yes... very much so. I'd rather not observe it again."

Anja wrote:"Very well have a good night Mr Wainwright and please say hello to Master Nassa, Beatrice and Miss Rozzo."
She said before hanging up on the call.
He nodded, "Will do... Ah, in case you didn't hear yet, Beatrice's operation was successful - she's well on her way to a full recovery."

After hanging up, he went about preparing a protective circle on the floor behind the register, making sure the chalk line was perfect, and that it would not touch anything that might be hard to explain to Agnes in the morning...

((OOC: So, taking time with preparations for a primal firewall, basically - Arete rolls: 4,7,8 - 1,0,0... Probably a bit overkill for a mere scare, as opposed to something designed to do harm, but Colin would want to make sure he's got a bit of fine control of the thing, more than power anyway. Basically, the idea is that Colin is holding the spell at the ready, until and just in case of Ameli deciding to get hostile. Colin can stand safely within the circle, which then forms a cylinder of primal fire around him while Ameli is scared out of the shop - if necessary.))

"Dare I ask how House Flambeau do their House Meetings?"
Bruce asked and raised an eyebrow.

Sounds like he might be one of the good ones then."
Kristina said.

He grimaced, "Yes... very much so. I'd rather not observe it again."

"No it can be a quite terrifying sight."
The Verbena agreed.
"Let us hope scaring this vampire out of your shop will not become necessary."

He nodded, "Will do... Ah, in case you didn't hear yet, Beatrice's operation was successful - she's well on her way to a full recovery."

"I heard that, it is very good news indeed Mr Wainwright please wish her a speedy recovery from me."
She said politely.

After hanging up, he went about preparing a protective circle on the floor behind the register, making sure the chalk line was perfect, and that it would not touch anything that might be hard to explain to Agnes in the morning...

You got your spell cast it was not to much effort though the precision you desired meant it took a bit of time to do. Shortly after you where done the door opened and a very tall, thin man entered. Your guest where thin in a different way than Beatrice, your Cabalmate looked like she did not eat enough, and indeed after the ritual she had not eaten enough and had gotten even thinner, Mr Ameli looked like his bones, all of him where just smaller, he had a beautiful face, his eyes hidden behind a pair of purple sunglasses set in an antique setting, he was wearing a spotless black suit, his hair was black and long and worn in a ponytail, a purple, silk shirt could be seen under this jacket and a black tight, a intricate silver stud set with a ruby decorated one of his ears which was slightly pointed, not so much so that he had to hide them among sleepers but certainly the shape of them where noteworthy. The man wore a very old ring on his left index finger and his fingernails where painted dark purple and where fairly pointed, on his shoulder sat a large raven, the bird looked around your shop with interest as the man stepped inside and gave a slight bow.
"Mr Wainwright I presume, I am Mr Ameli."
He said and from his accent he might have spend some time in France, lifting one hand he removed his sunglasses folding them up and placing them in a pocket, his eyes where terrifying, they where all black like Dalisse's eyes had bee and had you not spent hours talking with the Handler the man's look might have taken you more by surprise.
"Good evening and thank you for the invitation."
He said politely then he indicated the bird.
"And as requested I brought my little friend."

Colin wrote:Colin chuckled softly, "Jareth does not exactly speak... and it's not my place to decide alone, in any case."

"I could probably speak to him, but since I'm not a Verbana it might not go to well." Serge said with a grin.

Colin wrote:He smiled wryly, "Yes, well, she's not entirely too fond of being described as such..."

"Oh! Sorry then Mr. Wainwright. And sorry Mr. Wainwright Avatar. I still think your cool though."

Adley wrote:"I'm not dragging any kids into this, he's an adult and can make his own choices about what he wants to do and I didn't paint any sort of wonderful picture about how it was going to be all sunshine and bunnies.
Nicole wrote:'He's capable of making his own choices, I know that.

"I'm ok with the whole 'petty Quasitor' thing, if anyone wants to know. Stuff like that will be unavoidable regardless of where I go and it doesn't even bother me all to much." Serge said before piping down and letting the adults speak.

