[Basement Noon]

Colin frowned, "Well, I'd rather hold us to somewhat higher standards, regardless of how your side treat prisoners... but very well, you shall have your water, but I'm sure someone will swing by again to feed you later. Might bring you a cup of soup or something instead?"

The Nephandus nodded and he muttered.
"Thank you."
Richard had started his series of quick fire hand gestures again touching the Nephandus with taps to several places on his body. The prisoner shuddered but then his bruises and scrapes vanished.
"Well that do feel better."
He muttered and he sounded less hoarse.

[1 PM]

He shook his head, "Not one on the serum... he was just fishing for an accidental fatal beating. I have a hunch about the culprit, though, and will have a word with her to confirm it... my responsibility first, then your Pater's."

"Well yes if the prisoner is on the serum then a gag should not be needed."
Helena agreed.
"Very well keep me updated...anything else Mr Wainwright?"

Anja's Post:

'I suppose that's possible... ' thinking of what Cowra wanted to do to her for a moment, vaguely concious to the fact she probably would roll with the guy if he wasn't so desirous to give her stretch marks too. 'But that's one thing which you can find out later, when a specialist arrives. If you let her, that is.'

[Steelhaven, 6.45]

Morrigan's Post:

'Unknown. But unlikely to be anything more than a straggler or two. Even that is not hugely likely. This is more an FYI thing.' the Etherite answered, showing that the weight of the panels was nothing, simply that it was a little bulky for one person to handle alone.

Serge's Post:

'Can you do that afterwards? Until the place is properly cleaned up like, we don't want anyone going in.' Nicole replied, straightening up and looking thoughtful for a moment, while Serge looked into the pristine interior of the Colorado, devoid of items save what appeared to be a plastic cover over the driver's seat. Spotted what appeared to be a pair of folding seats in the rear of the vehicle.

Serge's Post:

'And normally it would be. But most of the Fernald was boarded-up decades ago. We're just needing to make good any holes the Fallen did.' the large woman replied, making a check to see the load was secure.

[Nicole's Apartment, 1.00]

Colin's Post:

'We only have a set time on this mudball, and I ain't gonna waste it playing house. It's so fucking pointless.' the large woman replied with a sneer, giving a shrug and moving over to the kitchen sink, removing battered large pan from it and starting to rinse out the pot under the kitchen tap.

'Anyway, if you've been upstairs you know there's an issue, like. They don't have the time or resources to give all them the care they need.'

'But that's one thing which you can find out later, when a specialist arrives. If you let her, that is.'

"We will just have to wait and see what this expert have to say, the woman in question is unconcious so collecting more blood samples from her should not borther her if your expert needs it."
Richard said then he nodded.
"Well then I should return to my patients Nick and see what I can do for them. I hear Westchapel wll be sending someone to help out at the infirmary but until then it is up to me and Miss White so we are stretched thin."

Colin smiled thinly, "Dr. Lee is quite a competent physician. Now, I suppose you ought to know, the Labyrinth has been taken in its entirety, the Caul excised, and... we did not take any prisoners. I personally killed Rust and fed him to the Labyrinth creature... the latter of which I have adopted, in a deal with Tali. I do, however, have a few small questions for you... He chuckled, "I was thinking more of the accumulation than the sorting. You certainly are a pack rat."

He nodded, "Things seemed to have calmed down a little when I was up there, though Dr. Lee was still stretched a little thin. We have a couple of arrivals from Westchapel to help out, though - a Dr. Millwick and the Deacon Primus' young apprentice. It's not a full medical staff, but they should be able to let our own healers get some much-needed sleep at long last."
He frowned, "On the subject of well-being, did you perchance gag one of the Fallen in the cellar?"

"So he seam to be."
The Nephandus said and he worked his jaw a bit and his shoulders and gave a sigh of relief.
"Very good ideed."
He added and Richard gave a smile at that. The prisoner nodded sadly when you said the Labyrinth had been taken then he raised an eyebrow.
"Why do you borther to ask me? It is not like me and the Security Chief is much fond of one another but if I knew what could it benefit me to tell you? Your side plan to rip the soul out of my still living body I will aid you with nothing!"
The Nephandus declared bitterly.

