Colin sighed, "It's a larger, complicated world you are about to step into, Tamara... Normally, you would have been sheltered from it, but little Egypt makes that no longer possible, I'm afraid. Tian... was pressured to quite literally sell his soul to spare his teacher from torture.

"I do not understand...his soul...as in his metaphysical soul? I can not believe such a thing? I mean I went to Sunday school but I am not religious or anything."
Tamara said and sigh.
"But that Tian would sacrifice himself to save another, that I will believe."

He's still a good kid, but he has not been treated well.

"I have seen him come to visit Egypt with bruises on more than one occasion, he always made up some excuse about a bar fight or something like that, but it always made me wonder if he was involved with something...with someone who was not treating him right..."
Tamara muttered.

As for being an accomplice, I don't think so. If anything, you'd be considered an abduction victim at most; the only significant difference being whether the subjectively good guys - me and my faction - or the objectively bad guys - the ones with whom Tian is in trouble now - reached you first."

"I am not so sure the police will see it that way so...let us not get caught..."
Tamara muttered fearfully.
"And factions? Factions of what, are Tian mixed in with some sort of organized crime or something? And what are the thing that happens around him? That defy logic? What is going on?"
The scared young woman demanded as she followed you.

He grimaced, "Nephandus, maybe fourteen or fifteen... but quite clearly sold on their cause. Tamara... I'm an RAF war veteran; one of the things I have been very well taught is to avoid violence if a better solution is at hand, but to execute the necessary course of action as completely and swiftly as possible. That girl was... to put it this way, how old does a child soldier have to be to fire a gun or throw a grenade? That's the sort of people we are up against; they have no hesitation to put brainwashed children on the front line, no second thoughts about kidnapping a little girl to pressure her father into killing and spying for them, and they are out to destroy everything. I... had no good options at that point whatsoever. Shooting her was merely... the least awful."

"A what now? Someone maliciously naughty?"
Tamara asked and looked confused then she sigh.
"I know a teenager can be dangerous if they need to be, and especially if they are fighting for some cause or another, but where there really no other way, if that girl was involved with the mob or something could she not have been left for the police and they could get her some help, gotten her out of it?"
Tamara protested she did give her little daughter a concerned look when you spoke about someone kidnapping and using her to get a grip on her father. Little Egypt though seamed oblivious to the danger she was in, she was stretching so she could just barely look out of the window and then waved at something outside.
"Look mama angels..."
She said and Tamara sigh.
"How lovely sweetie."
She said then looked at you.
"Kids and their imaginations eh..."
She muttered still rather shook up from what she had seen and not knowing who or what she should believe.

He nodded grimly to the phone, "I didn't have the luxury of lingering at the scene. As it is... I doubt the Union will get to her, either. To be honest, I don't think she could last until the paramedics arrive...

"Well we need to make sure, I guess I will send someone to the hospitals near by in case the Nephandus survived, at least this one will not be fighting for Abigail for a while in either case."
Joakim said darkly.
"A captured Nephandus is better than a dead one but a dead one is far preferable one one that is alive and kicking and working on destroying the world."

We should meet you at the garage in... a little over twenty-five minutes, I think? You may have to, ah, explain the whole of the situation to the mother then."

Mark nodded at your twenty five minutes estimation. The Security Chief sigh.
"Ah yes that will be a fun talk, well at least the pair is safe, stay careful."
He said.
"Anything else?"

Colin nodded, "There are more things between Heaven and Earth, Horatio... you'll get a better explanation in less than half an hour; there are... specifics with which i am less familiar than I should like."
He sighed, whispering, "Not so much organized crime, as a group dedicated to the literal end of the world..."

He leaned back in the seat, smiling wryly, "The problem was that they were following me, obviously meaning to take me out and then come for you. I was outnumbered, and had I not, well... like I said, I was out of good options."
He froze, "Egypt... what do the angels look like?"

He looked warily outside, "Yes... one other thing. Did you send an angelic escort? The child sees some..."

Colin nodded, "There are more things between Heaven and Earth, Horatio... you'll get a better explanation in less than half an hour; there are... specifics with which i am less familiar than I should like."

"I guess I will have to be patient Mr...? But I do not like this."
Tamara said and sigh, indeed she did not like the situation one bit.

He sighed, whispering, "Not so much organized crime, as a group dedicated to the literal end of the world..."

"The end of the world? I do not understand? How could they do that? Atom bombs or something? And what would they have to gain from that...this is all sounding crazy."
The young woman exclaimed.