And I mean in the Flambeau House Meeting way."

"Who would win in a fight, Mr. Roth Hicks or Nicole? Now that's an interesting question...." Serge said with a tilt of his head before gaining inspiration and drawing another.

"Dare I ask how House Flambeau do their House Meetings?"
Bruce asked and raised an eyebrow.

"Fire. Fire everywhere. Terrible burning fire everywhere. At least that's how I imagined it." Serge said with a grin.

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]
Jeremy wrote:"I could probably speak to him, but since I'm not a Verbana it might not go to well." Serge said with a grin.
Colin grinned, "I'm no Verbena either, and I speak to him just fine - he understands human speech quite well, he's just not able to speak it himself."

Jeremy wrote:"Oh! Sorry then Mr. Wainwright. And sorry Mr. Wainwright Avatar. I still think your cool though."
He sighed, "Quite alright, and I know you do - Dr. Boudavich warned me about that in a few weeks."

Jeremy wrote:"Who would win in a fight, Mr. Roth Hicks or Nicole? Now that's an interesting question...." Serge said with a tilt of his head before gaining inspiration and drawing another.
He smiled enigmatically, "Best not to... draw any conclusions at this time, Mr. Yager."

Anja wrote:"Dare I ask how House Flambeau do their House Meetings?"
Bruce asked and raised an eyebrow.
Jeremy wrote:"Fire. Fire everywhere. Terrible burning fire everywhere. At least that's how I imagined it." Serge said with a grin.
He grinned, "Oh, I hear it's just an absolute blast..."

[Colin's shop, Monday, September 28th, 8 PM]
Anja wrote:"No it can be a quite terrifying sight."
The Verbena agreed.
"Let us hope scaring this vampire out of your shop will not become necessary."
He nodded, "Let us hope so indeed. It'd be a shame after I offered him sanctuary, after all."

Anja wrote:You got your spell cast it was not to much effort though the precision you desired meant it took a bit of time to do.
He took a few steps around the shop and made sure the circle was not immediately obvious from the shop floor itself, nodded in satisfaction, and assumed his position behind the register again, calling Jareth down to the counter before Ameli arrived.

I am sorry I could not get back to you during the weekend, but we rather had a spot of bother to contend with - the Nephandi tried to unmake the world; very nearly succeeded, too... At any rate, I took the liberty of cleaning your blade properly. There was some soil and dirt on it, so it really needed a careful wash. I used nothing more dangerous than a bit of rubbing alcohol for it, though - I was a bit unsure of some of the compounds in the usual polish, so I decided best not to risk it..."
He gently pushed the little case with the dagger across the counter, "As promised, your original dagger returned. To be honest, I think replicating it might have taken me closer to a week, what with the particular alloying. So it was quite fortuitous that my Chantry was the one to collect your blade."
He smiled thinly, "And there is the matter of the contact I should like to introduce you to. Her name is Kristina Knox, I wrote down her telephone number on a note in the box there, she and her husband have a rather fine residence in France, where they offer some assistance to vampires who have... difficulties of various sorts. She works in Chicago, though."

[Adley, Colin, Nicole, Tane and Serge] (Cabal meeting 10 in the morning Wednesday 30/9 2015)

"I'm ok with the whole 'petty Quasitor' thing, if anyone wants to know. Stuff like that will be unavoidable regardless of where I go and it doesn't even bother me all to much." Serge said before piping down and letting the adults speak.

Bruce just nodded at that and grunted.

"Fire. Fire everywhere. Terrible burning fire everywhere. At least that's how I imagined it." Serge said with a grin.

He grinned, "Oh, I hear it's just an absolute blast..."

"Well now that sounds...interesting."
The Orphan artificer said and grinned.
"That would make for good TV."

'Did not insult the Chief.' Nicole retorted. 'Merely pointing out the obvious; that he wouldn't have given me the nudge towards you lot if he thought I was useless, dangerous or untrustworthy.'