He shook his head, "I will keep you posted as and when necessary, Ma'am."

Helena nodded at that.
"Well then until later Mr Wainwright."
She said and she gave the Orphan a polite nod before she turned and headed towards the garage to meet the two visitors from Westchapel.

He shrugged, "Master Haagen and Deacon Sharaya as well as Mr. von Hess share your inconvenience... as does Bruce and Adept Markov. And even the most mystic of Hermetics are quite impaired without their tools; I expect we'll have our cellars drastically expanded soon, there should be room for a proper workshop in that, I hope. Plus," he added with a small smile, "we now have the Labyrinth, too - if you don't mind the architecture, I'm sure we could arrange for some nice, secure storage and workspace there, too. Just need to get a reliable door installed. In a manner of speaking."
He frowned, "And yes, Westchapel does have a bit of space, why?"

Nicole wrote:'Yes, but that's the wrong point, it is. We've both been through the fucking mill... and all we have is more medics on-route...' gesturing to the pot, clearly asking if Colin wanted coffee. Or some form of hot drink.
He shook his head, not quite trusting Nicole's utensils, "Pass, thank you. I'm sure they can requisition further supplies from home when they see the state of our stocks, maybe even help transfer some patients over now that the immediate crisis is dealt with."

Nicole wrote:'Wha? No. I only went down there to swipe some leftover particleboard, to seal up the hospital.' the Etherite replied, clearly thrown by this tangent and with an underscore of "I didn't do it" which was somewhat characteristic of her.
He arched an eyebrow, "This would have been before we hit the Labyrinth, judging by his state... seems he'd tried to infuriate a big, strong woman into beating him to death to silence him, and received a gag for his troubles instead... and you are the one who best fits that description."

He said darkly.

[Nicole's Apartment, 1.00]

Colin's Post:

'It's gotten better here, yeah.' the Etherite replied a little grudgingly, now filling the pot with fresh water. 'But it's not so much about workshop space but storage. This place has a large room devoted to keep toilet paper and firelighters in but not even a closet for all the parts, spares I need. It's why Bruce has to keep all his gear out by the junkyard, like.' now plugging in a duct-taped power lead which ran to what appeared to be a bastard offspring of a coffee-maker and a waffle-iron.

Colin's Post:

'Just making the point that Westchapel's set-up is better for my type than here. Just like here is a good posting for yet another Hermetic.' a touch of sourness creeping in here as she put the metal pot on the plate of the device. 'Anyway, I have been thinking about the Labyrinth thingy a little bit. How hard do you think it would be to secure a bit of it so fire, bullets etcetera don't damage the walls and stuff?'

Colin's Post:

A moment's silence as the Etherite looked at him, before moving back out of the kitchen. 'I assume by that line you've not actually talked to the doc properly about it, then. Supplies ain't the problem; this is one of long term care. Mainly inside the head, like. Karin's hiding in her own little world right now, and she's one of the best ones.' quickly going through the debris on the coffee-table, locating an old-fashioned lighter and a packet of cigarettes.

'We have a sickbay, not a nursing-home or psych ward. Same as Westchapel.' pulling a cigarette out of the packet with her lips one-handed while playing with the lighter on the other.

Colin's Post:

'And you believe him? This could all be like a conspiracy against me.' she quipped with a little bit of a smirk as she lit her cigarette. 'I don't remember doing that. But you know how it is, everything starts running into each other...' the suspicion returning as jets of smoke came out of her nostils.

'Why you bringing this up?'

You left the infirmary leaving Richard and Miss Wite to care for their many patients. Trina gave you a wave as you left.

He smiled wryly, "Communal needs over individual needs... when common storage space is a bit at a premium, well... ask any modern Mage what they'd rather be without, a magical tool or a roll of toilet paper in the lavatory, and I dare say most would opt to keep the roll."

