Tane Karyak

Appearence: over 1,60 m broad shoulders, long hair normally in a bum that gets loose at the end. Has ritual tatoos all over his body, many of them being Foci to special types of practices. Black eyes, big mouth, robust hands and muscular. Tends to talk plainly and with a calmed, deep voice.

Personality: Tends to be kind and comprehensive, almost fatherly with the ones he chooses to protect, and cold, vengeful and almost fanatic against people he sees as the enemy. He strives to protect the ones that can't do it by themselves and belives in justice as a force of nature.
He is never easily convinced and has a tender spot for animals, although not always (not even him knows on what that depends on).

Paradigm: He belives that a good song, a fine story, a little piece of poetry can touch and resound on a person's very soul, making storytelling the best way to channel magick. IN fact, many traditional Maorí songs are some sort of sorcerer magick to give the performer strenght and resistence or to lead the dead to the other world, and his paradigm is impregnated on it. Along with songs and poetry, there is power in tatoos and herbal remedies, blood and life. Quintessence flows in every way you belive it does, and the existence depends only on your point of view.

((sorry to cut in here, but i actually play a dreamspeaker vigilante in another game ....He ended up making a cult worshipping a corrupted dog spirit that became a patron of victims...they fed their victimisers to him.....Well positive thing is that the city lost a lot of crime and the spirit got 17 people who have him as a personal totem....so he is growing in power fast ))

Ah and this is why we love Mage. I think Jeffry might be a bit upset at any Chantry member feeding sleepers to dog spirits in this game though, Technocrats though, those you can feed to anything you want.

Ok I have written a short intro for Tane, we will start with him arriving at the Chantry and asking to become a member. I hope I will get a few paragraphs of background soon though so I have something to work with.

Tane Karyak was born in New Zealand, in a fishing comunity. His father was the aduana agent, and his mother was one of the last shamaneses of his people.
They all were Maories, and her mother preserved quite hardly old traditions because that was her legacy.
Tane grew as an odd kid, but he was never "corrected" by his parents. In fact, his mother saw many signs on him that made her think he was going to be a shaman just like her, so she let him be because she knew that exploring was the only way to develop his capabilities.
He grew up with little parental control, but quietly supervised by his mother.

When he was five, he sensed the need to go to the aquarium because he knew something was going to happen. Enough had been said to her mother, so she took him to the aquarium, where he saw many tanks with many animals, but soon one called his attention: the sharks. His ancestors respected the sharks as totems of hunters and warriors, and they sneaked to get to feed the sharks with a little help from a low paid guard.

From over the tank they saw a lady shark giving birth to a baby, and how she turned into a girl for a moment to rest from swimming after the delivery inside the tank. They were amazed and the caregivers paid off to don't be there, so that was what he sensed: the way a shark-man was given birth. In that moment, Tane understood that his world wasn't what he thought, and that, somehow, he was meant to do something with it. Right in that moment, while the lady shark was still in labor, he awakened.

At that moment he saw his avatar: Gandjya (read Gandiya) a humanoid figure made out of white light that had two big black eyes in his face but nothing else. This being alien-looking talked in a calmed double voice and when it did, all it's face but the eyes dyed of colours, showing it's feelings. Red for angry, grey for hunger, green for disgust, violet for doubt, yellow for joy and blue to be thoughtful.

Tane was the only one that could hear him or see him, and that made him feel special. Her mother noticed it and found out that this Gandjya was not an imaginary friend (he could ask it to scout places he couldn't see, or to hear things when he was sleep) but didn't behave like a spirit.
When Tane was 8 she took him to the nearest chaman, an old mage of the Kopa Loei who found the boy was a mage of interesting spiritual capacities. As he was interesting and soon his little games with magic would probe to start being dangerous, he took Tane as his apprentice.

With master Kunyak's guide, the boy started developing his first conceptions of magic and had his firsts quest. As he did this, he got inside the spiritual world more and more, and started spending time in the other world just listening at what the spirit wanted to say. When he digged out he found the spirit of a dead hero of whom he had only heard legends about. This hero has been trapped in the other world by a bad spirit and he now couldn't follow his quest to bring justice on the world. The spirit offered him his sword to be withdrawn from the spirit world to the material world if he would take his place. Tane, blindly, accepted.
Since then he has had to watch out for evil deeds and punish them in any way he could.

Tane kept visiting the aquarium to meet the little sharkman and his mother. As the shark grew, he became frinds with the mother, who told him she was a Rokea, the oldest changing breed, and that she'd been captured by fishermen some years ago.
When the little shark made his first change, Tane brought clothes and helped them scape. Once free, he could visit them at the bay and befriended the whole Rokea community.

Using his communications with the spirits he listened many stories that he started adapting into "fairy tales" for children. With that he started publishing books of fairy tales, but what he liked the most was storytelling, which he did in the best way he could: in the radio.
He started a show where he would tell stories for children and adults, he'd talk about cultural news and invited other authors to chat on their work and tell a short story off their work.

Yes we do, I am open to suggestions, a 3 dot artifact can be quite powerful.

I want to spend 18 to get Life 2, 5 to get brawl 2 and 5 to get law 2. I'd have 1 PX left. Would it be ok?

Brawl and Law is no problem at all he hae been doing enough things to justify getting better there. As for suddenly getting Life 2 that you will have to justify for me how he suddenly get this understanding or we can add something in game to set it up, magickal knowledge usually do not suddenly appear out of nowhere but we can work with it or set something to gie Tane the understanding up.

He can just try to use up his knowledge of spirits and songs to affect living tissue (maybe learning to sing to the flesh as he sings to the soul). I think he has been studying avatars enough as to develop ways to flex his paradigm to heal, twist and understand living stuff, but if you feel i need more, then maybe we could get something else in the fiction.

Very well that works. I will set up a situation in the game where Tane can come to such a realisation and by that gain knowledge in Life.
