"You will find a way to make the right call my friend." Adjan assured the Hermetic."After all you are Jeffry Morgan's favored apprentice, there is a reason for the old man's appreciation and trust in you, I have watched you at times Adley you have a good heart, when the time comes, if it comes, to make such a choice, you will make the right one."

He hoped he would. But he wasn't always as wise as he needed or wanted to be, when he needed to be. He'd just have to cross the bridges when they got there. Or build one of his own. Do better than before. "Thank you."

"For now, we're rescuing the poor girl. Gentlemen, prepare what you need before we step outside?

Adley was already pulling the seatbelt off and digging out what he needed out to check the area out for spirits. Easier to do it here than inside. The car filled with the sound of his voice again, as he focused his mind on the tasks at hand as best he could.

Colin frowned, "Hum, I see traces of three ongoing effects... Hazarding a guess, I just informed miss Jerkins that someone is using magic in the immediate vicinity of her apartment. Can't see anything else active here and now; might be something hairier once we get inside the building..."

"Damnatus, let's hope it's just her that we alerted but in case, we should try to make speed. I'm ready," he said, double checking his weapons as he waited to exit the car with the others. "Do you need to pick them apart?" he asked.

He hoped he would. But he wasn't always as wise as he needed or wanted to be, when he needed to be. He'd just have to cross the bridges when they got there. Or build one of his own. Do better than before. "Thank you."

Adjan nodded he wanted to say something reassure the Hermetic but he did not know what to say so he focus himself with getting ready to enter the apartment instead.

Adley was already pulling the seatbelt off and digging out what he needed out to check the area out for spirits. Easier to do it here than inside. The car filled with the sound of his voice again, as he focused his mind on the tasks at hand as best he could.

There are spirits there, but none are out of place, something that felt sorrowful and lost, like a toy left behind when the child that loved it grew up was lingering around the hairdresser's shop or what was left of it, a ghost perhaps, the leftovers after the soul and the Avatar of a dead person had moved on, emotion, need and regret left to form en entity. The street had a spirit off course, and there where little gafflings in the street lamps, a decay spirit was slowly consuming the building as it rotted and groaned after years of neglect, these entities ignored Adley though and they where what one expect to see around an old building like this.

"Damnatus, let's hope it's just her that we alerted but in case, we should try to make speed. I'm ready," he said, double checking his weapons as he waited to exit the car with the others. "Do you need to pick them apart?" he asked.

"I doubt there will be much point Adley, I mean whatever such a sensory ward go off or gets taken down, it will likely be felt by the one who made them, but yes I agree, let us get the girl, have a quick look around and then move to another location."
The Eutnanatos said.
"I am ready as well."

As you walk up to the building you see nothing out of the ordinary, a thin, gray cat sat on the stairs that let up to the door to the second floor, the animal eyes the group of mages for a while before it continued with the important task of washing it's fur, the door up to the apartments where unlocked, and inside where a dark corridor and staircase, there where no lights on, there where paint peeling of the floor and a strong scent of urin.
"Lovely place, dank stagnation and decay..."
Adjan muttered and it was unclear from his facial expression if he meant it or if he was being sarcastic.

(OOC: Well really all the characters in this game, including the Nephandi sort of deserve a drink after all I have been putting them through. Razz)

Tane said, although a little sad to know they have learned little.

"It seam to be some nice people in this place yes."
Lily agreed then she nodded.
"I think you are right though, most people get into politics to do what they think is good, and then they might get corrupted from that but all in all they want to do good."
She said. Henrietta smiles a little to the young girl as she sits down and sips her tea.
"I do not know, I have a feeling most who want to do good care little about politics in itself, they just sort of get roped into it."
She said then she sigh and put her tea cup down.
"However in this society, if you want to change the bad things, the best way to do that is to play politics, or at least know how they work, the Traditions are far more static than my magic, and it is kept that way by old as shit politicians, if that is ever to change they have to be beaten at their own game."
The Hollow One hedge witch mushed.
"I personally though prefer to just live my life and stay out of the way of those who are to ambitious, I have better things to do than to get caught up in all the drama."
She said.

Saturday:

I'd like to learn to heal minds. After all, body, mind and soul are like the branch, the petals and the center of a flower: it can't blossom if any of the parts is injured.