Nicole wrote:'Just making the point that Westchapel's set-up is better for my type than here. 'Anyway, I have been thinking about the Labyrinth thingy a little bit. How hard do you think it would be to secure a bit of it so fire, bullets etcetera don't damage the walls and stuff?'
He nodded thoughtfully, "I've been sleeping on it... assuming some spacious rooms with high ceilings, it should not be too much of a problem to install some manner of suspended room, with supports at the corners, and some flame retardant or ballistic padding in the walls. It would be necessary to avoid harming the creature in the process; a stray bullet in the flesh walls might not bother him much, but hitting an eye or other organ might be... troublesome. I'd have to chart out the place fully to say for certain, though, and might need help to communicate clearly with him how to grow space with specific measurements. Might be able to grow grooves with room for proper support set against bone in time. But for now, if there's a room big enough for, say, a padded cargo container, that should be quite easy."

Nicole wrote:A moment's silence as the Etherite looked at him, before moving back out of the kitchen. 'I assume by that line you've not actually talked to the doc properly about it, then. He frowned, "I believe he was gagged by a large, strong woman. He'd have no reason to lie about that... the reason I brought it up is that he'd apparently been forgotten like that for several hours, leaving his mouth dreadfully parched. Kallan had been left with his fingers taped so tightly together, he was on the road to gangrene. I'll be taking it up with everyone else, too; we slipped on prisoner care tonight, and we shouldn't... Not accusing you of being abusive, just saying we all slipped up here."

"Yeah just a bit more comfort while bound in a basement on the Serum until I am taken to Horizon, no deal that is not good enough."
The prisoner declared.
"But yes ask your Security Chief about the other option."
He said with a sigh.
"I want to protect my Avatar above all."

Colin's Post:

'No, I wasn't. That would cost a fucking bomb. The building is a "historically important" massive derelict firetrap stuffed with asbestos stuck in the middle of the town, like my old school.' the Etherite replied, moving back to the kitchen and emptying the ashtray in a rubbbish bag. 'Anyway, why should we have to carry the load on this one, even if we can?'

Colin's Post:

'I wasn't on prisoner detail, so not my fault. What do you expect from field bindings?' Nicole replied with a combination nonchalance and defensiveness. 'And at no point was I in the situation where I could learn this, and it's beyond my pay-grade to be in charge of it. That buck would stop at...' a moment's silence as the Etherite worked it out, taking a drag of her smoke. '-Adept Mar, as ranking security bod.' flicking some ash into the now-empty tray and holding a finger by the pot for a moment before nodding to herself.

Nicole wrote:A little shrug to this. 'It's a sign that this place is needing a proper remodel, like. Need a proper briefing room, for starters. And more cells.'
He nodded, "Perhaps... but Steelhaven has historically not been a War Chantry. Our need for such measures is a more recent one... but you are right. The cells will be the least difficult, but the proper briefing room, well... the Deacons' meeting room wouldn't be good; too small. Might be possible to merge two unused and adjacent apartments into a proper war room with a podium for briefings, though... or Master Sharaya might be able to concoct some more modern digital solutions, so we could use the common room."

Nicole wrote:''Well, I just thought if there's enough space within, part can be used as a combat training facility. None of us are used to working with each other, and it shows. Others might want to use it too...' locating an ashtray from the coffee-table.
He pondered, "Hand-to-hand training, not a problem. But urban warfare training, no... too risky. The walls have eyes, ears, and pretty hungry maws."

Nicole wrote:'No, I wasn't.
He nodded, "Bit of a bad history, too, as I understand it. I didn't think that hospital would be a good choice, though getting everyone to chip in equally for such a facility would perhaps be a good idea. You're quite right that Steelhaven should not shoulder this burden alone. But we're going to need to do some horse trading to shift the load elsewhere... from your tone, I am guessing perhaps you have some ideas?"