He leaned back in the seat, smiling wryly, "The problem was that they were following me, obviously meaning to take me out and then come for you. I was outnumbered, and had I not, well... like I said, I was out of good options."

"I understand that you where out of options Sir...I just do not like the situation, I do not like that a kid was shot and possibly killed to get us out of there."
Tamara said and her voice was shaking.
"Nothing about this is right!"

He froze, "Egypt... what do the angels look like?"

"They are all white and I can see things through them and they have big teeth."
The little girl said and she giggled and continued waving to whatever she was seeing completely unafraid of whatever was outside of the car.

He looked warily outside, "Yes... one other thing. Did you send an angelic escort? The child sees some..."

"No I did not, and besides actual angels are powerful Umbroods, probably she is seeing something else and there is always plenty of spirits around but...be on your guard, we are not the only faction that deal with Umbroods."
Joakim warned.

He grimaced, "They are a doomsday cult - simplest explanation."
He nodded, "Indeed, nothing about this is right... Well, actually, we can help you and Egypt be safe; that at least is right."
He glanced bakc at Egypt, "Are they following us, or just hanging out in the street?"

He grimaced at the phone, "White, transparent and big teeth - sound like something known to casually linger in this part of town?"

"Oh well that is just perfect."
Tamara exclaimed.
"Are you saying that Tian, the father of my child is involved in a doomsday cult?"

He nodded, "Indeed, nothing about this is right... Well, actually, we can help you and Egypt be safe; that at least is right."

"Yes...keeping Egypt safe would be right."
The young mother said and smiled a little.

He glanced bakc at Egypt, "Are they following us, or just hanging out in the street?"

"They are following us Sir...they like us."
The little girl said joyfully.

He grimaced at the phone, "White, transparent and big teeth - sound like something known to casually linger in this part of town?"

"I have not seen exactly that before but you would be surprised at what moves around in the spirit world, just to be safe though try to avoid them, do you have any means to banish them?"

Colin sighed, "I'm saying he's been trapped in one since he was a kid... and just escaped. That's why the two of you were suddenly in danger - if the Nephandi had caught you, I would guess you would have been tortured and eventually killed to bait Tian back and pressure Egypt into joining them..."

He glanced out of the window, "I don't know if Mr. Jennings knows of any such trick, but the best I can do is to... scramble the signal a little; make us more difficult to pinpoint. I don't know whether that will work on spirits, though. However, by the descriptions, they're not puppeteered monstrosities, so there's a chance they're just curious... hold on a moment..."
He looked back at Egypt, "Sweetie, do you think you could wish those angels not to follow us anymore?"

"There is little advice to give...in the matter but as there is little time for that, be prepared for just about any reaction, including a physical one, and try to stay on top of it."

"As I suspected." Of course, what if it was his avatar that wasn't calm...well, it was hard to prepare for the unknown. He would just have to see what happened and keep his feet on the path.

"I will increase security for you Cabalmate and brother as well, just to be sure."

"Good."

"I will try to convince my little friend then while you work on things in your end, you should probably inform someone at Morningstar that you are expecting a spirit messenger from me so no one see him as hostile and try to take him down."

"Good idea, is there a way that might make it safer for him to get to here and not have a hostile entity sneak in with him or should I take that up on this end?"

Tamara asked sounding shocked, she glanced at the little girl to make sure she was not getting upset by the conversation but the child was still looking out the car window and giggling.
"Poor Tian being trapped into all that."
She muttered softly.
"But he just do not seam like the cult type...he is kind and sensitive..."

He glanced out of the window, "I don't know if Mr. Jennings knows of any such trick, but the best I can do is to... scramble the signal a little; make us more difficult to pinpoint. Joakim said then he sigh. Mark just shook his head from where he sat next to you driving the car. The Security Chief continued.
"Try scrambling the signal as you call it perhaps that will help and let us hope that indeed these spirits you have encountered are just noticing that the little girl can see them so they are curious about her, indeed let us hope it is something innocent like that going on."

He looked back at Egypt, "Sweetie, do you think you could wish those angels not to follow us anymore?"

"No that never works, I can see angels but they never listen to my wishes."
The little girl said and shook her head.
"But they are very pretty Sir, can you see them?"

Adley:

The old Flambeau said there was nothing more he could say to prepare you, he had to just hope that everything would work out for the best.