"True but one have to be careful Mr Karyak, for if one just take away pain from a mind as one would a body then often one do more harm than good and just make the mind suppress what it is trying to express with that pain, leading to bigger problems down the road."
Cita cautioned.
"I often find that healing a mind is better done with conversation and understanding than magick."

But there's much to learn... and little time. Mercere specialist will be our best shot as of now, with the help, love and contention of her friends, too. But for now, she's too tired to talk or be awaken too much time, so i think a psichiatrist is not an option for the time being.

"Right now no, the pain she is in takes to much out of her, leaving her with little energy and unable to stay awake for long, but as she gets better someone who know how to treat her traumas might be wise. We would have to talk it over with Master Nassa and her Cabal of course, they are her next of kin...though as I understand it, you have just joined her cabal is not that right Mr Karyak?"
The spirit healer asked.

Colin nodded, "I expect anything unpleasant would probably be off the city street itself - who knows how well the Union sweeps the area for such things."
He scratched his chin, "The wards I see seem to be completely harmless... All things considered, I think we had better leave well enough alone. They don't appear to trigger anything else, but any attempt to dismantle them might have unpleasant consequences. I can look past them for more dangerous things; probably better that way."
He carefully stepped up toward the door, and knelt down a few steps away from the cat - just close enough to not spook it, "Hello, kitty, are you all alone out here?"
He glanced back at the others, "Does this cat look mundane?"

"You are probably right, the effects of whatever Miss Jerkins have put on her apartment to guard it will probably not be out here Mr Wainwright however often a powerful effect, or a powerful Umbrood can be sensed at some distance but yes, we will not know for sure how safe the apartment is to enter before we get there."
Adjan said as he walked.
"Well that is the danger with warding one's home the Technocracy or other hostile mages and other Awakened might detect it, however unless she have a way to hide her magick, it will be hard to hide those Resonances and traces completely so even out here we will get a decent indication...probably."

"The wards I see seem to be completely harmless... All things considered, I think we had better leave well enough alone. They don't appear to trigger anything else, but any attempt to dismantle them might have unpleasant consequences. I can look past them for more dangerous things; probably better that way."

"Agreed."
The Euthanatos said simply.

He carefully stepped up toward the door, and knelt down a few steps away from the cat - just close enough to not spook it, "Hello, kitty, are you all alone out here?"
He glanced back at the others, "Does this cat look mundane?"

The cat looked at Colin with alert, yellow eyes, then after glaring at him for a while it came over to him, rubbing it's fuzzy head against his leg and purring, the animal was clearly quite friendly. Adjan picked up his dice from his pocket again and rolled them in his hand, which made the cat glance up at the click, click, click sound they made, wondering if the bone dice might be fun to chase.
"The animal looks rather mundane to me, he is probably someone's pet given how friendly he is."
The Euthanatos said as he glanced at the cat with eyes about exactly the same shade of gray as the animal's fur.

"Good," he agreed.

He got out of the car, closing the door and looking around the place. It didn't seem to impress him very much but appeared unexpected either.

"Lovely place, dank stagnation and decay..."Adjan muttered and it was unclear from his facial expression if he meant it or if he was being sarcastic.

He raised an eyebrow at him. "Something you'd see on the cover of Haunts and Graveyards magazine..."

"Alright, shall we go?" he said, satisfied that -sometimes- a cat was just a cat.

He raised an eyebrow at him. "Something you'd see on the cover of Haunts and Graveyards magazine..."

"Yeah though often magazines like that shows only visual decay in this part of town you can just feel it, this place is going nowhere but down."
The Euthanatos muttered halfway to himself.

"Alright, shall we go?" he said, satisfied that -sometimes- a cat was just a cat.

Adjan nodded and headed into the building and walked up the stairs, on the second floor there where a short corridor with two doors, he stopped before on of them and fished the keys out of his coat, the hallway lay in silence.
"You should probably get your sensory rotes ready Mr Wainwright."
He said before he opened the door and creaked it open to reveal the same small entrance area that had been seen on Freddy's scrying rote displayed on her phone's screen.
"I suggest we go straight for the bath and get the girl out of her chains, then look around, once we have her then it is far easier to get out quickly if we have to have a bit of a tactical retreat."
The death magus suggested. The apartment beyond lay in semi darkness only illuminated by the dying sunlight and street lights from the windows.

