Colin grinned wryly, "I meant back from Chicago, not back from visiting Deaconess Darnell."

"Even so...ah damn, one more thing. Tian's family, we need to get them somewhere safe. We were given a story to relate, so they would know we'd talked to him...possibly so they might know it was not under duress and that they should trust us."

He nodded. "Probably easier than what I was thinking...so, take out the legs, or hit them in the head. Very well."

Isabella nodded at that.
"It usually works Sir."

"That is what we think happened, but it is not the whole of the why of it, I am sure. However, let us find out more first and if we need to discuss more later..."

"Very well, there is little point in speculating at this point."
Joakim said and nodded.

"That sounds very good sir."

"Very well, I will let you know what he had to say when we meet up again."

"Thank you, perhaps you and Colin might do so, unless my cabalmate has other things to attend to at the moment," he said, looking over at him to see if he was agreeable.

Isabella nodded at that before she glanced over at Colin.

"Master Porthos may have a valid point. At any rate, I digress. Excuse me."

"He might indeed have a valid point...but yes it is a discussion for another time."
The Security Chief said and nodded.

Colin nodded, "We know what happened, and a few more details than that, but... for now, discretion is the better part of valor. It's a nasty little hornet's nest, and we don't have everything yet."

Joakim looks at Colin.
"Hum..."
Was all he said but he did not look pleased, he did not inquire further about it either though, not right now at least.

He smiled to Isabella, "It's a hypothesis to be weighed by more learned individuals than myself."

The vampiress gave a little smile.
"Well I guess it is not important at the moment either Sir, the only thing important right now is that beheading works on my kind, not why it works."

He nodded, "I would gladly attend the Orphans, however, if I am to visit Deaconess Darnell, I'd think I am rather in a hurry. Could I requisition a driver to get me there, since I don't know the address? I expect that if Lady Crexia and miss Mirri are keeping an eye on them, that would be more than adequate, actually - I know of few people who are quicker with a spell than a chef is with a knife."

"I am sure Miri will be able to keep and eye on our guest and I do not expect trouble from them, and if Miss Jarden helps out as well that should be enough."
Joakim agreed.
"Yes getting over to Chantry Flamingo, yes for some reason Miss Darnell called it so, needs to be done at some speed, if you just go to the dining hall there are usually someone there and say that I sent you, then you should be able to find someone to drive you Mr Wainwright."

He shook his head, "I took no offense. My scars are a badge of honour, in many ways; I saved three good people that day. Four if you count me. The mental injuries I suffered have been healed, and those scars remain with me, as well..."

Joakim nodded at that, he looks at Colin for a moment before he speaks.
"You did a good thing Mr Wainwright, you should be proud of it, and I am glad that your mental injuries have been healed, often those are worse things to carry around than physical scars."
The hedge wizard said softly.

He tapped his temple, "The scars on my face make my face less... flexible. The scars in my mind, well... I might have lost my ability to hate along with the trauma of the explosion. It... makes me perhaps less than human in some ways, though not necessarily in a bad way. I'd really not want to know what Abigail's scars took from her..."

"Well hate is not always the most useful emotion Mr Wainwright, at time it can fuel you...it have sustained me, but more often than not what it fuels are just destructive."
The Security Chief sigh.
"No...knowing what lies behind Abigail's scars might not be prudent knowledge to acquire, on the other hand it might be just the thing we need to manipulate her so we can take her down."

He looked at the little crystal, and smiled approvingly, "Oh, this is beautiful... Very pure quartz? And I would hazard... that spell is highly Dynamic. It is pure creative power, not destructive; it would seem plausible to guess that the tass isn't destroyed so much as having its resonance forcibly shifted around. I... might confer with the Euthanatos about that hypothesis; they've got better insight into that aspect of magic, but I think the idea holds up."

"Yes it is quite beautiful and yes it is quartz, pure and not burdened with emotion, ideal to pick up the residues of energies."
Kristina said as she worked on the bowl.
"Hum...yes there is Dynamism here as well...talking with the death mages might indeed bring som insight yes, in either case it do seam like your spell did what was intended...among other things."
She said and glanced over at Isabella.
"There is no trace of corruption here...now if you would hand that crystal back to me let us have a lock at your own Resonances and energies shall we."
Kristina said and held out her hand to get the little piece of quartz back.
"By you holding it Mr Wainwright, it have absorbed an imprint of your energies that I can now read."

Colin grinned wryly, "I meant back from Chicago, not back from visiting Deaconess Darnell."

"I do believe that visiting Chantry Flamingo are quite safe indeed."
Joakim said with a grin.
"The most horrible thing you are likely to encounter are their name."
He said and Kristina raised an eyebrow.
"And Morningstar is so much better?"
She asked and the Security Chief looked at her with a mock frown.
"Yes it is...yes it is indeed actually, far better."