"No he would not be likely to have done so no."
Bruce said and frowned.
"Well so ar no one have called you useless Miss Bouchard."

(Colin's shop)

He nodded, "Let us hope so indeed. It'd be a shame after I offered him sanctuary, after all."

"Yes it would be most unfortunate."
Kristina agreed.

He took a few steps around the shop and made sure the circle was not immediately obvious from the shop floor itself, nodded in satisfaction, and assumed his position behind the register again, calling Jareth down to the counter before Ameli arrived.

Jareth landed on the counted, slid a bit on the glass and came to a stop, the hooted, then looked at the rings and other items under the glass on trays under the counter and turned his head completely around in confusion about how they could be there and be seen and yet glass prevented him from grabbing one and playing with it.

He nodded and gestured to the owl, "Mr. Ameli, it's a pleasure to meet you both at last; I am Colin Wainwright, and this feathered ball here is Jareth, a friend of mine from the woodland area.

Jareth hooted happily at being mentioned and the vampire smiled a little.
"Well he is a fine fellow."
He said and indicated the raven on his shoulder who where eying the owl with curiosity.
"This is Onyx my little friend."
He said and the raven cawed.

I am sorry I could not get back to you during the weekend, but we rather had a spot of bother to contend with - the Nephandi tried to unmake the world; very nearly succeeded, too...

"That is quite understandable Mr Wainwright."
The vampire said and nodded.

Mr Ameli took the box and examined it before opening it, he gave a content nod and put it into his jacket pocket.
"Thank you Mr Wainwright I am most grateful it looks better than new."
He said.
"I am in your dept, what can I do to repay your kindness?"
He added with another little bow.

"That might be most useful I do need to get out of town and to safety for a while though I believe it was your Nephandi who wanted my life, I am however not likely to be welcome here if others of my kind where to discover my presence."
He agreed though he sounded a bit reserved.

[Serge's Apartment]

Serge's Post:

'Denying the problem ain't solving it, simply dodging.' Nicole replied with a little smile, slipping on her glove and jacket.

Serge's Post:

'Yes... a mighty adventure which may cause the very death of us.' she quipped, giving a smirk. On his comment she halted, seeing if Serge was joking or not.

[Nicole's Apartment]

Colin's Post:

'Hmm...' she said absent-mindedly, unzipping the rucksack and pulling out a series of ribbon cables, wires and then a battered PDA which looked so "early 1990s".

'Meant what's up with her in general. Nobody really explained about that.'

Colin's Post:

'May simply be some surface dust picked up from crappy rounds.' the large woman replied, flipping open the PDA - clearly sporting a jury-rigged update and held together with glue and tape - and fired it up. 'Which is why I'm gonna check the barrel itself.'

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]
Nicole wrote:'Temper? This is just a "frank exchange of views".'
Colin nodded sagely, "And the yet, the volume rises. Granted, Adley has somewhat less control of that than most..."

Anja wrote:"Well now that sounds...interesting."

"That would make for good TV."
He grinned, "Pay-per-view, if the cameras survive."

Nicole wrote:'It's just that I'm worried about that this is promising to be one hell of a shit sandwich. Steep learning curve and all that.' Nicole replied, her concern apparently genuine.
He nodded, "More of a shitstorm, really, and it tries to hit the entire city. But right now, this Cabal is in the eye of the storm; we're far better positioned to shield our own than many others might be."

He pondered, "Well, this did have greater personal significance to you than to me, I suppose... Hmm, you are of Fey heritage, are you not? I'll admit to some academic curiosity in that regard... Do you know much about contacting the Fair Folk, and bartering safely with them? If so, a lesson on that is something I would consider ample repayment."