Nicole wrote:'I wasn't on prisoner detail, so not my fault. What do you expect from field bindings?' Nicole replied with a combination nonchalance and defensiveness. He arched an eyebrow, "Methinks the lady doth protest too much... no matter, what is done is done; Miss Mar was not aware of the issue, proving that several people slipped up on this - seeing as there were no serious consequences, I expect the ones who did it, and the guards, will receive a talking-to. Not a particularly stern one, even, but making sure prisoners don't manage to die for stupid reasons in our custody won't hurt our standing."

Richard helped you bind the prisoner again there was no getting around that, at least he was more comfortable now and the Nephandus setteled down in his chair ater his hands had been bound behind his back again and he was fastened to the chair. You got out of the basement and got on witht he day's activities.

(OOC: You probably needed the rest.)

[Nicole's Apartment, 1.00]

Colin's Post:

'More inclined to move the hobby room upstairs and use that.' she replied, perhaps unaware that due to her height, was now resting her ample backside on the kitchen counter. 'And projectors and shit as kinda vital. This place is still stuck in the 19th century. Plus, massively unprepared. You know when I went into the firelighter room, they didn't even have street map of Boston?' making the first suggestion that the Etherite had actually been in the Chantry's library.

Colin's Post:

'Unarmed ain't the problem - live fire and shit is.' Nicole retorted, the pot now starting to boil beside her, much quicker than it normally it would - suggesting the device was a jury-rigged induction hob, to cater to the Etherite's chronic impatience.

'Which is why I asked whether some bits can be strengthened or shielded or something. Training ranges are pretty hard to come by, would be an asset to allow others to use... for a fee, of course. Unless you want to personally pay that thing's food bill solo?'

Colin's Post:

'Yeah, they did human experiments in it back in the day, I remember. Plus, the general vibes that come off such places make it fucking impossible to re-use. Same with prisons...' pushing herself off the counter with her legs alone, turning around and pulling a plain bag of coffee off it which was devoid of identifying features save it's contents label.

'And I'm sure there already is a chantry or whatever with that capabilities, like. Just let your fingers do the walking...' giving a little smirk as she suggested such a thing would be publicly listed as she opened up the packet and ladled in a couple of scoops of ground coffee into the boiling water after waiting for a moment as it hit the boil. 'You asked Serge's lot about that?' quickly turning the item off and shoving a mis-matched lid over the top of it.

'Anyway, point being, this ain't our problem. It's the Rats. Yes, I know they don't give a fuck normally but this is not normal.' abandoning the bag for a plastic tub of protein shake and starting to root within.

Colin's Post:

'No, more refusing to carry a can which ain't mine.' pulling out a couple of brown sugar sachets clearly pinched from some resturant, tearing them open and pouring them into the brewing coffee. 'Mar was the ranking bod at the time, they should have either delegated to folks they trusted to do it right or supervised it if they were unsure.' rooting around on the somewhat cluttered side and locating a jar of instant chicory drink. 'I was in the field, in the middle of a mission. Goal was simple; to secure the prisoner securely as quick as possible so I could continue. I refuse to be made responsible for CBE issues without the power to get it done right.' adding a couple of generous spoons of the jar to the bubbling pot.

[Can't remember if there's a more senior Estatic in the Chantry.]

Colin nodded, "Well, that'd be one solution... and the place is more stuck in the mid-20th century... say, early Cold War-era. As for the library, I'm not surprised; we don't have a budget for it, pretty much everything is made up of donations from past and present residents of the Chantry. I won't deny that the ostrich policy has had... mixed results at best, though it has largely kept us out of harm's way before now. It's only in the past few months someone decided we were an obstruction to their ambitions."

He shrugged, "I didn't say unarmed. Master Nassa is highly skilled with a knife, and Chief Morgan is good with the sword. A fairly straight, if short, shooting range, certainly, but I don't know if there's anywhere we can fit a sufficiently shielded urban tactics course."
He pondered, "I suppose Master Sharaya, perhaps in conjunction with you and Serge, could create some sort of holodeck experience - simulated hostiles, weapons, and pain..."