"Even so...ah damn, one more thing. Tian's family, we need to get them somewhere safe. We were given a story to relate, so they would know we'd talked to him...possibly so they might know it was not under duress and that they should trust us."

"Hum...what is their address? It might be most practical if Mr Wainwright go and pick them up when he is going out of the Chantry anyway, at least if they live anywhere close, we can house them in one of the apartments over the garage for now, it is not ideal to house sleepers here but they should not see to much from there."
Joakim mushed.
"And since Mr Wainwright will require a driver he will have back up with him in case there is trouble."

Friday:

"I am not so sure you visiting my mother is a good idea Tane, I am not so sure she will be open to you telling her that I am a mage...she is more likely to think you are a creeper and call the police."
Lily said and sounded doubtful.

Saturday:

"Very well, we should head for the bus station then unless this neighborhood is close to here, though most of those close buy are pretty good so probably not, and yes considering what we are going out to do, I will indeed keep my weapon close."
Henrietta said as she begun to head down the corridor next to Tane.
"So where are we going?"

Colin glanced at Joakim, "Italians. Political complications. No names for now."
He nodded, "Recruit someone at random from the dining hall. Simple enough. And a detour to Galewood on the way back."
He handed the crystal back to Kristina, "It's beautiful. Where did you say you get these quality stones? Asking in regards to jewelrymaking, mind."
He arched an eyebrow, "Considering who the Morningstar was, mythologically at least, I'd prefer running into a flamingo, I think..."
He thought back for a moment, "Tian's daughter and her mother live at 23 Caroline Street. Apartment 74. I don't know how long the round trip will take, but if you could make an estimate of when I'll return and prepare a quick meeting then?"

Colin glanced at Joakim, "Italians. Political complications. No names for now."

"I see...very well I will stay my curiosity and ask nothing further about this topic for now."
Joakim sigh and agreed.

He nodded, "Recruit someone at random from the dining hall. Simple enough. And a detour to Galewood on the way back."

"Yes that would seam like a sensible plan to get two things done at once."
Joakim said and nodded.

He handed the crystal back to Kristina, "It's beautiful. Where did you say you get these quality stones? Asking in regards to jewelrymaking, mind."

Kristina took the stone and nestled between the palms of her hands for a moment then she handed it back to Colin.
"You have no corruption or Jhor in your system Mr Wainwright, your main Resonance is Dynamic with a hint of Static, you have been around death quite a bit lately and something darker, but it have not stained you, in fact your energy residues are extremely healthy."
The Verbena said then she added.
"There is a bit of your personal energy in that stone now, you should cleanse it before returning it to me since I can use it as an arcane connection, it would be most rude of me to take it back without warning you about that."
She said then she smiles.
"There is this old werewolf, a member of the same pack that my foster mother belonged to, she travels all over the world and spirits helps him find the best rocks, I would be happy to give you his number, he is not cheap, but his stones are always of perfect quality."
The Verbena said and gave a fond smile for the old lupine she spoke of.

He arched an eyebrow, "Considering who the Morningstar was, mythologically at least, I'd prefer running into a flamingo, I think..."

Joakim threw his head back and roared with laughter.
"Yes well our Chantry is named after our founder and Deacon Primus's wife, she was a fine researcher but she also made a name for herself on the battlefield, her favorite weapon was a enchanted, spiked mace which gave her the nickname Lady Morningstar."
He explained.
"She was a most pleasant woman, stern but fair, I am sure you would have liked to run into her, providing you did not end up on her bad side."
He said with a snicker.

He thought back for a moment, "Tian's daughter and her mother live at 23 Caroline Street. Apartment 74. I don't know how long the round trip will take, but if you could make an estimate of when I'll return and prepare a quick meeting then?"

"I will do so Mr Wainwright...the trip to Flamingo should take you ten or twelve minutes, however the address of Mr Silverberg's family might take you another fifteen."
Joakim muttered.
"Perhaps thirty."

Colin glanced at Joakim, "Italians. Political complications. No names for now."

He wondered if by now his face automatically arranged itself in a particularly specific look every time his friend spoke about things he thought he shouldn't...or in company he shouldn't or at times he shouldn't...in ways he thought he shouldn't. He didn't say anything and as soon as felt the familiar sense of irritation he tried to let go of it before it was obvious.

"I am sure Miri will be able to keep and eye on our guest and I do not expect trouble from them, and if Miss Jarden helps out as well that should be enough." Joakim agreed.

"Hrm, well I do wonder what happened to them...of course I hope they are alright."

He nodded, "Recruit someone at random from the dining hall. Simple enough. And a detour to Galewood on the way back."

"Random?"

"There is no trace of corruption here...now if you would hand that crystal back to me let us have a lock at your own Resonances and energies shall we." Kristina said and held out her hand to get the little piece of quartz back. "By you holding it Mr Wainwright, it have absorbed an imprint of your energies that I can now read."