"You will probably have to take that up in your end, see if they can lower the wards for one specific entity while not allowing in any other. Do you know the name of Poodle mea filius? I do not want to speak it over the phone but you have interacted with my imps since you where a student."
And indeed you had as you mentor had felt that learning to summon and see Umbroods with his bellowed little pets where the safest way to start.
"If no such exception for him can be made then let me know and I will ask a certain someone who can do the most odd things with spirits and computers, I have no idea how she do it but apparently she can send them as a file..."
Your Mentor gave a deep sigh at that.
"I am never going to understand technomagick but it might make it possible for her to target your phone and not let anything else in, but I am very skeptical about letting anyone use a computer on my little friends so see if there is any other solutions first."

He frowned, "Right... Could you get Adley to meet us at... some suitable location between us and you?"
He glanced over at Mark, "Quick, pick a good, secluded spot before I risk impeding the signal, just in case..."

He smiled back at Egypt, "No, I can't... but I have a friend who can, and with luck, I can get him to meet us before the safe spot to speak with those angels."
He looked up at Tamara, "Those angels she mentioned... they're quite real, except they're probably not biblical angels. Most likely they are, well, perfectly mundane spirits; about as aggressive and dangerous as a sedated kitten, but sometimes they can be quite aggressive. Some can cause mysterious incidents - unexplained fires, animals suddenly going berserk for no reason, and so on. Mostly, though, they're just there, noticing us no more than we notice them."

"If I have your leave to use it, then I shall work something out while trying to keep it close," he agreed. He would not have done so on his own accord, except in an extreme emergency only.

"If no such exception for him can be made then let me know ...I am very skeptical about letting anyone use a computer on my little friends so see if there is any other solutions first."

He smiled a little at his pater's consternation over emailing him a spirit. It was a very odd thing to him as well, but possibly not weirder than storing macaroni and cheese in a cellphone to eat later, not that he had any idea how that had been managed either. He wondered what Poodle would thing of such a sending. But besides, he'd rather keep things simple as he could, with as few people involved as he could. "Very well. I have nothing else yet to say, let me go arrange this so we can continue with the rest of the affairs," he said. He ticked off mentally what to do: figure out the ward situation, send the rest of the intelligence report and arrangements for Tyler's childer, get the documents from Tyler home safely, work out a plan to remove Carmon from the Nephandi...then there was the rest, destroying the Labyrinths, preventing the Aswadim...protecting Chicago and Boston, his home, his friends and family. The part of him that would have complained over the long night and day ahead had perished in the fire of his last seeking; instead he was ready to move to the next group of tasks that needed attention before something else turned up in the wake of this one.

I was pointed to one in particular, so don't worry. Anyway you want it, i'm not fond of cars, pollute too much... but if we need to run quickly, it would help.

Tamara nodded at that, you could see the worry and concern in her eyes though, what you where saying where rather strange to her ears, and it terrified her.

He frowned, "Right... Could you get Adley to meet us at... some suitable location between us and you?"

"I can do that."
Joakim said.
"I will let him know as soon as we hang up on this call."

He glanced over at Mark, "Quick, pick a good, secluded spot before I risk impeding the signal, just in case..."

Mark nodded he drove for some time longer then he found a small parking lot in front of a closed supermarket, no one was there right now so the place was fairly secluded and he stopped the car.
"Will this do?"
He asked.

He smiled back at Egypt, "No, I can't... but I have a friend who can, and with luck, I can get him to meet us before the safe spot to speak with those angels."

The little girl's smile grew even wider and she nodded.
"Your friend can see angels..."
She repeated happily.

"Wait, wait, wait...you are telling me there exist spirits now? Real honest to god, crystal weaving, new age bullshit spirits? And Egypt can see them?"
Tamara said and looked at you dumbfounded.
"Well have strange things been happening around my daughter and her father Mr...ehm you have never given me your name...but you can not expect me to believe in, spirits..."
The young mother said looking wide eyed at you.

Adley:

Your Mentor said in a serious tone of voice.

"Very well. I have nothing else yet to say, let me go arrange this so we can continue with the rest of the affairs,"

"Very well I will go and prepare my imp and you can send him back to me with the sensitive information."
Jeffry said.
"Until then mea filius."
He said before he hung up on the call.

Once you are done with the call you notice you have gotten a text message from Tyler it simply read.
"My son and daughter, foolish as they are through they make me proud choose to stay and fight and refuse to flee, my grandchilde though is young and inexperienced and unlikely to make it on his own and choose to accept your hospitality until things calms down."

About half an hour after your talk with your Mentor, probably after you had gotten quite a few other things done you get a text message from Chief Joakim saying.
"Your Cabalmate needs help with a spirit that is following him and his party, do you have any opportunity to assist him?"

