"Ummm....will this work?" Serge said pulling out a half-finished protein bar the Dr. Lee had given him and offering it to the rat spirit.

'A layered defence? Hmm...' clearly taking the idea seriously. 'An idea, if there's the space. If we don't have 'em already. But not really needed around just my apartment.' heading back to the kitchen, now with the pen. 'Come, Grasshopper. Time for your cooking lesson.'

"Ok but I'll warn you. I had a dream where I bested Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen so bad it reduced him to tears. So...be careful all right." Serge joked as he stood and headed to the kitchen. "So Chef Bouchard. What're we cooking today?"

'A good sign. Means it didn't go full-epidemic.' she said to the room in general, picking up an opened can from the counter and inspecting the contents. 'But you can't say "mass mechanical defect". Causes folks to lose trust in tech.' giving a little shrug and flicking some cigarette ash into the can.

"Technocracy can handle one or two of those without losing face. And given the scale of the planet, a few mass mechanical errors are bound to happen anyways. If everything ran too smoothly the sleepers would probably get suspicious." Serge replied eyes still glued to the television screen.

"I do not know what a nws blur is...I watch what Alessa tell me to watch."

Serge quickly did as asked, walking over to the freezer and pulling out the bag of beef strips. "That is a story that needs telling. Are all the were-creatures this chummy with each other?" Serge said out loud as he placed the bag next to Nicole.

"Well it depend on how you choose to look at it. Tane saw me be born in an aquarium and th sock of it Awakned him, then he helped me and my mother escape. We are ot brothers by blood but he was born as a mage from seeing my actual birth so I think it is fair to say we are brothers."
He explained as he cotinued to clean up the table and sofa.

Serge cocked his head as he watched the rat spirit eat. He wondered if this was a good enough offering to engage in one of those 'pacts' that spirit mages often had. He decided against testing that theory. Nothing good came from an inexperienced mage trying to forcefully command spirits.

"Hey so I'm curious. Will this also work?" Serge asked pulling out the orange peels from the orange he had eaten earlier. "Not technically food but they still citrus-y. And I've heard the legendary stories of the rat spirits survival capability's."

"Sure thing." Serge said as he did what was asked. He took the beef and measured out the approximate amount constantly fiddling with the amount of beef as if to ensure the exact measruements.

As he worked Nicole would notice the awkwardness in Serge's movement. Always a little unsure of what he was doing. It was clear that this wasn't something he did regularly, or at the very least the Ecstatic was unfamiliar with handling frozen meats.

He placed the rubber lid on the bowl and took it over to the microwave, placing it in and setting it to defrost for 10 minutes. Once done he knelt down and began to watch the beef as it spun around. "Isn't there some kind of rule against putting rubber in the microwave?" he asked as he watched the bowl spin.

Serge had a feeling that continuously giving food to a spirit wasn't the best idea. Serge was also way to easily convinced by simply begging. He tossed the citrus peels over to the rat spirit and happily watched her eat it.

"Being Qyrl tainted doesn't mean your part of the Nephandi. There Traditionalist as much as any other." Serge said, his tone insinuating that that was a statement and not an argument. "And being a captice isn't the same as being a roommate. Though the similarities are astounding."

Perhaps slightly surprisingly, the Etherite's refrigerator was looking pretty on the sparse side; almost none of the "half-eaten X" which could usually be found, or fresh items in general. Found three large peppers, though; rather on the sad side and for some unknown reason beside a tin of paint.

"Man I'm too easily swayed." Serge said rifling through his pockets for more stuff to feed to the rat spirit. He eventually pulled out crumpled bits of paper that had past drawings on them. He stared at the balls of paper for a bit before looking at the rat spirit and saying, "Ok quick question. Would you be satisfied with eating paper? I've drawn stuff on it in case that entices you."

'And what is... "Qyrl"?' she replied, leaning across to take a bottle of something, unaware that it made the Estatic's effort to manoeuvrer around her bulk harder.

"I've just been assuming it means Nephandic taint this whole time." Serge admitted.

"Does paint even need to be refrigerated?" he said with a strange mixture of confusion and curiosity. He brought the peppers over to the countertop where they were working and laid them out. He stared at them peppers for a bit, taking small sideways glances at Nicole as if waiting to be told what to do next but not wanting to ask it out loud.

"I blieve they do things to get the favor of th spirit then ask for something in return. Mastr Morgan do not burn the Chantry down for hi Imps."

"He probably burned something down for them. In fact, does Master Morgan get anything from his Imps? I should probably ask him that."

'I ain't – it's curing plastic. I'm refurbing a weapon and making new furniture. Slow-set makes it stronger.' she replied, relaxing a bit. 'Cube up the peppers; don't worry it being pretty. Oh, and pass the tomato paste; think it's in the upper door bit.'

Serge pulled out a can of tomato paste and handed over to the Etherite. Afterwards he got to work cubing the peppers.

His inexperience was immediately seen as he began to cut up the peppers without taking the core out first. Though, thankfully, he did seem to understand what cubing was, cutting into the pepper with a series of horizontal and vertical slices.

"What kind of furniture are you making? In fact what kind of weapon are you making? Anything fancy?" he said trying to sound confident despite his slow shaky hands holding the knife.

"The three personifications of the three main forces, dynamism, stasis and entropy, the three most powerful Celestines and the ones who knocked the world out of balance."
Coawa said with a shrug.

"Ooooh that's interesting. Those are important concepts in mage lore. The essences of the mage's avatar or something like that. Hermetic scholars probably loved that connection when they found it."

'If people believe the story about the Jaws-shark not being real, they won't look in the ocean and see it.' she continued, now wielding a blade herself, slicing open three packets of noodles and putting them to the side.

'Celestines?' she called out, stubbing out her cigarette, retrieving a greasy-looking wok and giving it a rinse under the hot tap.

'Eh, not much; just a new grip for a pistol. One of them grippy affairs so it's a bit easier to wield.' she replied, grabbing some paper towels which looked like they'd been stolen from some fast food joint and wiping the wok down. 'That reminds me... erm, you forgotten to remove the core?' having just spotted what Serge was doing.

'That reminds me... erm, you forgotten to remove the core?' having just spotted what Serge was doing.

"...Oh! I thought something felt wrong. Sorry, I don't usually work with peppers." Serge said looking surprised as he realized his mistake. He went to work rectifying his mistake by cutting out the cores of each of the individual cubed pepper pieces. "That seems kinda mundane. Couldn't you use some spicy science to whip up a cooler piece? Like a grip that completely removed recoil or something?"

He went to work rectifying his mistake by cutting out the cores of each of the individual cubed pepper pieces. "That seems kinda mundane. Couldn't you use some spicy science to whip up a cooler piece? Like a grip that completely removed recoil or something?"

"I believe it might feel wrong to have a weapon with no recoil, not that I use a gun much but I suspect it would feel airy and might reduce accuracy."

You all wake up in your apartments on the day of the departure to Horizon, bright and early. There are the regular sounds of activity from the Chantry waking up, but there are also a feeling of trepidation in the air. It is about three hours before the party that are going to Horizon are leaving for the Umbra port.

There are the regular sounds of activity from the Chantry waking up, but there are also a feeling of trepidation in the air. It is about three hours before the party that are going to Horizon are leaving for the Umbra port.

Colin came back inside from his morning run, with a small briefcase containing the silver arrow he was working on, alongside his portable tools and a small selection of plain rings and other handmade items for barter in Concordia, and made his way back to the apartment for a shower and breakfast before packing down the vaccine lecture he'd had since his debate with Rosa a while back, to save a kitten that won't even be born for some time yet...