Adley looked at her and gave a thoughtful nod. "Interesting...yes, like magickal fingerprints..."

"The most horrible thing you are likely to encounter are their name." He said and Kristina raised an eyebrow. "And Morningstar is so much better?" She asked and the Security Chief looked at her with a mock frown. "Yes it is...yes it is indeed actually, far better."

"Hum...what is their address? Joakim mushed. "And since Mr Wainwright will require a driver he will have back up with him in case there is trouble."

"If that is acceptable to everyone," he agreed.

He arched an eyebrow, "Considering who the Morningstar was, mythologically at least, I'd prefer running into a flamingo, I think..."

He raised an eyebrow at him as Joakim talked about the fact the place had been named after a mace-wielding maga. Considering all the talk they'd just done about Heylel...well, he supposed Lucifer was more commonly associated to the title Morningstar, thanks to Latin translation. He wished he'd learned more Hebrew than what he had gleaned from regular study...he would probably be saying the same about Arabic soon enough. At least when they got through all this mess...too much to do to speculate on it all now though. "I shall see you soon, be well," he said with a nod of his head to the others. "Thank you for your help."

Colin gave Adley a grin, "Random sounds better than picking a volunteer..."
He held the stone up and examined it for a moment, "Hum... A touch of something darker... Perhaps the Outsider thing that tried to make me blame myself for a young barabbus' fate... That didn't quite work, but it did bother me for some time. Or perhaps the attempt to gilgul me at the post office... That didn't quite work, either. Perhaps I'm made of teflon? Let's see if this works, though..."
He focused on the natural flows of the crystal, the octagram engraved on his ring as he held it up behind the stone, and closed his eyes, envisioning the scraps and leftovers being blown away by a gust of wind through the passageways, "Scoria expurgate!"
Shaking his head a little to clear out the proverbial cobwebs, he handed the crystal back with a smile, "Did that take care of it? And I would like that old wolf's contact information. I expect I could make some very fine quality tools for assorted magical work with stones like that."
He nodded with a grin, "A lady who likes to go clubbing. Well, that's certainly modern enough. Well, let's say I'll be back in about an hour, then? Right, meet back at your office, with the new guests?"

"Hrm, well I do wonder what happened to them...of course I hope they are alright."

"We are going to have to ask them, and yes I to hope that the Orphans have not been seriously harmed."
The Security Chief said with a worried frown.

"Random?"

"I just asked your Cabalmate to ask someone at the dining hall to drive him to Chantry Flamingo as I did not have any designated drivers in mind right at the moment."

Adley looked at her and gave a thoughtful nod. "Interesting...yes, like magickal fingerprints..."

"Yes very much like that. In some ways I learned this rote from my husband or rather got the idea from one of his powers, though I off course had to find my own way to perform it and fit it to my Paradigm."
Kristina said and nodded.
"I can read energies out of any stone but the purer the quartz the better, my husband have me beat on that though as he can get all sorts of sensations, including images out of items that have been involved in some event or held by someone. I do believe that Isabella have the same ability...I have to do some research though to figure out how to do the same."
The Verbena said and Isabella gave a shy smile.
"Well for now reading energies will do."
Kristina added.

"If that is acceptable to everyone," he agreed.

"I am sure it will be fine, we can relocate the lady and her child later but for now we need to have them somewhere we can protect them, and in the secondary building they will not see much of what go on around here, only hedge wizards have their quarters there, we built the apartment building on the property when we opened up a sort of school for linear mages here where my kind get instruction in exchange for serving the Chantry."
Joakim explained.

"I shall see you soon, be well," he said with a nod of his head to the others. "Thank you for your help."

Kristina nodded back to Adley and Isabella said.
"Yes I will see you later Sir."
She said.

Joakim left the class room and lead Adley down the corridor, you see a pale haired girl walk down the hallway with a book under one arm. Once you get down to the lobby you see the rest of the party where arriving. Adjan gave you a wave of his hand as he escorted a pretty woman in her fifties with short, dark gray curls, intelligent blue eyes and wearing a gray shirt, white blouse and gray jacket. The woman's face was similar to Greg Bachmier and she carried herself in an air of dignity. The woman had with her two younger women, one had dark skin and looked to be in her late teens, she was wearing a pair of jeans and a band tshirt, the other was quite plump, with large gray green eyes and a mass of curly red hair, she was wearing a white dress and a denim jacket and might be two or three years older than the other girl, both the women looked terrified but they did not appear to be hurt. You see Jerome just outside the door carrying the caged chickens towards the back of the garden, and the rest of the party slowly milling into the Chantry's lobby, some of them giving friendly waves to Adley and the Chief as they entered.

"Perhaps you are made of durable stuff Mr Wainwright or perhaps the Gods of Fortune are smiling on you, or perhaps fate have a plan for you and are not ready to let you meet your demise before it is done."
She said then she nodded.
"Any of those would account for the something darker I feel though."