Colin nodded, taking a few moments to gently pet the cat, "So you're just a normal, sweet little kitty, aren't you? Yeah, you're a sweetie..."
He slowly rose again so as to not scare the cat, "Hm, a normal cat, but I don't know, the poor dear does look a little on the lean side... Do you think that's a side effect of the, hm, neighbourhood?"
He tapped the monocle in his eye socket, "And my sensory rote is already up... if I may?"
He stepped up next to Adjan and examined the door carefully, looking for any traces of a trap on the door itself.

The cat purred louder the more you pet it rubbing it's head against your hand enthusiastically, someone wanting to pet him, the greatest thing ever, at least in this little furball's mind.
"Hum..it is pretty thin, it can be that it is not fed enough if it's owner is poor, it looks healthy and trusting though so I doubt it is mistreated or affected by anything other than poverty but yes it could stand to get a bit more meat on it's bones."
Adjan said as he glanced at the cat.
"It is not much we can do about it though."

Then Colin ready his focus Adjan moves out of the way.
"By all means Mr Wainwright."
He said and gave the Orphan enough room to get a good look into the apartment, though he was clearly ready to act if anything seaming like a threat should show itself.

You do not see anything other than what you saw outside, though you see some details, you are pretty sure that what you see are meant as a warning system for Jerkins if someone where to get into her apartment, the rotes where simple, but then again simple where far less likely to fail on you, not that the rotes would do her much good now that she was tied to a bed in a Traditionalist Chantry.

Colin nodded, "If I'd had some beef jerky or something, I might have been able to give the little fuzzball a treat, but no such luck... Hm, perhaps I should start carrying a pack with me, for encounters like this."

He carefully examined the door and the frame, and whispered, "Nope... Better safe than sorry, but I find nothing more than the alarms I'd already noticed. Seems like the place is as safe as a Fallen's residence can be. Any items you know about inside that can be of interest? Anything else than the guest inside?"

Colin and Adley:

Colin nodded, "If I'd had some beef jerky or something, I might have been able to give the little fuzzball a treat, but no such luck... Hm, perhaps I should start carrying a pack with me, for encounters like this."

"Well it never hurts to be kind to animals, they have an innocence about them that human beings lack."
Adjan said with a bit of a soft smile.

"I did not see that much of Miss Adlebloom's scrying ehm...recording Mr Wainwright so I do not know what else is in there"
Adjan said.
"But hopefully we can get some more information in here, the main focus should be the prisoner though, both for humanitarian reasons and for what she might be able to tell us about what the Nephandi are doing here."

He nodded to Adjan. "Very well." Then while the two of them concerned themselves with the door, Adley kept an eye out for them and for any spirits that might be lurking.

There where nothing out of the ordinary and no spirits watching as the two other magi examined the door.

Whispering wasn't really his forte. He looked at Adjan but then wasn't sure if he'd seen the syringe or just the prisoner in the bath. "On the kitchen counter."

Adjan did not seam like I knew what the Hermetic was talking about but he nodded.
"Very well then, I will have a look on the kitchen counter you will go for the bathroom, do that sound agreeable to you?"
He asked and as soon as Colin said it was safe he carefully stepped into the apartment.

Tane:

Friday:

In any case, they are as part of our world as anything. Politics, as all other spaces of our life, need change, and renewal. Just like the soil, or the tides, politics needs new blood so the old enmities can't get in the middle. And i'm sure something wil be done, even if we ourselves try not to get involved.

Lily nodded at that and Henrietta sigh.
"The problem with our society is that our main politicians are all hundreds of years old, so their ideas, morality and concepts tend to be rather outdated."
She grumbled.
"We need some younger mages in charge, sure power and wisdom comes with age but even so, sometimes having a leader not older than this nation might be a boon."

Saturday:

Yeah, but i've not met all the cabal. I fear they might think i'm a little reckless and have rage fits, for Bae asked them not to warn me about what was happening. It might be better if Amadeus talks to them.