Nicole wrote:'Yeah, they did human experiments in it back in the day, I remember. Plus, the general vibes that come off such places make it fucking impossible to re-use. He arched an eyebrow, "I suppose we could ask Dr. Boudavich to help distribute the patients, as well as Dr. Wong, for that matter... the rats... ah, the Ratkin are reluctant to care for their own kinfolk, that's what goes against your grain?"

He nodded, "Well, several mistakes were made in prisoner handling last night, I very much doubt any two of which can be traced back to the same point of failure. We'll all have to review routines and protocols, I suspect... also, Miss Mar is not in our normal chain of command; she can't be expected to have full overview of everyone's abilities and shortcomings instantaneously..."

Morrigan listened to Nicole and nodded along. It was a good briefing. The Etherite had clearly done this before. The resemblance of all this to a Michael Bay movie continued apace. But she (Morrigan) was ready for whatever came next.

She helped with whatever was required to pack up the truck and then took her seat.

"Good to go," she said. That was what they said in the movies, wasn't it?

Nicole wrote:'Can you do that afterwards? Until the place is properly cleaned up like, we don't want anyone going in.' Nicole replied, straightening up and looking thoughtful for a moment, while Serge looked into the pristine interior of the Colorado, devoid of items save what appeared to be a plastic cover over the driver's seat. Spotted what appeared to be a pair of folding seats in the rear of the vehicle.

"Yeah I can do it whenever and make it last a pretty long time. Just need a good look at the building. Make sure to take the scenic route all right?" Serge said, now attempting to open up the folding seats in the back.

Nicole wrote:'And normally it would be. But most of the Fernald was boarded-up decades ago. We're just needing to make good any holes the Fallen did.' the large woman replied, making a check to see the load was secure.

"Ooooh it's a spooky abandoned hospital?" Serge said sounding a little excited, choosing to interpret the Etherite's words in a much more dramatic light. "The creepy abandoned medical facility has the perfect vibes for a people ward!"

Morrigan wrote:Morrigan listened to Nicole and nodded along. It was a good briefing. The Etherite had clearly done this before. The resemblance of all this to a Michael Bay movie continued apace. But she (Morrigan) was ready for whatever came next.

"I'm ready to go as well." Serge said, taking his own seat in the car. He pulled out his small notepad from his pocket and began to doodle idly within it, trying to guess what the hospital looked like before he actually got a good view of it.

You both got into Nicole's car and was ready to go. The basement was calm, no one was at their cars other than your group but you saw one man, Devon Miles had walked over to the little workshop in one corner of the parking area to work on something he gave Nicole and the two younger mages a look but did not waddle over he was focused on his own work.

(OOC: Not a problem I think we have all had a slow weekend.)

[Steelhaven, 6.45]

Serge's Post:

'Unfortunately, also magnet for kids having adventures, urb-ex'ers bored over Thanksgiving, teens looking for a place to drink and burn and the homeless wanting shelter from the weather.' pulling out a set of keys from a pocket and unlocking the truck. 'Clearly, don't want John and Jane to pocket a severed hand for show-and-tell...' grabbing her coat and moving over to the driver's side.

Serge's Post:

'Well, we'll be doing a circuit of the exterior anyway; need to check for points of entry. Plus, this is 2015 and the Fernald ain't secret. Just Google it.' opening the driver's door and getting in. On opening the passenger door, Serge will be hit with the "new car smell", possibly reminding him that he'd not yet been in this vehicle.

Morrigan's Post:

The cab was pristine; some of the fascia still had the plastic explanatory stickers and protective covering on it. The large woman shoved her coat on the seat behind her, safe in the knowledge that Serge wouldn't be sitting in it due to the lack of leg-space. As Nicole fired up the engine, a few bars of what Morrigan would clearly recognise as Queens Of The Stone Age "Go With the Flow" before the gloved hand quickly flicked it off. With a bit of caution which did not seem to come natural to to her, the Etherite pulled out of the garage into deep-blue pre-dawn of Boston...