He focused on the natural flows of the crystal, the octagram engraved on his ring as he held it up behind the stone, and closed his eyes, envisioning the scraps and leftovers being blown away by a gust of wind through the passageways, "Scoria expurgate!"

There where only small, leftover bits of your energy in your crystal so you are pretty sure you got them cleaned out properly.

Shaking his head a little to clear out the proverbial cobwebs, he handed the crystal back with a smile, "Did that take care of it? And I would like that old wolf's contact information. I expect I could make some very fine quality tools for assorted magical work with stones like that."

Kristina cradled the stone in her hand for a moment then she nodded and put it in her pocket again.
"Yes that did the trick."
She said then she took a pen and a bit of paper that had not yet been used from the pile Colin had been given for his drawings and wrote down a phone number on it.
"Tell him that Dance-In-Moon sent you, oh and the old coot likes to haggle, he will not be pleases if he do not get a chance to, it is a game to him."
She said and handed you the note.
"He go by Glenn Rivers among humans."

He nodded with a grin, "A lady who likes to go clubbing. Well, that's certainly modern enough. Well, let's say I'll be back in about an hour, then? Right, meet back at your office, with the new guests?"

"Well she certainly where good at it, there where a few less Order of Reason operatives back in the day because of her."
Joakim said with a big smile.
"No wait out in the garage with them and give me a call when you are back, I will find an apartment for our guests taking a sleeper into the main Chantry would be a good way to give quite a bit of Paradox to some unfortunate soul who decided to cast a spell at the wrong place and quite a shock to our guest."
The old hedge wizard instructed you.

Colin arched an eyebrow, "Psychometry? Really? Isn't that just pseudoscientific, new-age mumbo-jumbo?", he asked with a wink.
He grinned wryly, "Ah, yes, many people have been Chosen by the Gods, but very few stop and ask 'for what purpose'... It would be rather infuriating to find out that one is chosen by the gods to serve as occasional entertainment..."
He smiled, "Dance-In-Moon, is it? Sounds like there is a story behind that name. No, no, I'll not pry. And I'd be only too glad to test my bartering skills against his. One of the few delights I get to experience at Ren Faires - I seldom set absolute price tags on the pieces I display there."
He nodded, "Garage, then. Very well - I'll call in before we're back, so you can have the time to warn the residents about strutting their stuff there."

He made a quick detour to the classroom with the fireplace and burned the little packet of papers, then headed down to the dining hall to look for a chauffeur.

Colin arched an eyebrow, "Psychometry? Really? Isn't that just pseudoscientific, new-age mumbo-jumbo?", he asked with a wink.

"You would be surprised about just how much of the new age mumbo jumbo are actually quite real Mr Wainwright."
Isabella said. Kristina just gave a bit of a smile.

He grinned wryly, "Ah, yes, many people have been Chosen by the Gods, but very few stop and ask 'for what purpose'... It would be rather infuriating to find out that one is chosen by the gods to serve as occasional entertainment..."

"Well in my experience with Gods Mr Wainwright, occasional entertainment is a far more likely reason for them to take an interest in a human being than anything grand...there are exceptions of course."
Kristina said with a bit of a wry grin.

"It is my name Mr Wainwright, I was raised by werewolves right alongside two of their own who had been born...wrong...in either case I was named as they would name their own, is there a story behind the name, yes but a rather boring one, I would run away from my foster mother and dance around in the forest at night when I was but a toddler, I was quite a handful I am told."
Kristina said and smiles.
"Kristina came from a cheap romance novel I read and Knox was a word I read in the headline on a newspaper stand I passed when I was tossed out of the pack and sent off to find my own kind and I figured out I needed a human name."
She explained.
"Ah Glenn will be pleased then to have someone skilled at his little games to haggle with."
The Verbena said and sounded amused.

He nodded, "Garage, then. Very well - I'll call in before we're back, so you can have the time to warn the residents about strutting their stuff there."

"Yes thank you...odd thing that is it not, there are men and women in this Chantry who could shake the very heavens literary, but one little sleeper woman and they all need to be warned."
Joakim said wryly and Kristina gave him a dirty look.
"Paradox is no fun."
She muttered.
"No...no I suppose not."
The old hedge wizard said but it seamed that just at times he found the weakness of those who saw themselves as superior to him and his centuries of experience with linear magick amusing, though none of the mages gathered in the classroom at that moment was among those that would place themselves above him.

He made a quick detour to the classroom with the fireplace and burned the little packet of papers, then headed down to the dining hall to look for a chauffeur.

The classroom down the hall looked just about exactly the same as the one you had just been in only that the walls where light green and there was a small fireplace along the back wall. You get the papers burned and then head down to the dining hall, as you get to the lobby you to see the rest of the party that had been sent to the Post Office arriving back at the Chantry along with three ladies that where showed the way in by Adjan. Rosario waves at you as you come down the stairs and Alex gave you a polite nod as the group was milling in, tired and eager for some coffee and perhaps a light evening snack.