'Meant what's up with her in general. Nobody really explained about that.'
He smiled wryly, "That would depend on what you mean by 'in general'... but the short of it is that she was tricked into the Nephandi as a toddler, and the first time i met her, she was with another Fallen trying to abduct a child I was sent to rescue... so I shot her. Her companion botched the healing, so now Anna has a frail heart and lungs, and I am compelled to protect her from the worst fate, owing to a promise of mercy. Add to that that a future version of her visited just before the battle on Sunday, bringing proof that she will be able to restore her Avatar from its Fallen state - a miracle yet to happen - and, well, I've adopted her as my on daughter. Complicated enough for you yet?"

Nicole wrote:'May simply be some surface dust picked up from crappy rounds.' the large woman replied, flipping open the PDA - clearly sporting a jury-rigged update and held together with glue and tape - and fired it up. 'Which is why I'm gonna check the barrel itself.'
He nodded, "Ah, that's possible... I did get to test some unusual rounds last year at my usual gun club - thought I'd cleaned it properly after, though - those might've been it. Copper-jacketed tungsten core rounds; turned out to have less, hm, stopping power, but far higher penetration than what I would want in a handgun round."

[Adley, Colin, Nicole, Tane and Serge] (Cabal meeting 10 in the morning Wednesday 30/9 2015)

He grinned, "Pay-per-view, if the cameras survive."

"Primium cameras should do the trick."
Bruce said and grinned.

(Colin's shop)

He chuckled and gave Jareth a few strokes over the head, "Aw, are those tempting shinies being mean to you, hiding behind a transparent wall? ...I might see if I can't get you some jewelry of your own someday."

Jareth turned his head completely around the other way and looked at the glass and tapped at it with his claws clearly not understanding why he could not get at the pretty playthings under it.

He nodded to the raven, "Good evening, Onyx. I hope your digesting is not troubling you too much?"

Onyx flapped his wings a few times an cawed.
"He is better now that he have gotten medicine from the vet and his meat is cooked but I was worried there for a while."
The vampire said and frowned and he gently stroked his pet bird fondly.

Mr Ameli hesitated then he nodded.
"My bloodline are of fay heritage yes and I have had some dealings with the fay I can certainly give you such a lesson though I must warn you they are not the pretty thing seen in movies, well pretty they are but they can be dangerous and they are as alien to us as spirits are so unless you know how to act and behave things can get sticky rather quickly."
The vampire said as his raven jumped over to a shelf and sat there looking around.

He nodded, "The other vampiric factions are not too fond of yours, are they?

"No Mr Wainwright they are not."
Mr Ameli said and frowned.

Indeed, the Nephandi have been... dealt with, or at least the group thereof that was making trouble. There are always more of them, though, and some escaped justice in the battle. Some might try to seek you out for their own nefarious purposes yet..."

"The Nephandi...forgive me I do not know much about mages one of my allies had a mage contact some time ago and I heard mentioned they live in something called Labyrinths? Are these places frequently underground? For if so I suspect I know why they want me dead."
He said before wagging his finger at Onyx who had become very interested in a silver dessert bowl.

Little Moments Between Steptember and November, Meetings and Endings IC Thread 30 - Page 4 Empty Re: Little Moments Between Steptember and November, Meetings and Endings IC Thread 30

Post by Adley Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:36 pm

He read the note, arched an eyebrow, and noted down the name and contact information smoothly in a far more elegant scrawl before handing the slip of paper back.

He took the note back, read it twice to try to memorize it and took out his lighter out of his pocket. He muttered the phrase in Latin to remove any stray arcane connections on the man's shadow name as he set it on fire, his free hand passing over it with a combination of two gestures. It looked as if he needed to repeat it twice to get the spell to catch.

'Oh, the "everybody else is doing it, so should you" argument?' Nicole replied, arching an eyebrow. 'If I'm gonna expend energy in learning a language, it would he something useful like Chinese.'
'Latin ain't that useful in the Society. Anyway, that's his gig. Don't want to steal his thunder.' nodding towards Adley.

"Latin is also useful in the sciences, last I checked biology and medical sciences especially."

'Did not insult the Chief.' Nicole retorted. 'Merely pointing out the obvious; that he wouldn't have given me the nudge towards you lot if he thought I was useless, dangerous or untrustworthy.'