[Did not waddle? Didn't think Miles was really fat or anything... *smirks*]

[Boston, 6.45]

Lazily, Nicole guided the truck with one hand while fiddling with a pocket with the other, fishing out a packet of cigarettes then a old-fashioned lighter. 'So, what do you need to know?' she stated, rolling down the window a bit and blowing a jet of smoke out of it.

[Nicole's Apartment, 1.00]

Colin's Post:

'Nah, pre-war - no microfiche or OHPs.' she replied, cigarette in mouth while quickly re-sealing the chickory jar and stirring the concotion with the spoon. 'But this place is punching way below it's weight 'cos it's being run by a bunch of ivory tower Hermetics who have fuck all skill in doing it right. Always bitching about lack of funds but not thinking of ways to solve it.' opening the refrigerator's door and yanking out a gallon-bottle of milk, allowing Colin to see that there seemed to be a can of paint inside the appliance.

'Imagine how your shop would fare without your what's-her-name. This place needs to employ a proper manager to organise shit.'

Colin's Post:

'Same difference. Mundies not gonna call cops for guy waving sword about, as long as not standing in the main plaza at Logan. They will if there's what sounds like a firefight with extra fireballs.' using her rear to close the refrigerator and clearing some space on the bit of counter the Etherite raised by some ~15cm - the fact she'd also removed the cupboard above it suggesting she'd had to do it to allow her to use the counter without chronic stooping or crouching.

'And VRs like that already exist. And are for sale on places like Horizon. Which then flows back to the "not enough funds" shit again.' plonking down the milk down on the counter and looking around for a cup.

Colin's Post:

Here, the Etherite gave the Ophan a stupid look. 'Missing my point again. Estatics are all about the "get out of your head" shit, right? You don't think they've got folks skilled on retrieving folks who can't get back in?' turning back on her task, the pot-lid continuing to slightly rattle in the background as she located a large cup, the kind which was verging on a small bowl.

'As for the Rats... reluctant? Try "don't give a fuck".' a little hiss as she flicked some ash in the sink before pouring a generous portion of milk into the mug. 'Said as much when I was trying to scrounge up some more bodies for the attack; put out the call, got one. In a city the size of this. You saw similar with the diner operation being run out of the junkyard.' tone firm, eying up the milk level before putting the bottle back in the refrigerator. 'But the difference here is that them folk had what was done to them because of being Kinfolk. And except one, all were Rats. And them ones which we managed to save.' for obvious reasons, the woman taking this more personally than others would.

Colin's Post:

'Then they should have checked personally.' in the clear tones of one operating on the "well I would so everyone else should" viewpoint.

You pulled out of Steelhaven's parking lot and was on the road the air was clair and crist and the sky had had early morning blue, it had rained during the ngith but it was clear now. The roads was quaickly filling up though with those who was getting to their work early though it was not as bad as it would be closer to 8.

(OOC: Milies is not fat, he is tired, just gotten up and is just mousing around the workshop to get some things ready and then you can waddle even if you are not fat.)

'Clearly, don't want John and Jane to pocket a severed hand for show-and-tell...' grabbing her coat and moving over to the driver's side.

"That'd make for an interesting show and tell though." Serge quipped. "Don't worry though. The ward'll keep them all out. So that us main characters can have the scene all to ourselves."

Nicole wrote:'Well, we'll be doing a circuit of the exterior anyway; need to check for points of entry. Plus, this is 2015 and the Fernald ain't secret. Just Google it.' opening the driver's door and getting in. On opening the passenger door, Serge will be hit with the "new car smell", possibly reminding him that he'd not yet been in this vehicle.

"Hey. There's a difference between a random still image and seeing a place in person. Feeling the atmosphere and all that." Serge said as he pulled himself into the rear passenger seats.

When he was seated comfortably in the car, he pulled out his phone and googled images of the Hospital to use as reference.