Colin giggled uncharacteristically for a moment, "No, I'm fairly sure I wouldn't be. I attend Renaissance Fairs, where all sorts of faux medieval mysticism comes out of the woodwork. I see people waving wands like I do, drawing circles like I do, dowsing with pendulums like a chantrymate of mine does, mystic hand gestures like our security chief, stones like mrs. Knox here, and so on... I suppose you could say all the New Age mumbo-jumbo is steeped in Traditions, as it were."
He grinned wryly, "True, Paradox is no fun... but I have to admit it can be funny to watch how twitchy some Magi act at the mere mention of a Sleeper witness. Caution is one thing, but some Magi do behave like a long-tailed cat at a rocking chair conference. Others... seem more inclined to accept the trade-off for doing what they do."
Coming back to the lobby, he gave Rosario and Alex a wave back, and halted to step up to the three ladies Adjan was admitting, "Excuse me, but would one of you be madame Bachmeier?"

"Well that mumbo jumbo is how my powers work Mr Wainwright."
Joakim said.
"The Technocracy have not managed to remove all magick from our reality, there are still children who wish on their birthday candles, still housewives that lay Tarot cards, and lonely men and women who buy a love spell kit at a new age store, and those slivers of belief keep the back doors open for linear magic. Many of those who have that sliver of belief also have an Avatar that stir ever so slightly in it's slumber allowing them to dowse for their grandmother's wedding ring or attract a mate with that pink handle and pouch of herbs, or just a hint of the Gift manifests and remembering to bring your umbrella even if the skies are clear do keep the rain away. Magick is more common that our enemies would like and most would believe, it is still there but most of it is not flashy, it is just the hint of wonder in one's everyday lives. No Mr Wainwright be thankful of the new age shops and books and fairground goers, if not for them and similar then reality would be even more hostile to magick."
The Security Chief said and smiled.
"Though often they have gotten the traditions and symbols and gestures completely wrong."

"Well there are those that show to much caution and those that show to little, however it is easy to be a bit skittish when your before mentioned long tail have ended up between a rocking chair, the floor and a somewhat ample bodied grandmother a few times to many."
Kristina said and sigh.
"But then magick can usually be done rather subtle as well, but living at a large Chantry that have been here long enough to get a bit of it's own reality regio it is easy to get somewhat spoiled as to what one can allow oneself to do in here, and all it then takes in one sleeper witness and the next thing you know purple acorns are growing out of your ass."

Coming back to the lobby, he gave Rosario and Alex a wave back, and halted to step up to the three ladies Adjan was admitting, "Excuse me, but would one of you be madame Bachmeier?"

One of the ladies, the oldest among them stopped and regarded Colin as he spoke to her, she was of middle years but still pretty with a oval fave with sharp features, gray green eyes and short gray curls, she was dressed smartly in gray and white and carried herself with an air of confidence and authority.
"I am she, what can I do for you Sir?"
The woman said, her two companions, just girls really in their late teens or early twenties stopped as well, they had a look about them as if they had just been scared half out of their wits, which they probably also had been when the Nephandi attacked them, the pair of them regarded Colin for a moment but they said nothing.

Mia's Mirror, Basement Cells and Node With a View IC Thread 12 - Page 3 Empty Re: Mia's Mirror, Basement Cells and Node With a View IC Thread 12

Post by Adley Thu Jun 23, 2016 5:27 pm

Colin gave Adley a grin, "Random sounds better than picking a volunteer..."

"I'll have to try that in class," he said. "Somehow I think they'd like it just the same."

"I just asked your Cabalmate to ask someone at the dining hall to drive him to Chantry Flamingo as I did not have any designated drivers in mind right at the moment."

"I see. Well, I would like it to be someone that can potentially watch your back. Just in case you run into something."

I can read energies out of any stone but the purer the quartz the better, my husband have me beat on that though as he can get all sorts of sensations, including images out of items that have been involved in some event or held by someone. I do believe that Isabella have the same ability...I have to do some research though to figure out how to do the same."
Colin arched an eyebrow, "Psychometry? Really? Isn't that just pseudoscientific, new-age mumbo-jumbo?", he asked with a wink.

He nodded. He could discern magickal resonances that he was familiar with and now unfortunately could tell Qlipotthic workings...and a short while ago his avatar had nudged him when he held that box in his hand. The latter was new. "I am familiar with tools and personal items carrying such traces but it did not occur to me to use something to do it on purpose. Or, well, I do not work with crystals much, at least not that way."

"Kristina came from a cheap romance novel I read and Knox was a word I read in the headline on a newspaper stand I passed when I was tossed out of the pack and sent off to find my own kind and I figured out I needed a human name." She explained. "Ah Glenn will be pleased then to have someone skilled at his little games to haggle with." The Verbena said and sounded amused.