"We're not exploiting anyone! What the hell are you talking about? You act like we're trying to coerce him. This is not a shanghai. Even if he joined, he could leave." He glared at her. "Are you determined to take everything I say and turn it around, while backhandedly insulting me in the process? And no, I don't doubt my mentor's judgement, but he may not have had so many 'endearing' conversations with you as I have. Further, he may have another reason instead of 'throwing you under a bus to die.' Maybe he wanted us to keep an eye on you."

"I'm ok with the whole 'petty Quasitor' thing, if anyone wants to know. Stuff like that will be unavoidable regardless of where I go and it doesn't even bother me all to much." Serge said before piping down and letting the adults speak.

"Yes, actually we do want to know. And it's avoidable if you wish to avoid it, and it might become trouble for you. No one here is trying to understate that."

'Chip on my shoulder? Perhaps you should get off that high horse of yours. You talk all about being diplomatic and shit but you've seriously managed to put my back up which leads me to the conclusion your skills in that department are nothing to shout about.'

"If you think I'm on a high horse, it's because you've decided to ride a shorter one for some reason. There are plenty in the stable, please feel free to choose another steed. I've put /your/ back up? That's rich. I'm just giving you your own attitude back today, the one you've been giving me. Pretty much from day one you've done nothing but complain, bitch, and give attitude to me. The second you walked in the door, you didn't say hello, you said 'how long is this going to take' as if you couldn't be bothered to be here. I'm sick of it. "

'Go on, check with Smirnov. Or ask the Chief. I know you lot love doing backgrounds on folk. I stand on my previous. And from the sounds of it you're more likely to get me iced than the other way round.'

"We will check on your reference, it's actually a polite thing to do."

He nodded, "And debate over potential invitation aside, you would have been adequately briefed on the situation before you'd be asked to make the decision. The summary, though, should essentially cover all the pertinent points of contention."

"Who would win in a fight, Mr. Roth Hicks or Nicole? Now that's an interesting question...." Serge said with a tilt of his head before gaining inspiration and drawing another.
'Temper? This is just a "frank exchange of views".'

He scowled. "We are not alike," he said in a clipped tone.

"Dare I ask how House Flambeau do their House Meetings?"Bruce asked and raised an eyebrow.
"Fire. Fire everywhere. Terrible burning fire everywhere. At least that's how I imagined it." Serge said with a grin.

"A volley of formal duels, usually if anyone wishes to challenge the current House leader. I'm ready to vote," he said, having finally heard what Colin said a few moments before.

[Adley, Colin, Nicole, Tane and Serge] (Cabal meeting 10 in the morning Wednesday 30/9 2015)

Your spell was harder to do than usual, everything was harder than usual as pain made your brain foggy, but you managed eventually, you could feel reality obeying and removing the arcane connection o the Thig's Shadow Name before you burned the note, the spell was not elegant but it got the job done.

When you reached for the lighter though you noticed something, earlier in the day you had taken your brother to the nearby convenience store as Jeffry would not let him out of the Chantry alone, both for his own safety and because he technically speaking where a prisoner in addition to being an apprentice, Kyle had bought two candy bars, one for himself and the other for you and you had kept it in your pocket but now the chocolate where melted in it's paper wrapping and it was just soft, formless paste, your body temperature would not have done that, not for an outer garment, was this the first time where your magick had just happened the effect of your Resonance and knowledge, a lesser form of what your Mentor's anger did by nearby water and the temperature in the room? Had your anger melted the chocolate? In any case that candy bar needed a stay in the fridge before it could be eaten.

He brushed the ash off his fingers and then frowned. When he went to return the lighter to his pocket he pulled out the Hershey bar out and stared at it. It looked as if it had sat on the dashboard of his car in August. "Dammit, I was going to eat this on the way to work..." At least it hadn't leaked....

Colin wrote:Colin grinned, "I'm no Verbena either, and I speak to him just fine - he understands human speech quite well, he's just not able to speak it himself."