[Boston, 6.45]

Nicole wrote:Lazily, Nicole guided the truck with one hand while fiddling with a pocket with the other, fishing out a packet of cigarettes then a old-fashioned lighter. 'So, what do you need to know?' she stated, rolling down the window a bit and blowing a jet of smoke out of it.

As the car pulled out of the chantry, Serge looked out the car windows to catch a glimpse at the passing outside world. Truthfully it hadn't been to long since he'd been outside of the chantry, though it felt like ages. Now that he was outside of the chantry's protection, doubt started to flood his mind on whether it was in his best interest to be on this mission.

He shook his head on focused on his drawings, trying to distract himself from the negative thoughts as they drove to their destination.

Nicole wrote:'Nah, pre-war - no microfiche or OHPs.' she replied, cigarette in mouth while quickly re-sealing the chickory jar and stirring the concotion with the spoon. 'But this place is punching way below it's weight 'cos it's being run by a bunch of ivory tower Hermetics who have fuck all skill in doing it right. 'Imagine how your shop would fare without your what's-her-name. This place needs to employ a proper manager to organise shit.'
Colin shrugged, "Well, I'm fairly certain Master Sharaya will advocate strongly for making digital copies of our library... perhaps get some cheap tablets for reading with the whole library installed. It's going to take some labour to get such a project done, of course, but I expect he'll make that a peacetime priority."
He smiled wryly, "As for Agnes, you might have a somewhat higher notion of her role in the shop than her actual position. The shop would have gone on quite well without her, though I will admit having a pretty face to greet customers is something of a boon for attracting new clientele. Couldn't have her get too familiar with the esoteric side of the business, though; Protect the Sleepers, after all."

Nicole wrote:'Same difference.

He nodded, "And I will not wish to have explosions going on in the Labyrinth. I'm responsible for the big lug, and I'm not going to let him get hurt, even by accident, if I can avoid it. Though, hmm..."
He paused, "Steelhaven's shadow is a mighty keep, with a spacious courtyard. It might be possible to arrange something in the Umbra; we should confer with the Chief about that."

Nicole wrote:Here, the Etherite gave the Ophan a stupid look.
An old shadow crossed Colin's face, "It was Master Steelhaven who helped me... get out of the corner of my mind I was trapped in, as it were. But yes, Dr. Boudavich is the city's expert on the matter, I believe, and I think Serge will eventually follow in her footsteps in a magnificent way. We should confer with her."

Nicole wrote:'As for the Rats... reluctant? Try "don't give a fuck".' a little hiss as she flicked some ash in the sink before pouring a generous portion of milk into the mug. 'But the difference here is that them folk had what was done to them because of being Kinfolk. And except one, all were Rats. And them ones which we managed to save.' for obvious reasons, the woman taking this more personally than others would.
He pondered, "Ratkin will be Ratkin, I suppose... plaguebearers who put personal survival over communal survival, as I understand it. Getting them to care for their kinfolk... just might be a battle you can't win. Not directly, at any rate. Not unless, hmm... if you know which spirit is their tribal totem, you might try making a deal with that one - though I don't know what sort of bargaining chip you'd need for that. It would be risky, to say the least."

Nicole wrote:'Then they should have checked personally.' in the clear tones of one operating on the "well I would so everyone else should" viewpoint.
He shrugged, "Yes, I suppose she should - but it seems we all slipped up here. We all need to take note and make sure we don't make the same mistake again. The person who gagged the imposter, the person who taped Kallan's fingers, the Chief's substitute who didn't check personally, the guards who neglected to check the bindings and prisoners' conditions, and the interrogators who spoke with them at various times... we all slipped when we shouldn't, and though no lasting damage was done this time, we might not be so lucky next time..."
He sighed, "The only reason I brought it up with you was that you fit the description of the one who gagged the infiltrator, to see if you claimed that one. There'll probably be a brief lecture from the Chief later, for all of us... looks like you might escape the personal touch in that one, then."