"If you would not mind, at some point I would like to also contact this person, or perhaps through Colin. To repay some friends for a good work they did for us." He had no money right now, and little time but if there was a world by Tuesday it would not hurt to know a person.

He nodded towards the others, mentally counting off who he saw to see who was there or missing and then waved down Adjan, glad to see him with the Bachmeir group. He glanced at the Chief and then looked to see if Isabella had exited with them or was close by or not.

Colin shrugged, "My aunt used to read tea leaves. Pretty good at it, too. I'm fairly certain she was a Sleeper, but as you say, there's that little bit of magic left in the world. There was no disparaging intent in my comment, just amusement."
He smiled wryly, "I'll admit, I've yet to suffer much Paradox myself; the worst was when I accrued a bit facing down an old Marauder the other day... though I remember a future incident where I aggravate an ordinary rock - I don't quite recall the details surrounding that, though."
He nodded to Adley, "I'm sure we can work something out."

He nodded to the younger girls, and bowed politely to Mrs. Bachmeier, "My name is Wainwright, of Steelhaven Hall. Your son was recently instrumental in saving my Cabalmate from, well, the same fate he almost suffered. I wanted to thank you for fighting to make that possible."

Adley:

"I see. Well, I would like it to be someone that can potentially watch your back. Just in case you run into something."

"Yes indeed, choose someone who can fight then again they are all magick users in one way or another though of course some are more potent than others."
Joakim agreed.

The latter was new. "I am familiar with tools and personal items carrying such traces but it did not occur to me to use something to do it on purpose. Or, well, I do not work with crystals much, at least not that way."

"I find crystals to be quite useful Mr Roth Hicks, they are very receptive to energies and Resonances, then again that is my Paradigm so it is not for certain they would work the same way for someone who do not share my worldview."
Kristina said as she adjusted her skirts and then her hair bun to make sure she was presentable.

"If you would not mind, at some point I would like to also contact this person, or perhaps through Colin. To repay some friends for a good work they did for us." He had no money right now, and little time but if there was a world by Tuesday it would not hurt to know a person.

"Yes off course, he is a friendly old man, if you are not to sensitive to swear words now and again as he do have a mouth on him and do not like to go pussyfooting around, something he says he is far to old for."
The Verbena said with a fond smile.

He nodded towards the others, mentally counting off who he saw to see who was there or missing and then waved down Adjan, glad to see him with the Bachmeir group. He glanced at the Chief and then looked to see if Isabella had exited with them or was close by or not.

Everyone who had not come though the portal with you and Colin was there, except Jerome that you just saw head towards the back of the garden with the Mercere Deacon's pet birds. You see Magda wave to you as she was talking with Samantha Kelly about something, everyone seamed to be safe and sound.

Isabella is right behind you she left the classroom shortly after you did.

Colin:

Colin shrugged, "My aunt used to read tea leaves. Pretty good at it, too. I'm fairly certain she was a Sleeper, but as you say, there's that little bit of magic left in the world. There was no disparaging intent in my comment, just amusement."

"Probably your aunt was a lesser hedge wizard then if she got results or even a lesser Awakened that never get to the point of being able to really use what they have, such small magical talents are not that uncommon."
Joakim said.
"It is fully realized mages of both variations that are rare."

He smiled wryly, "I'll admit, I've yet to suffer much Paradox myself; the worst was when I accrued a bit facing down an old Marauder the other day... though I remember a future incident where I aggravate an ordinary rock - I don't quite recall the details surrounding that, though."

"Well Paradox can be most unplesant Mr Wainwright."
Kristina said and made a bit of a face.
"Trust me about that, you do not want to get to much of it."

The powerful old Orphan woman looks at you for a moment then she gave you a warm smile.
"It is not often I hear kind words about my son Mr Wainwright, many fear him though he have never broken Tradition law, so thank you. I heard about the troubles in Boston, a Verbena girl was it not, I am glad my son was able to help...that thing...should not be done indiscriminately to everyone born widderslainte like that."
She muttered angrily.
"Thank you again, I do hope your Cabalmate is doing well Mr Wainwright."
She said politely.

Colin nodded, "And it seems I drew the lucky number in my immediate family. Then again, who knows what secrets my little sister hides, living alone?"
He nodded, "Oh, I know... I've seen a few who... caught a bit too much. Didn't look pleasant at all."

He slowly straightened up, smiling, "That's correct, Mrs. Bachmeier. And I agree; I've met a few who are... suffice to say, you wouldn't even be able to guess what had been done to them; they are good and kind people, despite it all. Beatrice is... on the mend, but I have every confidence she'll be running around the halls and playing ball with the Chief's imp again sooner, rather than later. But if you'll pardon me, I was on the way out. A pleasure to meet you, ma'am."