"Speaking with animals is weird. I've sorta done it with fish. They don't think in words. They think in emotions, and vague images. Wants and desires. Can't say I'm a fan....although owls might be a bit better." Serge said looking at his owl buddy who was now so far away.

Nicole wrote:'It's just that I'm worried about that this is promising to be one hell of a shit sandwich. Steep learning curve and all that.' Nicole replied, her concern apparently genuine.

"Yeah I can see that. Political and legal stuff is always hard to wrap your head around. When you mix in grudges and rivalries it can be quite dangerous in our world of wizards and warlocks." Serge said with a smile at Nicole's apparent concern. "But I've seen and read stuff like this time and time again. And I learn how to deal with things faster when I'm in the middle of everything experiencing it firsthand. I'll be fine."

Colin wrote:He nodded, "More of a shitstorm, really, and it tries to hit the entire city. But right now, this Cabal is in the eye of the storm; we're far better positioned to shield our own than many others might be."

"Ok that's interesting?" Serge said turning his head to look at Colin. "Why is it affecting the whole city? I thought this problem was only with you guys?"

Adley wrote:"Yes, actually we do want to know. And it's avoidable if you wish to avoid it, and it might become trouble for you. No one here is trying to understate that."

"If I avoid danger I'll never learn to deal with it and I'll just become lazy and of no use to anyone." Serge said with a shrug. "It sounds like you guys could use all the help you could get and I'm happy to assist in any way that I can. I've already helped out most of the people in this Cabal, so it's not that big of a change for me."

[Serge's Apartment]

'Denying the problem ain't solving it, simply dodging.' Nicole replied with a little smile, slipping on her glove and jacket.

"Eh, deny a problem long enough and it might fix itself or you'll simply not care about it which is a solution in and of itself." Serge said with a shrug having a good idea of what Nicole's reply would be. "I'm sticking with the burnt carpet example by the way. Probably wouldn't say the same to crushing student debt."

'Yes... a mighty adventure which may cause the very death of us.' she quipped, giving a smirk. On his comment she halted, seeing if Serge was joking or not.

"The best kind of adventure!" Serge said heroically as he marched out of the room. He looked back to see Nicole stopping and gave a confused look to her. "Why're you stopping? Come on! Adventure awaits!" he said gesturing wildly for Nicole to come out of the room. His cheerful manner made it difficult to figure whether his last statement had been genuine or not.

[Cabal Meeting]

Colin's Post:

Aldey's Post:

The large woman simply gave a shrug to this.

Colin's Post:

'So... a whole hamper of sandwiches for others, then? Goodie.' Nicole quipped.

Adley's Post:

Another non-committal gesture to this.

Adley's Post:

'Okay, let's drop this shit.' Nicole replied after absorbing Adley's outburst, putting her hands up. 'When I got here, treated you like everyone else, I have, and I don't think I've pissed off anyone else this much. And no, I've not been trying to either, before you ask.' clearly trying to be larger person in this, though was annoyed.

'Couldn't be bothered to be here? Well... if I wasn't, I wouldn't be. This was at no notice, and time is rather tight. You've spent all this time sniping, scowling and nit-picking. I called out your F in diplomacy skills when it became clear you've missed the point that a cabal is a two-way street - that it's "what can you offer me?" as well as "what I can offer you?". I've been around a bit, and when I notice it's all one-sided the word "exploitation" is bound to come up.'

'I think that's justified. As there's a fair fucking chance my end will be buying the rest of you time to get out of whatever shit position we've ended up in.' Once finished, she smoothed out her top, making it clear she was about to leave but was willing to listen to if anyone had anything in reply.

[Nicole's Apartment]

Colin's Post:

'I... see.' she finally replied, tone and face showing that her mind was finding it somewhat difficult to grasp.

Colin's Post:

'That's the problem... don't know automatically the quality of rounds. Just a couple could foul up the barrel...' Nicole said in an offhand manner, pressing a few keys on the PDA, hooking up a ribbon cable, then running what looked like a microphone across the barrel.