"It might be..."
Cita said then she gave a hint of a smile.
"And what would you have done if you had been called when Beatrice was about to be...well you know? I doubt she feared anger fits but more that you would do something to get yourself hurt or placed in harms way."

Also, How do you know one of those avatar shards is ready to take off on it's own?

"Avatar shard? Oh you mean one of those companions...I do not know, I have never seen it happen it is just a theory that they are young Avatars that travel with another of their kind until they are ready to take a host on their own, but I would suspect that one that are ready to take a host would start looking for one."

Colin smiled, "They do, and I like them back. What's more, I tend to trust their judgment - if they behave oddly, something's going on. I think it was Sun Tzu who said that if you hear no birds in the forest, there are enemies nearby, and if they suddenly take off, it's an ambush... Can't be entirely certain of that one, but the idea has some merit."

He nodded, "Something on the kitchen counter, right... Adley, which one of us goes for the captive, and who checks for other information?"

"That is true and animals have many instincts that human beings have forgotten Mr Wainwright so you are probably right, if animals shy away from someone, that is a person you might want to stay away from, it often happens for example if a mage get to much violent Resonance, or Jhor."
Adjan said and you noticed that the Euthanatos stayed well away from the little gray cat.

"Hum...you are right Mr Wainwright we might not all want to go for the girl at once...that is a waste of resources and might spook her."
He said then he glanced at Adley and waited for him to decide who did what, even if the Euthanatos was of much higher rank than the young Hermetic it seamed like Chief Morgan's prized apprentice had ended up the leader of the mission anyway.

Colin nodded, "That goes for sleepers, as well - not everyone animals are wary of have resonance like that, they've just got an attitude the animals can pick up on a little easier than we do."

"I agree, my father used to say that animals know who mean them well and who mean them harm, now while this might not always hold true they certainly do seam to often be good judges of character."
Adjan agreed.

He paused before stepping inside the apartment, "Was there a handcuff key on the key ring, by the way? Or does it seem likely the key is somewhere in the apartment?"

"No, it was only a house key and a set of car keys, nothing else so the key for the girl's chains have to be in here somewhere, we have to find it, either that or we will have to break her loose."

He nodded, "Something on the kitchen counter, right... Adley, which one of us goes for the captive, and who checks for other information?"

"Yes, a syringe. I believe some type of sedative like we've seen, could have been something else however." Then Adjan was looking at him and he suggested, "Perhaps you and the doctor can see to the girl at first, and we can back you up then check around?"

There was always something, he thought as they talked about getting the girl out of the chains. This time it was bolt cutters...well, they'd find something.

"Yes, a syringe. I believe some type of sedative like we've seen, could have been something else however." Then Adjan was looking at him and he suggested, "Perhaps you and the doctor can see to the girl at first, and we can back you up then check around?"

"Good idea..."
Adjan said before he hurried into the apartment, he walked quickly and with purpose waiting only for Dr Lee to keep up with him, the Euthanatos kept his eyes alert though and they darted around as he walked. Finding the bathroom was not hard, there where not that many doors in the small apartment. Inside the bathroom there where darkness, but when Adjan cautiously flipped the light switch a small, surprisingly normal looking tiled bathroom was revealed, and there, on the floor with one bloody ankle, where the metal of her restraint had worn her flesh raw, chained to the wall with a think, wrought iron chain sat the young woman the Euthanatos had seen on Freddy's screen. The girl was around thirty, give or take a few years, her hair was a shade of so dark brown it looked black in most lighting conditions and worn in short curls, her eyes was large, oval and a shade of very dark blue, her coppery skin tone, pronounced nose and high cheek bones indicated she might be of Arabic ancestry. The girl wore a blue dress that was pretty dirty and crumpled and she saw in a corner, jammed in between a wooden shelf filed with towels, she had probably heard the group of mages entering the apartment and decided to do her best to hide, her eyes was red and puffy from crying and she looked scared out of her wits at the two mages that entered her prison.

Outside the bathroom Colin and Adley will be hearing Adjan trying to calm the girl down.
"Miss please do not be afraid I am not here to harm you and my friend here is a doctor."
He said softly.
"The woman who have been keeping you prisoner is dealt with, she will not harm you anymore, now we are taking you out of here but you have to come out of there Miss..."
The Euthanatos tried but it did not seam like he was getting much response, the girl just pressed herself further into the corner she was hiding in.