Colin nodded, "And it seems I drew the lucky number in my immediate family. Then again, who knows what secrets my little sister hides, living alone?"

"You never know indeed, then again she is probably safer your sister not having gained your powers, though most find that even with the danger, Awakening is worth it...even...with a...loss and then hedge magic...it is worth it..."
Joakim said and he got a strange look in his eyes.
"Well at least your sister do not know how near the world is to ending tomorrow Mr Wainwright."
He muttered after a while.
"Let us make sure she never have to find out yes?"

He nodded, "Oh, I know... I've seen a few who... caught a bit too much. Didn't look pleasant at all."

"It is not...and in addition Paradox have a tendency to make you pretty unpleasant for others as well. If you go into a quiet well, an insane mage is a terrible being."
Kristina said gravely.

He slowly straightened up, smiling, "That's correct, Mrs. Bachmeier. And I agree; I've met a few who are... suffice to say, you wouldn't even be able to guess what had been done to them; they are good and kind people, despite it all.

"Some...have more strength than I can even imagine."
The Orphan Master said and shuddered.
"Well more than I hope I ever have to imagine."

Beatrice is... on the mend, but I have every confidence she'll be running around the halls and playing ball with the Chief's imp again sooner, rather than later.

"I am glad to hear it, and I am sure my son will be pleased as well to hear that the young woman is doing better and will recover."
Mrs Bachmeier said with a warm smile.

But if you'll pardon me, I was on the way out. A pleasure to meet you, ma'am."

"Off course Mr Wainwright, I did not mean to keep you, do have a pleasant evening, and yes indeed, a pleasure to meet you."

Colin nodded, "Yes, let's."
He grimaced, "Marauders can, I have found, be quite civil and harmless overall - the nurse at the local walk-in clinic comes to mind... And then, there's the one we have in custody at Steelhaven, who casually shredded a city street and left us allegedly sane Magi to dodge asphalt and eat Paradox. A most unpleasant situation, though she turned out to be quite agreeable once I shot her, and she was subsequently healed and made to see she had been deceived. I... fear her chances aren't good, though, seeing as she did attack us."

He nodded to Mrs. Bachmeier, "Likewise, and please give my regards to your son when next you speak with him."
Then he turned on his heel and marched to the dining hall, stepping inside and looking around, "Excuse me, but Chief Joakim told me to see if someone here could chauffeur me on a couple of quick errands... Shouldn't be more than an hour's round trip, tops. Oh, and there's also a very slight possibility of danger, so some combat capability would be preferred."

A most unpleasant situation, though she turned out to be quite agreeable once I shot her, and she was subsequently healed and made to see she had been deceived. I... fear her chances aren't good, though, seeing as she did attack us."

"Not all Marauders are dangerous, however when you have a mad person with magick there is always a chance that they will use it in some unpredictable manner, also one do not have to be a Marauder to be a danger...I...took the roof of a high rise in one Quiet, though by some miracle no one was seriously hurt...and in another I set my husband on fire and only the fact that he is rather...durable let him survive...magick is a wondrous gift, but it is also a weapon, a weapon that are terrifying in the hands of someone that are not playing with a full deck to say it like that."
Kristina said then she sigh.
"If this Marauder you speak of have shown herself a threat...and she can find her way back to earth from the Umbra then that put your Chantry a bit in a bind, this person is dangerous, it might be safer to end her life."
The Verbena said softly.

He nodded to Mrs. Bachmeier, "Likewise, and please give my regards to your son when next you speak with him."

"I will do so Mr Wainwright. I am planing a trip to Horizon shortly to see him."
The old Orphan said and gave you another warm smile.

You see Thomas and his friend was still playing chess. A quite elderly wizard with long hair the exact same color as silver and wearing flowing brown robes sat sleeping in his chair, a cup of tea forgotten on the table in front of him, soft snoring sounding from him. You see Mirri busy with something behind the counter and a pale Goth boy in a black tshirt and bondage pants with large boots and a myriad of rings in his left ear sat reading a book, he looked up when Colin spoke, you had seen the man in the hallways of Morningstar a few times.
"Yes I can give you a ride if you need it Sir and I should be able to hold my own in a fight."
The goth kid said, he might be about Adley's age, handsome with a bit stocky built, his eyes was dark brown and his features fine. The young man closed his book and stood.
"My name is Mark Jennings."
He said and made his way towards you and held out his hand in greeting, a hand decorated with several silver skull rings.
"So where are we going?"

As for the one in custody, she only attacked because... the Fallen had raided her little clan, hidden away in the Umbra, and framed us. He nodded and shook Mark's hand, "Very good; I'm Colin Wainwright. I need to visit Flamingo Chantry, and then a detour before returning. I'll... give you the address when we're en route."
Glancing down at the hand, he arched an eyebrow, "Hm, sterling, I would guess... Is that array functional, or are they mere decorations?"

He nodded to Adley, "I'm sure we can work something out."