It looked as if it had sat on the dashboard of his car in August. "Dammit, I was going to eat this on the way to work..." At least it hadn't leaked....

Bruce raised an eyebrow.
"How did that happen Adley?"
He asked.

"Ok that's interesting?" Serge said turning his head to look at Colin. "Why is it affecting the whole city? I thought this problem was only with you guys?"

"If you had a corrupt DA in the sleeper legal system do you think that would not damage the entire district he or she had authority over? Why would it be different for us Mr Yager?"
Bruce said and he turned towards Serge to regard him for a moment.

Bruce gave an approving grunt to this.

Bruce outwardly did not show much emotion but those who knew him well could see that he was irritated.
"We are exploiting no one Miss Bouchard and what we can offer new members have already been said but let me make it clearer, an established Cabal with allot of contacts, you would not have to go at things alone or worse be thrown together with other newcomers and set to be the Chantry's Sentinels until someone would accept you. This Cabal have risked their asses several times or one another and we would do the same for any new members, a Cabal is family and that is what we are offering, so no we are not trying to hoodwink some new members to exploit them, we have put all the cards on the table, good and bad."
The Orphan said clearly feeling protective of his Cabal.
"Now etiquette do not matter to me, what quarrels you might have with Adley do not matter much to me either that is you two's business however when this Cabal is insulted that is my concern, if you do not wish us to vote on whatever or not to invite you to join then please say so, you might consider the bad outweigh the good or that there are members of this Cabal you can not work with, but do not claim we are trying to exploit you, for we are not."
He said and grunted with the effort and set about making another cracker with cheese.

(Nicole's room)

(OOC: Two sorceresses the barrel is damaged by wear and tear and the odd ammo that Colin had tried out had not helped much, it was repairable but it would require a fair bit of work and might never be as accurate as it was with that barrel even if repaired.)

[Cabal Meeting]

Anja's Post:

'I know that, and didn't intend to insult.' Nicole said to Bruce, giving a respectful nod. 'Yet when one literally says "your skills are easily replaceable", there's no good reason offered to persuade the person to join you all in the minefield and the main selling point is "you have nowhere else to go"... I think I'm allowed to be a little suspicious.'

'I've got an job interview in a bit. I've gotta convince the guy I'm worth employing. In return, he's gotta convince me his shop is a place worth working. He is unlikely to do it by saying my skills are easily replaced, the shop's a death-trap and nobody else would take me. That's what I mean by a "two-way street".' she said, clarifying her point. From tone and body, some may pick up that the Etherite was the sort of person who needed a concrete goal to aim and work towards.

Serge's Post:

'Taking the example too literally and too far, you are.' Nicole replied, rolling her eyes though with a smirk on her face.

Serge's Post:

A chuckle, then moved into the hallway itself. 'So, how are you finding Boston, then?' she asked casually, following the corridor.

Bruce said and he turned towards Serge to regard him for a moment.

"Well you got me there. Here I was expecting some sort of sinister plot to destroy the city." Serge said as his pencil scratched away on the surface of his notepad.

[Serge's Apartment]

A chuckle, then moved into the hallway itself. 'So, how are you finding Boston, then?' she asked casually, following the corridor.

"It's...well....different. I guess..." Serge said in an uncertain tone as he marched alongside Nicole. "Only been here for a few months. The people I've met have been nice so far. But I haven't seen much of the city yet. I'm much more of an indoors guy."

Glancing to the side  at the Etherite, Serge returned the question. "How about you? I think you've been here longer than I have right? How are you finding Boston and the new Chantry?"

[Cabal Meeting, 10 AM, Wednesday September 30th]
Jeremy wrote:"Speaking with animals is weird. I've sorta done it with fish. They don't think in words. They think in emotions, and vague images. Wants and desires. Can't say I'm a fan....although owls might be a bit better." Serge said looking at his owl buddy who was now so far away.
Colin smiled wryly, "I've been telepathically linked with a great polyp... I know exactly what you mean."