(OOC: Just to get that message about Colin's spirit problems out of the way though that happens about half an hour after Adley hangs up the call with Jeffry so I do assume he have a few things to do before he get that message.)

"I would love to move out but being sixteen I have to do what my mother says for two more years and I doubt she would be happy if I dropped out of school and moved away."
Lily said and sigh.
"Yeah, I have no idea what static means but from how it sounds there will be allot of that at my place, think keeping up appearances and enforced normality."
She grumbled.

Saturday:

"We might as well take the bus to avoid the chance a car will get stolen. I do not own a car myself I really can not justify the expense, I can get around the city easily by bus and if I need to go for a longer trip I can always rent a car."
Henrietta said and she begun to walk out of the Chantry.
"I am sure we can find a way to run away from trouble, or face it, and like you said, there is no need to pollute more than we have to, it do seams like I have gotten rather environmentally conscious after living with a Ghural for so long."
She said and grinned.

[Adley]

"I understand."

"Good luck." He ended the call and then extinguished the candle's flame, minding the wick to stop the rote. It was a handy thing, no doubt it would see him through several uses and spare him the threat of paradox if something went off out of sheer uses of magick alone. For the moment he put it away. As he went  to contact Joakim regarding the ward, he saw the message from Tyler and nodded to himself. He'd add that to the message and also tell Joakim that they would soon be ready to delve into what to do about Carmon. Then call her back to get the details and get her childer taken care of as soon as they could, as well as take care of those documents. But first, he texted Joakim: 'Can we talk in private where you last saw me?

you get a text message from Chief Joakim saying...'Your Cabalmate needs help with a spirit that is following him and his party, do you have any opportunity to assist him?"

"Oh, wonderful..." He sighed. As much as he hoped it was something non-hostile, one could not be sure. He replied, 'where are you?he asked, not wanting to give details over the phone.

You get a reply back from Joakim.
"I will be right down."
A few minutes later the old hedge wizard opened the door to the private little ritual room, after all it was the place where he had last seen you.
"Yes, what can I do for you?"
He asked as he entered the room.
"Did your call go well?"

Later:

"I am at my office."
Came the reply from Joakim, at least this old Flambeau had embraced technology better than your Mentor and did not write messages as if they where letters.

(OOC: Yeah let us hope we get things synced up rather quickly but I am sure it should be ok, in a play by post at times you will get things a bit out of sync.)

He pondered, "Spirits are quite real... Rather a lot like bureaucrats; have you ever seen one working?"
He grinned and fished out his wand, flicking it about in short, jerky movements close to his chest, just out of Tamara's field of vision, and tapped it against the car door, quietly repeating the scrambling spell he'd come up with when they were pursued by vampires or ghouls earlier, gritting his teeth against the impressive itchy sensation...

He grinned and fished out his wand, flicking it about in short, jerky movements close to his chest, just out of Tamara's field of vision, and tapped it against the car door, quietly repeating the scrambling spell he'd come up with when they were pursued by vampires or ghouls earlier, gritting his teeth against the impressive itchy sensation...

You feel your magick clicking into place as it where and you are pretty sure the effect was working, an assumption that got stronger when you heard Egypt said.
"Aww the angels can't see us...one of them have gone to tell his friends though."
The little girl said sounding quite disappointed.
"Mama if they follow us home can I keep them?"
Egypt asked and Tamara looked a bit confused and uncertain.
"We well, we are going to have to talk about that later honey."
She muttered, she did not believe in spirits but with everything that was going on, could she really be sure they where not real?

Colin smiled, "I know they are real, much like I know gravity is real - I can't really see it, but I can see its effects. Well, I have in fact seen a manifested spirit; a fire spirit. Very feminine in appearance, very... well, she's a sentient flame; I'm sure you can imagine what she looked like."
He paled a bit, "One went to... bugger, Mark, get us out of here. I'll try to reach Adley once we've got a little bit of distance."
He tapped out a message to Adley, "Change of plan - stay away! Cloaked, but one went for reinforcements; getting out now!"
Then he carefully watched to see if the message could get through...

Colin smiled, "I know they are real, much like I know gravity is real - I can't really see it, but I can see its effects. Well, I have in fact seen a manifested spirit; a fire spirit. Very feminine in appearance, very... well, she's a sentient flame; I'm sure you can imagine what she looked like."

Tamara looked at you as if you where insane.
"You saw a what?"
She asked and she did not look like she believed you.
"And you are sure you where not drunk at the time? If you permit me to ask Mr Wainwright."

He paled a bit, "One went to... bugger, Mark, get us out of here. I'll try to reach Adley once we've got a little bit of distance."