He nodded at him, leaving it at that. It wasn't like he was trying to be a mother hen...the man was old enough to know how to get a ride for himself.

"Yes off course, he is a friendly old man, if you are not to sensitive to swear words now and again as he do have a mouth on him and do not like to go pussyfooting around, something he says he is far to old for."

He gave a small grin. "I'm sure that I can endure. At any rate much to do, I will pick up the contact from my cabalmate or yourself later on."

He waved back to Magda. To Isabella and the Chief he said, "This seems to be the group mentioned, did someone let the Lady know they are here yet?" he asked of Lady Crexia, before they got closer to the group of Orphans.

// Sorry I had a migraine all day so I'm just starting to function. I figure since Colin ducked in the other room to use the fireplace, Adley will see the group for a moment or two before he does.

Colin:

Colin nodded, "In practice, it would seem the only difference between a Mage in a quiet and a Marauder is that the Marauder won't come back to sanity... And yes, either can be dangerous.

"Yes that is correct, a Marauder is a mage that will never get out of his or her Quiet, that is the very definition of it, the only real difference is that Marauders have completely lost touch with reality and as such no longer  stores Paradox themselves put those energies are left floating to be absorbed by any other mage nearby, and also it is possible to be drawn into a Marauder's reality, something that do not happen with someone in Quiet, well unless the insane mage uses some sort of magick to make it happen."
Kristina said and agreed.
"Other than that yes the only difference is how long the condition will last."

As for the one in custody, she only attacked because... the Fallen had raided her little clan, hidden away in the Umbra, and framed us. She came looking for a missing friend and thought we had her; a sane Mage could have made the exact same mistake... which makes her future prospects all the more tragic; she is a recluse who was tricked."

"Hum...I see, it is a tough call to make then for in some ways she is innocent, on the other hand if she is easy to trick, powerful and a good Umbral traveler that is a problem. I guess one could try to do some sort of binding oath on her, enforcing a Geas that made it impossible for her to return to physical reality in some way...hum...well in either case Mr Wainwright I am very glad that the decision about what to do with this woman is not mine."

He nodded and shook Mark's hand, "Very good; I'm Colin Wainwright. I need to visit Flamingo Chantry, and then a detour before returning. I'll... give you the address when we're en route."

"Flamingo hum...well I know where it is."
Mark said and nodded.
"Very well let us be on our way then...oh yes and it is nice to meet you."
He added.
"You are one of those from Boston right from...oh what was the name? Steelhaven Hall?"

Glancing down at the hand, he arched an eyebrow, "Hm, sterling, I would guess... Is that array functional, or are they mere decorations?"

"This one is sterling, it was a gift from an ex girlfriend...these two are not they are like oh I don't know 80 percent or so...and what do you mean by functional Mr Wainwright? I guess they would make an impact, literary, if I where to hit someone, but other than that they are a decoration. If you where asking about my foci then I use a deck of playing cards."
The man said and patted a pocket on his pants.

Adley:

He gave a small grin. "I'm sure that I can endure. At any rate much to do, I will pick up the contact from my cabalmate or yourself later on."

Kristina gave a smile at than then she nodded.
"Very well I will see you later Adley, I should get to my own tasks as well."
The Verbena said and headed for the classroom door.

He waved back to Magda. To Isabella and the Chief he said, "This seems to be the group mentioned, did someone let the Lady know they are here yet?" he asked of Lady Crexia, before they got closer to the group of Orphans.

"Yes indeed it do seam they made it back safely, thank goodness."
Isabella said and the Chief nodded.
"None have told the Lady but she knows."
Was all he said. You see Adjan talk with the group of Orphans for a moment, perhaps trying to get a clearer view of the situation.

Friday:

"My mother keep her cheerful life I think by not learning that there are spiders that can turn into humans and magick and oh a war between mages that her daughter is getting herself involved in, she is happy as long as she can hold onto normalcy, watch reality shows on TV and try to outshine the neighbors and garden parties."

"Her ideal life...is my idea of hell."

Saturday:

"There are probably allot of parking lots in a whole city part Tane."

"Do you know which one we are heading for? Well no matter for now we need to get to the bus, or would you prefer it if I tried to get someone to loan me their car for this so we could drive?"

((OOC: The "work something out" line was in reference to the werewolf stonemerchant, not getting a driver. I really should get into the habit of quoting. Razz ))

Colin smiled to Mark, "Capital; I don't know where Flamingo is myself, but I rather need to consult with the Deaconess there."
He nodded, "Precisely; it seems Steelhaven Hall has decided to find itself in the eye of the storm, as it were... it's rather a long and convoluted chain of events. And yes, I meant functional as in Foci, like mine," he added, raising his left hand to display his signet ring, "I would generally not recommend punching people with silver rings, though... you would want some sort of rail across all the fingers for that, something that would actually protect your knucles."