Colin nodded to Adley, "Right, Adjan checks the bathroom - probably best if she's not met with Frankenstein's Creature first, all things considered... I'll start with the kitchen, you take the living room."
He strode into the apartment and carefully started searching the kitchen, taking note of everything, pocketing anything that looked like medicinal bottles while being careful to stay clear of any syringes, and carefully looked through the kitchen drawers for a key, lifting any cutlery trays and the like, scanning all the while.

"Despite what you look like Mr Wainwright, it is not just animals that seam to take a liking to you however with your skills in seeing magick, your talents might be better spent on searching duty."
Adjan said as he walked towards the bathroom.

You move down a small corridor, the apartment is in darkness though the light switch is easy to find. There is little to see in the entrance area, a few letters on a dresser, one seaming to be the bill for the rent, the other, also a bill from the power company, other than that there where some coats in a closet and shoes on the floor. You open one door that lead to a neat bedroom the next door you open show a tired and worn kitchen, there are pale yellow tiles over the sink and stove, tiles that have not been changed in decades, the curtains where white. In the sink there was a bowl that witnessed that Jerkins had eaten porridge for her breakfast. On the kitchen counter though there stood a small vial, half filled with a green tinted clear liquid, the bottle was not marked but you could see that there was something magickal about it and the stuff looked quite similar to the shot of magick inhibiting serum you had seen Adley give Raymond this morning. Beside the bottle there where a used syringe, the needle looked bloody and blunt as if it had been used a few times with little care for the one it was used one's health or comfort.

You do not find any keys as you rummage around the Nephandus' cutlery, pots and pans, she seamed to enjoy cooking Miss Jerkins did from how much was here and from the content of her fridge, she had been planning on a beef casserole tonight. You find a notice that she have a dentist appointment coming up other than that it is just a kitchen, and other than the strange potion and the syringe, it could have belonged to anyone.

Friday:

But for that, youngsters would have to go inside the politics, and most, like you, don't like the idea. Agan, we should not spect better of others than we spect of our selves.

Saturday:

I would have summoned all the great spirits i know to aid me and would have gained some time for amadeus and bae to flee to Cerberus. Amadeus could have done it, but he would never have accomplished it without help. If the whole cabal, me and Coawa would have worked together, i'm sure we could have gain some time. I know i can't do anything to stop a master of the art, but i could have delayed them.
Or maybe i could have shown them the little pieces of Bae's avatar that were slowly cleansing and maybe i could have worked their lust for vengance: They might have seen that a way to cleanse witterslaints is a great victory to cut short the creation of the nephandi, maybe even a chance to strike back.
Maybe death would have been a softer punishment. I don't really know, but i'm not powerful enough to go back in time.

"Avatar shard? Oh you mean one of those companions...I do not know, I have never seen it happen it is just a theory that they are young Avatars that travel with another of their kind until they are ready to take a host on their own, but I would suspect that one that are ready to take a host would start looking for one."

If it finded a new host of it's own... don't you think it would make it clear to it's current host? How do you think it would be able to move from one host to another?

Colin nodded, "So it would seem, but I find that frightened people tend to look at the exterior first; I don't think the captive here is too... rational and relaxed, under the circumstances. I'll come in in a bit."

He sighed and, serum in his pocket, returned to the living room, "No key, but the little flask looks very much like the inhibitor serum... Can't be completely certain, of course, but it appears to be the same substance. Best have Mr. von Hess take a look to verify, though."
He started looking around for a bowl or similar container for keys and loose change, "So, any luck in finding a key?"

"I know I would not be to relaxed and quite possibly not to rational if I was chained up in a Nephandus' bathroom."
Adjan muttered.
"So yes, you may be right Mr Wainwright."
He said before he looked around, found the bathroom and stepped inside.

He started looking around for a bowl or similar container for keys and loose change, "So, any luck in finding a key?"

You find a bowl full of, in all three dollar in change, a pack of gum, and some various odds and ends on a small shelf in the living room, there are no keys in there though.

(OOC: Do feel free to give me a Perception plus whatever you feel is appropriate roll to search for the keys.)