Mark just nodded and hit the gas.
"I do not like this."
He muttered.
"I do not want to meet whoever friends Egypt's angel brings back."
He muttered as he drove towards the North as some speed.
"Yes do try to reach your Cabalmate perhaps he can help, do he study Spirit?"

He tapped out a message to Adley, "Change of plan - stay away! Cloaked, but one went for reinforcements; getting out now!"
Then he carefully watched to see if the message could get through...

Your message got through but you are not so sure you can receive one in return as that would be blocked by your scrambling.

Adley: Shortly after you get the message from Chief Joakim about Colin needing help you get the above message from your Cabalmate on your phone.

"No you are right about that Mr Wainwright, this is not an easy claim for me to just believe out of the blue, but yes whatever faith you have is cool with me though, but you think that Egypt is seeing the same being that you claim to have seen?"
Tamara asked, she looked rather skeptical.

He nodded to Mark, "Agreed, hence why we're peeling out now instead of waiting. If they can't see us, they'll not follow, but instead guard the last spot they saw us...

Mark nodded as he took another turn.
"I agree with your logic Mr Wainwrigh...so where to? Before we know if we are followed continuing towards the Chantry might be risky, I do not want to bring anything bad to Morningstar."

Egypt will let us know if they start following us again, won't you, sweetie? And yes, my Cabalmate is a pretty steady hand with that aspect. He'll not be coming here now, though - take three detours and head straight home at best speed if we're still not pursued."

Egypt nodded she strained to see out the window.
"In Mama's car, I have my own seat so I can see...it is pink."
She said happily. Mark looked a bit doubtful.

Go about a mile in one direction before turning, and so on; that should be enough to know whether we are followed still..."

Tamara said she glanced at her daughter.
"Are you sure she is not seeing an imaginary friend? I mean see is three year old and she already have one of those, imaginary friends I mean, she speaks about an albino peacock with silver feathers that sit on her bed and watch her when she go to sleep, are you sure it is not something like that?"
The woman asked and Egypt protested.
"The Birdie is real Mama...he lives inside of me."

Mark nodded as he took a turn onto a quiet side street.
"As you wish, I will try and we will see if we have actually shaken them."
He said but he still seamed rather concerned.
"I do not see the angels...do you think they will come back?"
Egypt said and seamed sad that her spirit friends where gone.

A few minutes later the old hedge wizard opened the door to the private little ritual room, after all it was the place where he had last seen you. "Yes, what can I do for you?" He asked as he entered the room. "Did your call go well?"

"Yes, thank you. Your apprentice's candle working is most useful. Though I have a few things that we are following up on," he said, giving him a short bow and then made a gesture towards the door for him to come inside the ward and close it so they would have some privacy. Once he was reasonably sure they were alone again he continued. "My pater would like to send one of his messengers but of course the chantry's wards would sound an alarm over him. Is there a way that we can allow just this one spirit can arrive and leave with his message without compromising security?"

"I am at my office." Came the reply from Joakim...

He tapped out a message to Adley, "Change of plan - stay away! Cloaked, but one went for reinforcements; getting out now!"

Adley headed quickly over to the office and double speed and knocked on the door to be let in. As he stood there he got the message from Colin. His brow furrowed as he read it over and then stepped into the office if he was let in to talk to the Chief about what trouble his amicus had found himself into now.

Joakim gave a bit of a proud smile when you praised his apprentice's working and nodded, he then quickly came into the small ritual chamber and closed the door behind him.
"Very well, and I am glad the candle spell is working as intentional, Derrick usually do a pretty good job, I am quite proud of him, if I may say so myself."
He said then he turned to Adley.
"Very well let me hear it."

"Hum...yes that should not be a problem. I would have loved to have an Aegis here but the non Hermetic members of the Deacon Council voted it down, you know how it is, the other Traditions think we are power grabbing."
Joakim said and sigh.
"Well in either case we have a ward that is being controlled by our spirit Guardian, with your messenger's name he can be asked to let this one spirit through."
The hedge wizard informed you.
"That should not make our wards any less effective."

Joakim opened the door to let a pretty girl with long auburn hair and wearing a classy blue knee length dress out and then let you in, the girl gave you a polite nod as she passed you. The Security Chief closed the door behind you.
"The emissaries from Lavender is here."
He said to briefly explain the pretty young woman in his office.
"That was the apprentice of their Deacon Primus...anyway you are here about the troubles Mr Wainwright are having? Hopefully he can get out of them himself but I have to admit that I am worried."