Jeremy wrote:"Ok that's interesting?" Serge said turning his head to look at Colin. "Why is it affecting the whole city? I thought this problem was only with you guys?"
Nicole wrote:'So... a whole hamper of sandwiches for others, then? Goodie.' Nicole quipped.
Anja wrote:"If you had a corrupt DA in the sleeper legal system do you think that would not damage the entire district he or she had authority over? Why would it be different for us Mr Yager?"
Bruce said and he turned towards Serge to regard him for a moment.
He nodded to Bruce, "What he said, essentially. There's a rot in the system, and it must be uprooted, but we have to be careful until we are able to strike."

"Well you got me there. Here I was expecting some sort of sinister plot to destroy the city." Serge said as his pencil scratched away on the surface of his notepad.
He smiled wryly, "No, that was what we sorted out today. Well, plot to destroy the world, really. Now, the real uphill battle begins..."

S7trif3 wrote:He scowled. "We are not alike," he said in a clipped tone.
He smiled thinly, "So you say."

Jeremy wrote:"If I avoid danger I'll never learn to deal with it and I'll just become lazy and of no use to anyone." Serge said with a shrug. "It sounds like you guys could use all the help you could get and I'm happy to assist in any way that I can. I've already helped out most of the people in this Cabal, so it's not that big of a change for me."
He nodded, "And that is greatly to your credit. And we in turn are ready to give you whatever support and assistance you need."

Anja wrote:Bruce outwardly did not show much emotion but those who knew him well could see that he was irritated.

From tone and body, some may pick up that the Etherite was the sort of person who needed a concrete goal to aim and work towards.
He made a few more notes and nodded, "Very well, then. Let us put the formal invitation of Nicole Bouchard to join our Cabal to the vote. Simple show of hands; all in favour, raise a hand."
He raised his hand, glancing around the table.

[Colin's shop, Monday, September 28th, 8 PM]
Anja wrote:Onyx flapped his wings a few times an cawed.
"He is better now that he have gotten medicine from the vet and his meat is cooked but I was worried there for a while."
The vampire said and frowned and he gently stroked his pet bird fondly.
He smiled warmly, "You know, your caring for an animal like that speaks volumes about your character."

Anja wrote:Mr Ameli hesitated then he nodded.
He nodded, "And that is precisely what I wish to learn more about - not necessarily seeking them out, but how to ensure my own safety in dealing with them, without having to rely on a chunk of iron. I have... some insights from fairy tales and folklore, but the grains of truth are often hard to pick out of the embellishments."

Anja wrote:"The Nephandi...forgive me I do not know much about mages one of my allies had a mage contact some time ago and I heard mentioned they live in something called Labyrinths? Are these places frequently underground? For if so I suspect I know why they want me dead."
He said before wagging his finger at Onyx who had become very interested in a silver dessert bowl.
He nodded, "In another timeline, I had managed to persuade you to aid us in the strike on the Labyrinth, in exchange for the return of your blade. That alliance never happened, obviously, but we managed to navigate the passageways by other means. As for being underground - that varies; mostly, they're hidden away slightly outside the Reality we are in right now. Pocket dimensions, that sort of thing."

[Nicole's apartment, 7PM Thursday, October 1st]
Nicole wrote:'I... see.' she finally replied, tone and face showing that her mind was finding it somewhat difficult to grasp.
He grinned wryly, "I can see you don't - but that's alright. The important thing is, she is safe, and she'll have every opportunity to grow and thrive, and restore her potential for the Light."

Nicole wrote:'That's the problem... don't know automatically the quality of rounds. Just a couple could foul up the barrel...' Nicole said in an offhand manner, pressing a few keys on the PDA, hooking up a ribbon cable, then running what looked like a microphone across the barrel.
He nodded, "Quite; and the powder composition plays into it, too, right? If the barrel's shot, though, at least that can be replaced..."
